@MrsRock and I made it safely! BEAUTIFUL ride today! Thanks @MACAWS for the beautiful weather!! I did make a bonehead move and left my gas cap on the back of the Sling and drove off!
Thanks to @MACAWS and @av8ingtom, they had me covered! Like boy scouts, they are always prepared for almost any situation!!

I am beat!!!
Greased the U-Joint under the cup holders, corrected tire pressure, cleaned the piss out of the Sling (though it'll probably be riddled with bug guts by the time I make it to Clarksville... )
We are ready to go!! Got to finish up some packing tonight and we'll be heading out in the AM!!

We will raffle it off at the dinner - Thank You!
Wait!!! Is @FunCycle dropping out?? -
It is with heavy heart that Janet & I will have to cancel , the couple we had looking after my 92 year old Father-in-Law dropped out on us due to family issues so we will be staying home this weekend looking after him and making arrangements for someone to watch over him the following week and a half as we attend my Submarine Reunion. We were so looking forward to this get-together but am sure we will see everyone in Maggie Valley. Y'All have an awesome time and ride safe.
@MACAWS sorry for the short notice, we just found out last night ourselves.
I understand, but...Will miss you @Bubblehead
and
Wrangled @DocG (another bubblehead) into posting this time, but whatever.
Been waaaaaaaaaay too long since I've seen @DocG!!!

Yeah, if I have the time!!
I have those same magnets, they are called neodymium magnets. They are supposed to be really strong. The thing was that I didn't want to mount them on the front, I was trying to mount them in the little ridge on the back of that trim piece. Once I did that, there was simply too much material there for the magnets to be effective. I also thought about drilling holes in the trim piece and painting the magnets black so I could flush mount them in the trim. Not sure if they would hold though and I don't want to destroy the trim piece for nothing.
Thing thing I like about my piece above, is that if I get caught in a rain storm, I can still use my GPS and such because it's clear!!

LMAO yes, that one
Here it is also => What was today's Sling project-Mods , goodies.....? -
Nope there was someone who made a cover plate for the scorche kit and had tiny magnets in all four corners of the head unit, looked very clean with or without the cover.
This one? => What did you do to your Slingshot today? | Page 445 | Polaris Slingshot Forum -

And they posted on here? I missed that... -
Who knows. I have the pieces if someone wants. Alpha offered a harness for $100 and I would have paid that in a second not to go and do all of this, but it's done and I learned something, so all good. The one thing that would be really nice is a wiring harness that allows plug and play to use your own amps as the 100w x2 amplifier that it has is NOT worth $500. I only paid $200 and it's probably not worth that either. But I have it figured out if folks want it. I do think I know more about Ride Command now than even the Polaris reps and support people... which I'm not really happy about
Why can't you add your own amp? -
Very similar to my dilemma when installing a new headunit on a buddy's SS, I couldn't find any small magnets like the ones someone posted a few weeks back and I can't remember the name of the person to ask where he bought them, so I scrapped the metal plate idea and when for plexiglass with the intention of just keeping it there for the most part since the unit can be controlled either via remote or cellphone.
We used the soft rubber window gaskets around 3 sides(<^>) of the plexi to act as water seal and used thinned velcro next to it to keep the thing in place and place 1/2" strip of carbon fiber vinyl wrap on the other side around the edges to hide everything. If you remove the plate and stare at the velcro it can be annoying to look at but we couldn't think of any other way to do it.
So @TheRock or @WraithSS if you know a source of where to buy the small strong magnets pls do post it.
You aren't talking about this post, are you?

I've got the Scosche kit sitting in my garage. Was thinking of lining the inside of the lip with rare earth magnets so they are not visible once the mount is in place. Then make a brushed ferritic stainless steel plate to match the trim around the head unit to act as a cover. Then you can just store the cover in the glove box or in a pouch beside the seat so that it can be accessed if a sudden storm comes out of nowhere. Of course the cover would have a thin foam or rubber seal.
Sometimes it's scary how similarly we think. I attempted to do something very similar. The problem was that I couldn't find magnets that were both small enough to fit inside of the lip and powerful enough to hold the faceplate on. It would just slide.I went with plan B which is supposed to be temporary, but should get me by till I figure out a more permanent solution.

They could have definitely used a more forgiving picture. All I see is scratches on the cover, it's crooked, and it looks like the edges of the plastic aren't finished completely. Wish Scosche made a weatherproof cover as their dash kit looks great.
I KNOW!!!! RIGHT??? I was thinking the exact same thing!!! I even looked at some ways to attempt to add the sliding splash guard to the Scosche, but I think it wouldn't look right. It needs to be manufactured that way to have the finished look. -
If I don't wash the beast twice, lovely bride will not get in it. If the weather was warmer, and we had more time, it could get a bikini wash from the bride. But not in the cards this time.
I will wash tonight before bride gets home, then get her assessment of my miserable effort. Then tomorrow I will attempt to correct my errors. Might even have to use soap. Not 100% sure why, but my beast tends to look like I just went muddin'.
She makes you a better man!
See you soon, Sir!

We need Metra to start making that. They only charge around $20-$35 for something like that.
Well... it took a while, but it's finally here! May try this one as well...Though this install job certainly leaves something to be desired...

Oh... and Mitch said, anyone coming can crash at the Flying Pig Ranch until Monday... when there will be clear/dry/pristine skies.
SOOOOoooo ~> it very well may turn into a giant slumber party (complete with pillow fights and everything)!

I plan on giving it one more day and if Sunday is still a washout we can come up with a plan B for Saturday.Maybe bail early on the wine festival and get some riding in. Then anyone with a long trip could head out Saturday evening.
I will be home tomorrow and put it up for a vote
Oh no you don't buddy!! I'm looking forward to sitting around the fire pit at Flying Pig Ranch!!!
