That's right! It's time to play "Where is that leak coming from!"

So, I've noticed a couple drops of "red-ish" fluid in my garage. Didn't think much of it, figured just coolant. Nothing more than a drop or two. Nope.

While I had the SS jacked up to replace the brakes, I found this nice puddle. It's dripping off the bottom of the transmission but dang if I can tell where it comes from. Seems to be just aft of the engine/transmission joint. You can see the drops forming on the bottom of the trans in pic #2 below.

I wiped it all up - and then another bigger puddle appeared in the same spot - without moving or starting the SS. I got under there with a flash light and ran my hand around but could not find where the leak is coming from. I noticed the oil pan was really filthy/greasy - guessing from coolant overflow and road dirt, but that doesn't seem to be the source of the leak.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm going to jack up the SS even higher and get under there again tonight but any thoughts where to look would be helpful. The normal spots (drain plug, sensor, etc) all seem good. I'm going to check the rear seal too.

At least you figured it all out and did get them installed, they look great and brakes should feel much better now. I'll send you a PM to see what we can put in the instructions to help keep this from happening to someone else.

    Thanks Dave,

Yeah, the errors were my own fault. Instructions were good - I just acted like a typical guy who thought he knew what he was doing. Mind you, about 1/2 of the actual time was also me pulling the rear caliper to paint and put in the new pads.

Well, brakes are done. Took me a bit longer to do them, because, well . . . . I'm an idiot. Yes, the rotors were perfectly fine - did not replace them. But pretty much everything that could go wrong did - due to my own stupidity.

    Here's before and after:

    Let's see: What did I F' up:

    1. Had to go to 5 different places to find a brake bleeder tool.
    2. Trip #2 to Autozone was for this:
    3. Forgot to put the rear pads back in before bleeding the front brakes and pushing the pedal. The problem here is that I had already used the caliper tool to push the piston back in - and returned the tool back to Autozone during trip #2. So I had to make a 3rd trip to Autozone to re-rent that stupid tool.
    4. Then while bleeding the brakes, I couldn't figure out why I was getting any brake fluid - to realize that I had unscrewed the adapter and not the zerk fitting itself. Took me 15 mins to figure that out.
    5. Oh, and I caught myself before I took the After picture above - I had the pads reversed.

DDM making me spend more money!

You need to take more responsibility for your decisions. DDMWorks is just an enabler.

So what is that with the Bad MFer on it? Yup. Saw that.

    Yeah, I know. But I just can't quit. I think I need a DDMAA.

Yeah thats my wallet. Had it about 10 yrs now.

Separate question: What front brake rotors work on the SS? Presuming a Honda Civic since its their Hawk pads that fit. Current rotors have 23k on them, and they pass the fingernail test. But might want to replace them at the same time.

And yes, @Dave@DDM, I see the ones you have, but thats more than I need.

Love getting boxes from this place. Maybe install next weekend. I'm pooped out from working on other cars all weekend. (Brakes, tie rods, new lug nuts, tire pressures, and fiberglass work.)

And here's what was in the box:

And then a little before and after. Job took me about 2 hours. That's because of the Turbo. I had to remove the turbo and jack up the engine to get the new header in. And then of course I dropped one of the header nuts. $#@$^#&%#@$!!! Dunno where it went - and I looked a while, even climbing under the SS to see if I could track it down. I just so happened to have another of the same nut in my junk drawer! Told the (now-ex) wife that that stuff would come in valuable one day!:

Of course, I didn't finish the whole thing. There's one step on page 2: Step 4: The stock manifold....can be removed from the engine bay and can now be used as a boat anchor.

I don't have a boat. DDM making me spend more money!

I feel your pain, Geico just raised the rates on our 2 Slingshots also, need to check into other places, Jumped to $1713 for both of the Slingshots and our 2016 hasn't even been on the road for well over a year.

    Dave call Dan
    slingshotinfo.com/wcf/index.php?attachment/132717/
My anual full coverage is $325.00 He can write coverage in many states. I do relize that there are lots of things that change cost but what your paying is crazy.

    [/quote]

Dan is who I started with for Allstate. They raised my rates so went to Geico. Then they raised my rates so now had to move to Progressive. Reality is im paying the same now as I was with Allstate before they raised the rates initially, even though my vehicles are paid off and older. I guess they gotta pay for those football stadiums 🏟 some how.

Supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow so I decided to bite the bullet and start the new head unit install. I installed the Boss head unit last winter but wanted to see if this ATOTO unit had higher daytime visibility. Removing all body parts was super simple since I did it before. Took about 1/2 hour. Learning from my last experience I made sure the new head unit fit to my liking. It fit perfectly after a few adjustments. Now onto the wiring. I got the unit temporarily wired. I always do this before making final connections. Got the unit to power up. That's enough for today. Try to finish it up tomorrow but think the camera may be an issue. I'll let you all know how it goes.

While you have the dash off, make yourself a insulation plate between the engine and back of the stereo to keep the heat off it. There are templates here somewhere, but I just used some 1" insulating foam board I had extra and taped in it with muffler/heat tape.

Also put some sort of barrier above the back of the head unit to prevent water from coming in from above. There are a couple holes in the dash that allow water in that can get into the stereo back. I just used a little piece of plexiglass I had laying around and duct taped it in.

No problems for 3 yrs so far.

Well, if y'all don't know, Geico just raised my rates out the roof. Because policies were combined with Auto, Home, and RV, and because those policies were combined with my daughters (3 accidents btwn the 2 of them in 3 yrs), they more than doubled my rates to over $1200/yr just for the SS and over $1000/month for everything combined.

I was able to get the SS on Safeco through another's recommendation for $535/yr. Had to switch the Auto and RV over to Progressive for about the same price I was paying for before Geico raised my rates. Got a little while before the Home renews so will have to look then.

    Yeah, so my thoughts.

I can appreciate the effort and work that went into that. Not my style however.

That rear wheel and swing arm was a monstrosity. If you can get into the video, you can see the rear wheel is just inches from the rear deck. Any compression and that wheel is going to hit the back and tear it up. If they had kept it on the stock swing arm with just a 24" wheel, that would have been much better. Did you see how they put an axle thru the rear sprocket to drive a chain drive on the left side of the wheel instead, like a motorcycle? I would have gone wider, not taller.

So, in my "spare" time, I just put on some car conversion shows for background noise. Last night, I was watching Car Masters: Rust to Riches and they did a slingshot conversion into a 69 Camaro. Not sure of my thoughts on it, especially since they really both verbally and physically trash the original Slingshot body and put this massive 30" wheel and extended swing arm on it. (Just to be clear, I am not trashing them, just not my taste.

Found an article here and if you have NetFlix, the episode is here. (Sorry, couldn't find it on You Tube).
