I never order a helmet on line because of the problem of getting one to fit correct. When I bought he last half helmet at the bike shop they had 5 different brands and only one that would fit correctly.

I agree it is very hard - some helmets seem more designed for rounder heads and others for oval heads. This last 1/2 helmet, the Daytona skull cap is the first 1/2 helmet I have bought that really seems to be shaped for my head, in the past the 1/2 helmets I have owned fit nicely front to back but were a bit wider than my head - - This is one of the reasons I decided to try the Daytona Novelty. I hoped they would be sized the same, but the novelty was smaller and even if I had decided I really liked I would have returned it and gotten the next size up

Would really love it if I had a local shop with a good selection of helmets, but I do not - - fortunately Amazon Prime allows for free returns so it is not a real problem if I don't care for something

    okay - an update.

I decided to go ahead and order the Daytona Eagle Helmet and give it a try

figured if I really wanted to know what I would think this was the best way - - well the helmet was delivered today and I have already packed it up to return.

Don't get me wrong, it was very well made and except for the lack of the thick styrofoam padding of my DOT Daytona helmet it was very similar - - the lining was the same moisture wicking design and it had the same great buckle in the strap actually except for the lack of a DOT sticker I doubt any LEO would have been able to tell it was a novelty helmet without actually holding it and examining it.

Actually this why I decided to return it - it is so much like the DOT helmet that I just don't see the point

The difference it how it sits on my head and in the weight is just not enough to justify the expense - - - I have a feeling that cheaper novelty helmets might make a bigger difference, but at this point I'l just stick with my DOT helmets

You know Bigdog the best thing about the Pfizer vaccine and the Moderna vaccines is that both of these are the product of the Trump administration and its operation warp speed - - something made possible by the Trumps administrations believe that the Virus that you say the Chinese created needed to be stopped - - - - - Seriously you have to be some kind of anti Trump far left nut job not to support the vaccines that Trump made possible

the virus has a 99.7 survival rate....none of the vaccines have prevention numbers that good....

okay - take the 99.7 odds of surviving and then combine that with a 95% chance you will never even get it that the vaccine gives you and tell me what the combined odds are???

instead of 99.7 to 1 advantage with the vaccine its now what - 87 million to one or more?

I would bet you would buy many more lottery tickets if you had a 1 in 99 chance of winning than you would if it was 1 in 87 million

Thanks @AllIn5450 I have never attempted to leave rubber in my SS. I understand the Autodrive will do it in the first few gears but not with me behind the wheel. BTW I like not having to reach down for the shifter. I have thoughts about putting the paddles on but don't really need them.

BTW my son watched the video and said I needed to get rid of the wind noise. I had the sound off on my PC and didn't know I recorded any audio. He said I need to find a way to just record the engine sound but not sure how to do that as the wind noise is so loud.

I had the same wind noise issue and I found that you can get these foam covers that go over the camera to reduce the wind noise - I got one on Amazon for my GoPro and it makes a huge improvement - search for "wind slayer" and if they dont make one for a garmin I suspect it would be easy to find some foam to fabricate a DIY solution - foam and a rubber band or zip tie

I got my oil and filter in yesterday ready for its second change up but first for me only to realize my Fumoto Valve needs to be installed. But getting ready - that’s the fun part!

did my oil & filter this last Saturday - - absolutely love the Fumoto - - - its a bit slow, but I'm never in a hurry when I do this so I just opened the valve up and then went back inside to read the news and enjoy my coffee and let it drain

One thing I will say that I like about my 2016 is the fact that it has the old school GM Ecotec motor - - - yes, it may not be as new and fancy or high revving as the new Polaris motor, but finding parts and people who know how to work on it is something that is fairly easy and makes dealer visits more of an optional choice.

As a side note- - can someone tell me if the manual transmission used with the new Polaris motor is still a GM product or is that now made by Polaris as well?

I have a bicycle helmet that I use, if I have to look like I have a helmet on. I have never had anyone to check for stickers on a helmet

I suspect that being in a Slingshot a person would probably not be subject to the same level of scrutiny that an officer might use when looking at a person on a two wheeled motorcycle - - even if it is only subconsciously I suspect that when a person looks it just doesn't scream out that its occupants should be wearing helmets - - like it might were you on a Harley

its not all that far to my dealer options. the dealer where I bought my Slingshot is is about 55 miles away and there is another dealer even closer that I may try for service if needed in the future that is about 27 miles away and there is even a third option if needed that is about 43 miles away in Temecula - - having said this I have always avoided going to dealers for service as much as possible - the prices they charge for things I can do myself are way too much in my opinion

so anyway to answer your question I guess under 100 miles would be my answer and that is because that's how far my AAA motorcycle endorsement will tow my slingshot for free if it does need to go to the dealer - - - if my slingshot is running and can reliably go 100 miles then it probably doesn't need to see the dealer I will instead come on this site and with the help of my friends here figure out how to fix it myself

Well mounted to the top of the roll hoop passengers side did away with all the vibration. It does show a lot of the cockpit and my ugly Harley helmet. It does show my cell phone on the dash post that displays the speed. I wanted that to show. Why I don't know but the video looks like I am going much faster then I really am. For me that maybe a advantage.

Hehehe - I can relate - - one of the things I like about the lower mount on the nose is that it gives a false sensation of speed - - it will make it look like I am really screaming through the twisties when in fact I am actually driving leisurely - - - - - - its bound to impress those who do not know better

Thanks @Edward Neal your video is so smooth. I moved my camera to the forward base of the fin and made the same run I posted in the other thread. I had just as much vibration as before maybe more. Maybe I need after market shocks. Oh well not that much to video here any way. I do like your low angle video.

I have also have a mount at the base of the fin - I don't much care for it because of the fact that when driving I can be seen in the video - I really prefer not to have the cockpit and passengers show in the videos its a distraction - - other than the nose I really liked the center mount on the front of the windshield - showed just enough of the slingshot so viewers knew what I was filming from without showing the cockpit or me - like I said though this location went away when I switched to the double bubbles - also with both the windshield location and the mount on the nose I simply used the adhesive backed mounts and such them right on the plastic of the windshield / nose piece - - - I think this direct mounting probably helps reduce vibration you might get with the camera on something like a RAM mount

here is a video I shot with the windshield location

I'm sure they would have a lot more experience picking it out on someone passing by than I would. But I've never heard of someone with a helmet getting questioned while stopped and made to prove if it was dot approved or not either. I know the novelty helmets I was looking at when I first started out in the slingshot sat really really low. That's what attracted me to them but also may be what makes them noticeable passing by. I don't like the mushroom top look of the half shell(among other things but mainly focusing on looks for this conversation). I think what I have now is a skid lid which when I was looking was advertised as the most low profile available and still meet dot standards. Now the motorcycle cops seem to stop me more than anyone so I would think they would naturally pick it out quicker than an officer not accustomed to bikes but again just my assumptions.

I would think the big thing a LEO might spot would be the lack of the DOT sticker on the back of the helmet - - riding on a 2 wheel motorcycle this would be very easy to see by anyone coming up behind you - - - - on the other hand sitting down as we do in the Slingshot this would be almost impossible to spot without really being motivated - - probably much more motivated than the average LEO would be unless you were violating some other laws that attracted the LEO's attention

as I said in my OP for running out to the store or just cruising our little downtown area I really don't think our local police are that focused on helmet violations - - heck almost all of the local motorcycle officers have gotten so accustomed to me that they often wave at me before I can get my hand up to wave at them ( I always wave at LEO's to show my support)

I know here where the debate rages on whether you do or do not have to wear a helmet I have had this exact conversation with the multiple leo's that have pulled me over. After those conversations I would not have a novelty helmet with me at any point. I choose not to wear a helmet here but I do keep one with me incase I'm pulled over and the officer feels differently. I've never been ticketed the multiple times I've been stopped because I'm respectful and we spend more time discussing the slingshot. However during those discussions they told me they have stopped people before with non dot helmets. Each one has told me that an individual would get in a lot more trouble for having a novelty helmet on than no helmet at all. So for that reason I've never even considered getting a novelty helmet. I'd rather just be honest with my stance than to chance getting pulled over and trying to seem like I was trying to get one over on law enforcement.

good point - - I can see where wearing a novelty helmet would be taken as evidence that you knew a helmet was required if you were pulled over

on the other hand would you even be pulled over in the first place?

not sure how obvious it would be in passing that the helmet was non-DOT

Had a friend who lived in New Mexico who used to ride his Harley all over the country - and whenever he came to visit family in California he always used a novelty helmet - he hated the helmet laws and that was as close as he would ever get to complying - - he always said that he had never been ticketed for it

I have a windshield Ram Mount and might put the camera there if I don't like it in the roll hoop. It would not be easy to operate the controls back there with out getting out of the SS.

my GoPro mount these days is down on the nose piece between the center lights - can't even see it, let alone operate the controls from inside the slingshot - - never really thought of it as a problem because I always just used the phone app

actually even when I use the mount on the center of the front windshield it wouldn't have been practical to try to set camera settings on the camera itself when driving

I really like the perspective of having the camera down low if front - - this was a test video I took when I first put the mount there - if you watch it be sure you set YouTube to 1080p HD

I know there is another thread specifically about helmets and I do own more than one and I do almost always wear one when I'm in the Slingshot.

What I want to ask about here in this thread is specifically about Non-DOT novelty helmets

I was thinking it might be nice to have one of these to use for this short trips to the store or evening cruses at night downtown - times where I would be driving fairly slowly and not at risk of road debris being kicked up - - times when I would love to wear a ball cap but don't want to attract attention of the LEO's that I am not wearing a helmet.

Do any of you use a novelty helmet for times went the law says you should have a helmet but you don't want the weight and bulk of a DOT helmet?

Just curious to hear what people who actually have used novelty helmets think of them, Also if you do use one is there any specific one you would recommend?

I was looking at this one from Daytona - I have one of their DOT helmets so I know how their sizing works and I like the fit - - Daytona Eagle
