Catch up and LS Swap

I was thinking I wanted a place to keep track of my LS swap plan and then why not make it a spot where others could use, but dang didn't realize it'd been so long since I posted an article here.... To catch you all up:

Turbo out - Supercharger in - swapped out ZZP turbo for DDM supercharger with 100mm pulley. Dave came to Colorado to do another one in Denver so we did two turbo to super swaps that weekend. The test drive to see if it all worked with Dave had me crapping my pants, roads were wet and wasn't sure if Dave knew how slick. We made it, I drove home in the rain with a big grin on my face but couldn't get on it with the weather.

Gotta have those bumps - Tried and tried to get the line converters to work with ride command stereo and finally gave up. It worked, but honestly sounded like crap as I don't think the signal coming out of RC head units is worth a damn on these older slings. I even tried a special cable a guy had that piggybacked into the RC plug, still sounds like crap. Pulled all that out and replaced with a $30 marine bluetooth receiver and feeding the amp directly. Finally it works and since we use phone anyway to play music this makes more sense. Definitely have to say even with one 10" JL sub, these behind the seat ported boxes are the bees knees for sure!

Video testing it -

OEM Clutch, had to go - After adding the supercharger and getting time on it, it was clear the OEM clutch could not handle 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd shifts at full RPM. Could feel it slip and you'd get a burnt smell as if you were ridding it to long after shifting. Decided to go with the DDM clutch, and the street version as the wife does sometimes still drive the sling. If you didn't know the engine has to come out to do a clutch job, so not as easy as it should be. The DDM street clutch can in fact hold the supercharger power now and doesn't slip. Engagement is smooth, little more aggressive than the OEM clutch but you get used to it super quick. Pedal feels just a tad stiffer, but honestly I'm very happy with this upgrade!

4-wheel Conversion - I'm sure some might stop here as they like the sling as it is and/or have strong opinions on the 4 wheel converted ones and that's fine. Always felt these were a blank canvas for folks to make their own and when it comes to somethings I've seen done I'm not a fan, however it's theirs and their creation. For me, from day one I've seen the slingshot as an adult go-cart, see my 1st post and 4 wheels has been on the list of upgrades for awhile. I think I even referenced this in my first blog post here. Anyway, at the time I made my decision there were three main kits available. DDM, Plus1, and Bullet Speed.

DDM and Plus1 from what I can tell are very similar, utilizing the same rear ends just setup slightly different. Bullet speed hands down looked like the best however they are pricey compared to the other options at the time. I landed on going with the DDM kit, mostly as after working with Dave I knew he'd take care of me after the sale. No shade on the plus1 kit, just didn't have as much experience with them. Gearing wise, went with 3:45 and limited slip. This may not be the best choice for say a stock motor, but worked good on the supercharger setup power wise and I knew it'd be closer to what I needed down the road if I went bigger on motor. Installed this kit myself after it showed up on a pallet and for those doing in their garage it is easier with the wheels on it to get it into position :)

After seeing the bullet speed kit in person a few times now and all that polished bling, I do kinda wish I'd of bitten the bullet and went with that kit. I do a lot of car shows and that kit is hands down the sexiest of them all right now. It should also be noted that since I got mine ZZP has one in the works that's close to being available. Price wise I think it's close to ddm/plus1, however has a bit different geometry and keeps the sling closer to stock overall length. This just would of been another one to choose from had it been available! I'm happy with what I have and love the way the sling handles now with the conversion. Traction is improved along with breaking, and happy to say I love it in the Colorado switchbacks.

Well that catches you all up if you've been following along so far. Of course there was a lot of minor cosmetic, led, small type upgrades done as well but that's part of making it our own. I'll do a new article for the LS swap and keeping track of where I'm at. That project is just starting, but if you know me I don't sit on ideas for long and can't wait to see YOLO having 500+ HP and the fun that will entail!
