If it helps here is a picture of the swing arm on my 2016 - as you can see it has the hole on the top near the drive belt - (I put a bolt in it to keep water from getting inside the swing arm) - and on the side of the swing arm you can see the square reinforced area that you are supposed to drill and tap - - if newer swing arms do not have the these areas built up as they are on mine there is no way in hell I would drill and tap it - - the reinforcement is there for a reason

mine doesn’t have the built up area on top like yours does. I can see a circle but no reinforcements on top.

The built up area on the side is the same though.

Anyway, that’s why I asked. Since I have no idea how thick the metal is there, I think I will figure out another way.

So I bought a used eBay fender from someone on Facebook. It didn’t come with instructions but no big deal, a search on YouTube solved that!

My only problem involves drilling and tapping a hole in the swing arm.

The video I found talks about loosely installing a bolt through the fender bracket into an existing hole in the top of the swing arm and then aligning the bracket with a “boss” on the side and marking that boss for drilling a hole there.

My swing arm has the boss on the side but no hole on top. I have no issues drilling a proper hole in aluminum but I’m wondering if it’s advisable to do so in the top of the swing arm as Polaris did not build up that area. I don’t want to drill a hole in material that is potentially too thin to accept a tap.

I guess the question is, has anyone here installed a fender on a 2019 and had to drill and tap two holes?

Can a seat from a car fit the slingshot? I have two seats from a 2005 Subaru WRX STI that I used to own. What are the chances that they would fit? Any obvious problems that I would have to look out for?

I agree. I had a good time touring the factory and meeting some of the builders outside. I met a few owners and got to see how others have customized their slings.

I hope we get to do it again!

I bought mine (2019) and my dealer said one year also. He was trying to sell me the extended warranty/service agreement. Really couldn’t pin down which it was but they said it would add three years to the factory warranty. Contract language seemed to imply only one year.

Anyway, the owners manual clearly states that the factory warranty for 2019 is 2 years.

    Lol.

Thanks for the replies all. I did, in fact, share to remind others to not rush into anything without considering what could go wrong. That’s the Operational Risk Management (ORM) that the Air Force was trying to drum into my head before I retired. I guess I failed. =O

Anyway, I’ve ordered the Fumoto valve and adapter and will have that handy for next time.

Wish I had the lift that gooseman has!

    Be careful out there folks!

So, last week I reached 500 miles on my SS. My dealer is about 65 miles away and I really didn’t want to ride all that way for a simple oil and filter change. I figured I could easily do it myself, I AM an airplane fixer after all. ;)

I did my research and bought the oil and filter and on Tuesday determined that I needed a different jack to raise it up a bit. Mine was too tall.

I bought two rhino ramps at autozone, every store I looked was out of stock on low profile jacks, even Harbor Freight. I had seen a thread where someone said that you could place the ramps behind the front wheels and simply back up on them with no problems.

Well, on Wednesday I tried, didn’t work. The fenders would catch and start to bend.

I saw that you could access it from the side with the hood up, so I tried that.

This is where it all starts to go sideways.

I found that I needed a swivel to get on the drain plug from the side. Sure looks like it would be easier from the bottom I thought.

I didn’t own one so I had to stop and try again on Thursday.

Thursday comes and wouldn’t you know it? Rain. I don’t have a garage so I have to wait for the next day. Bummer.

On Friday, I couldn’t wait to get home and change that oil! I was actually excited and very enthusiastic! (For an oil change? Yep!)

Well, I found the right combination of socket, extensions, swivel, and ratchet. Here we go!

Got it all in there and discovered that that drain plug was very tight! Like way over torqued!

No way to get a cheater bar in there. Just got best grip I could with both hands and applied as much muscle as I could muster. That thing let go with a loud CRACK! I thought that maybe I had broken one of my tools and my hand hurt where it hit the frame. I figured that it might be bruised or something.

The tools were ok, so I started to loosen the drain plug with a socket on an extension. Some of the oil started to leak out and the extension soon became too slippery to turn by hand. I pulled my hand and tools out of there so that I could clean the oil off.

Only, it wasn’t oil, it was blood! Lots of it!

Needless to say, I stopped and tried to stop the bleeding. I was successful, I thought, until I tried to continue.

Here I was, needing to get that cut looked at, but all alone. I couldn’t get the bleeding to stop long enough to get to the ER (9 miles away), my neighbors weren’t home, and my wife was still at work for another hour.

So what did I do? I did what any reasonable guy would do. Wrapped it in paper towel and finished the job!

After I was done, I thought it might be a good idea to wash the wound out with alcohol.

    Nope. Not a good idea.

When my wife got home she was treated to the sight of oil bottles, oily rags, tools, and bloody Bounty paper towels everywhere.

Didn’t take long to get to the ER. I got 9 stitches and a grape lollipop for my troubles.

    The moral of the story...

Wear gloves, protect your hands. ||

    Congrats!

Did you have them install a windshield on it? My 2019 S didn't come with one, but didn't matter, I wanted a taller one, so just curious.

Now, on to mods with you! Come to Maggie Valley and see what everyone else has done to theirs so you can try things out before buying.

Yes, I had them install the windshield. I don’t think I want a taller one. I expect to occasionally take it to work and condensation can be an issue at 05:00!

I don’t think Maggie Valley is doable this year. My wife and I were there last October. We rented a Slingshot for a day and that’s when I knew that I had to have one.

    Update:

I did it! I got my Slingshot. White 2019 S.

I’ve had it 6 days now and even with all the rain I’ve managed to put 300 miles on it.

The dealer had to order it for me as they sold their last S the day before. They delivered it last weekend with one mile on it.

I wasn’t thrilled with how much I had to pay for the tag, but that’s Mississippi for you!

Thanks for all the comments everyone.

I'm 2 hours away from Dallas, and I know we have other members in Dallas, we can get someone to go by there for you and take a look.

Grab some pics for you, look for any problems, etc.

I personally wouldn't buy it site unseen, but you can always get the info and finalize any paperwork with the dealer online, then come down to pick it up, sign paperwork and take it home.

If I could find someone to check it out that would be great.
