Am I the only one that thinks the key for the slingshot is ridiculously large? It has no chips or electronics that I know of is there any way to get a key that doesnt have the huge Slingshot logo shape and size?

Rode mine a little hard today ... just slowed down as I passed the young man in brown and watch him turn around....pulled over before he caught up to me...he made a decision to write a seat belt ticket ($25.00 ---- could have argued that but the speed I was doing that was a slow down and have a nice day notice) also
    pays to be polite....

being in California I have wondered, if it is a motorcycle and I have to have a helmet - why must I use the seatbelt, and if I must use the seatbelt why do I need the helmet - - this car/motorcycle thing is really confusing. I am no more likely to fall out and need the helmet than I would be in any jeep without doors. I would wear one on the highway just because its the smart thing to do, but I dont like that I seem to have to use both car mandated seat belts when they say it isnt a car and I also have to have motorcycle mandated helmet when it clearly isnt really a motorcycle - - Big brother irritates the heck out of me

Your first mods should be he DDM short shifter and the brake master cylinder brace

okay - I am new - so please tell me what the master cylinder brace is all about and why it is needed?

Heck, to my my little Slingshot is about the closest thing I could ever get to a street legal gokart, And that is coming from a man who's first car in the 70's was a 1964 Porsche 356 - C. I got the thing used for $2,800 and at the time that was not cheep. Like a young dumb kid I sold it later and got a Toyota. Looking back the dumbest car thing I ever did. As I have grown older the cars that really GRAB me have gotten further and further out of reach financially. Something that really could take the curves and give me that air in your face wow - they all seem to cost as much as houses in some parts of the country - Sure if I really wanted one I could do it, But then I found the Sling, it isnt cheep but it is very affordable and the but low to the ground wind in your face is in my opinion un matched by anything that isnt a racing gokart. I live in Palm Springs California. if there is a rare exotic car that people never see. You will see it here - and Whats really funny is like last week when I pulled up to a light on Palm Canyon next to one of the new ford GT's tha guy driving it was looking at me - - Seriously my little Sling gets checked out by people driving cars that cost twice what my house cost -- and I love it

Dude, you haven't lived until you park beside a Lambo, A Ferrari, and a Jag, and they all get out and come check out your Sling. :BLACKSS:

"Dude" I live in Palm Springs California. Every single day I see some of the rarest and most exotic cars on the local roads - And you are right, I love it when I pull up to a light in my Sling next to a car that cost more than my house and the driver is checking me out. I have seen one other Sling in this area, but I dont think it lives here. As far as I know I am the only permeant resident in the Palm Springs area driving a Slingshot. Its kinda of fun when people wave at you and yell that they have seen you before

yes it is close, and my sister and family live in colorado springs, but we always have to get back to that boss thing where they seem to think you should be at work

I am off June 14 to the 21's is there anything near going on then?

Yup, not a body kit, its a Lotus

    Welcome to ArielAtom.com

Street legal "Formula car", or as close to it as we will ever get, unless you're @Slingshot Garage 8)

Welcome to the family @edwardaneal

*If you hop in your shiny/new sling right now, you'll have enough time to make Maggie Valley... just sayin' :whistling:

for some dang reason my boss thinks I should be at work tomorrow, but at soon to be 63 it wont be long until my wife and will be able to do such things - - cant wait, thats one of the reasons why now was the right time to get my little red "car"

Daily driver? @Ruptured Ducks, MeanSling, top!

    Then... Suspension?

okay, give me more info - what mods can I do that will make a noticeable difference? Yes it is my daily driver, but I love windy mountain roads - HWY 74 and others can put any car to the test - what would you do?

As to tops - I havent decided on that yet - we have only hit 111 here last week and so far I am not sure a top wouldnt cause more problems with reduced air flow when driving than it would fix when stopped - - We will see when its 115 to 117 or higher, that will give me more info to work with

First, just so everyone knows, I live in Palm Springs Ca, I love the heat and we have almost no real rain here compared to other places. One of the things that helped push me over the edge (that means it was an excuse my wife would buy) to buy my Slingshot was that my daughter needed a better car. she really couldn't afford one without help and with three of our grandkids in the picture that ment we would help. Well I suddenly had this amazing idea - genus! I thought. Instead of buying a new car for my daughter I would give her my beautiful Impala that would hold all of the kids and then I would buy my Slingshot

It worked, my wife liked the Idea and my Daughter loved my Impala

So now I drive a slingshot - the Impala is gone - although I could use it if needed, and my wife who works nights can ,when it does rain, let me take her car (normally both cars would be both of ours, but with the Slingshot she doesnt drive stick so now we cant sway so easily.

So anyway after that long intro to the question here it is - If you needed your Slingshot to be your daily driver - which mods would you do? which mods dont hurt reliability? which mods can be done without unusual down time?

Please note I am only talking about performance mods that improve performance, not cosmetic mods

So - tomorrow you are gifted with a brand new SL - - - - seriously, what performance mods would you still do if it was your only car/bike/autocycle/ whatever?

    Thanks

Oh and as a side note I am in California so some mods might not be legal here (if they ever decide to smog check "motorcycles")

Looks like an Ariel Atom with a body kit on it

I am not familiar with the Ariel Atom, but the wheels are very clearly Lotus the lotus Logo is very clear

here is a picture I just found on the web of the Lotus 340r - - sure looks like the same car to me, but then again perhaps someone made a kit

just curious. How did you find this forum? We're you referred by anyone?

Actually I dont recall the exact subject, but I believe I was googling 4 wheel conversions for the slingshot and one of the hits was a thread here. after looking around I was impressed with the knowledge here and especially with some of the extreme mods and conversions some people are doing here.

I figured that if there were people here putting V8's and Honda roadster motors in the Sling there is a good chance they will be able to answer any question I might have

As a side note I joined another forum a week or so ago, but they seem to have a big problem with Chinese spam making it hard to dig through the threads

I had been looking at the Slingshot for a long time, but what pushed me over the top was when my wife and I ran into a group of owners up at Idlewild CA. One guy let me sit in it and at the same time his wife was telling my wife how much she would love it. Not only did that momend cement my desire for one, but it also opened my wife to the idea that she might like it too. As far as I could tell at the time all of the three that were there seemed on the outside to be stock, but I hope to run into that group up there some time in the future so I can thank that guy fo being so kind as to let a stranger into his Sling

My son in law saw this car parked in down town Palm Springs last night and sent me this picture because he thought it looked like my Sling and I must admit it does resemble a Slingshot with a 4 wheel conversion.

Best I can guess is that it is a Lotus 340R, but from what I can find it shouldn't even be street legal in the States - does anyone have any more information on this?

If it is a 340R it has about the same HP as a stock Sling and weighs about 1,500 pounds. only 340 were made and none were imported by Lotus into the States
