Here is a different view. This is the second to last session of the day. @Gadgeteer is the copilot on this one, I'm chasing @Jdin around the track. DAMN!!! Joe is quick. I had such a blast chasing him though!! :D@ethermion is also on the track, other than that, it's just us 3. The Invaders had gone home at this point in the day due to some mechanical difficulties. Enjoy!!

Thanks @TheRock! Great run and I really appreciate your posting the videos! As I said, we were moving way too fast to take in the details. Being able to see the data with the video is pretty awesome.

I still chuckle when I think about @Jdin mentioning the target cones and the blank look on our faces. ?( Cones?
Once I get better tires and maybe upgrade the brakes and/or suspension (and remember to look for those cones) I'll be able to keep up with you guys. ;)

stuffed the shit out of my tank.

Only got 94miles out of it and that was fumes when I got to the seven eleven to fill up.

Sounds like you got close to 10mpg. Not sure how you guys burned that much fuel. I probably went through half a tank, so that would put me on the low 20s. Maybe the difference is how hard you and @TheRock pushed the straights to the last moment.

Here is another tidbit for inquiring minds:

Rocky burned 15+ gallons of gas just at the track. I burned 3 or so.

Wow. If my calculations are even close to accurate, that means @TheRock was averaging less than 7 mpg! I thought that couldn't be, but using the same numbers, @ethermion would have averaged close to 30 mpg which seems a little high but still in the expected ballpark. Jeeezzz! Just one more reason I don't think I will ever add a Turbo. :)

Since we're on the topic of MPG, I noticed something very weird with my number. I filled up my tank when we broke out for lunch on Track Day and the next time I filled up, on Tuesday, my average on the gauges read 30mpg. This is odd, because I didn't reset anything, I ran 2-3 sessions on the track after the fill up, and drove home on back roads, as usual. What's weird is that I have never averaged more than 27, even on my previous SS, so how could I get 30, especially after running hard on the track? Scooby Doo! Where are you?!

something is off, that is not 30fps more like 5 fps

I agree, but the settings were set to 30fps. Since you mentioned it, I've tried to find the frame rate of the recording and I've gotten 8fps or 24 fps. Either way, it looks just as jittery. No worries. It was a one time thing and more of a pain in the ass than it was worth. Next time I'll just rent a Gopro and be done with it.

Ok, I finally managed to get my video uploaded. My phone, and the app I was using, only recorded at 30fps, so it's a little choppy. Also, the green blurs in the corners are the edges of the DIY foam windscreen I was using. On the positive side, the windscreen worked great and the audio is very clear until I hit 70-80mph. Not bad for a hastily cobbled together action cam rig on the cheap. :D

My "better?" comment at the beginning was in reference to switching from Katy Perry to Linkin Park on Pandora. :whistling:

I do have video of the session you rode with me, but I believe that the camera was mounted on the hood for that one. Either way I still have the data to go with it, I'll get it posted as soon as I can. Probably be this weekend.

No hurry and bumper view is fine. I'm just curious how the data syncs with the video. Thanks!

my speedo got well above 100 on the track

I knew it had too to be. If I had to guess, it felt like 110-115 on long straight during that last session. On my runs, I was barely breaking 90 before backing off for the turn. I might have been able to push it to 95, but stock brakes don't inspire as much confidence as your Big Brake kit and my acceleration rate drops quickly once I pass 80 on the speedo.

you can run the whole track in 3rd

You can, but I couldn't bear the red-line screaming at me on the straights. Also, my tires (stock Kendas) seemed to lose more grip in the tighter turns, unless I dropped to 2nd. I think it was a difference of being at the high, fading end of the torque curve versus the low, building end when working the throttle. In some cases, I lost all grip which is how I ended up in the grass at the top of the corkscrew, after the Karussel. No harm, but serious pucker factor. I felt bad for the guy riding with me. Once I regained control in the grass, I grinned at him and yelled "OOOPS!" as I pulled a tight loop and bounded back on the track. To his credit, he just shrugged, gave me a thumbs up, and grinned right back.

@TheRock, do you have footage of the last session, when I was riding shotgun?

I'm surprised to see that your speeds in session 1 were very similar to the speeds I was hitting, and I felt like you wear hitting much higher speeds on the last session. While your mods can accelerate and decelerate faster than stock, I wouldn't think that would make enough of a difference for you to lap me. I'd be curious to see a comparison between the 1st and last sessions, to see the difference in speeds.

Either way, I'd just like to see that last run again, if for no other reason than to see what actually happened. 8| All I really remember is a shit ton of noise blasting out of the speakers, occasionally overwhelmed by the roar of your engine approaching red line, and a blur of black, green, and blue, with a small circle of focused clarity in the center of my vision. I know it was fun, because I was laughing, but the details are foggy. :D

So last night, on the way home from Summit Point, I was thinking it seems ironic that some of the guys couldn't make it to Track Day because their families made special plans for them on the same day (Father's Day). ?(

So, instead of Dad spending a day running the wheels off his favorite toy, he stayed home... to do something special... for Father's Day.

I don't have kids, so maybe I don't "get it". Anyway... just one of the countless and (often) pointless thoughts that pop into my head and I decided to share. Hope all the guys had an enjoyable and happy Father's Day, on and/or off the track!

After a pretty exhaustive search, I finally found someone that offers track coverage for our Slingshots!

    XINSURANCE.com - Track Day Insurance

Everyone knows (or should know) that any standard vehicle policy will not cover incidents related to competitive racing. What you may not know is that many policies also will not cover non-competitive, HPDE or Track Day events. Some standard policies may cover non-competitive events, but after covering just one accident, they may drop you. "One-and-done" as they say. If that happens, you will probably have a hard time finding another carrier willing to take you. If you want a worry-free track experience, Track Day insurance is the way to go. It's pricey, but worth the peace of mind that you have coverage and you don't risk losing your standard street coverage.

I'm suggesting XINSURANCE.com because they are the only carrier I have found, so far, that will cover the Slingshot for motorsports events. Most motorsport/track day insurance carriers will only cover 4-wheeled cars, not motorcycles (or autocycles). Some only cover 2-wheel motorcycles, not our beloved 3-wheelers. So, we've been left out in the cold because nobody wants us... until now. As a mentioned above, it is pricey but their policy coverage is more comprehensive than typical track policies.

    One-day policy for a 4-wheeler or 2-wheeler:

    • My estimated premium = $200 (approximate, may not include tax/fees (T&F))
    • Coverage

      • Collision only. Max. value could be based on blue-book or customer-specified, depending on carrier.

    One-day/one-incident policy for a 2016 SL LE from XINSURANCE.com:

    • My actual premium = $320 + T&F ($379.60 total)
    • Coverage

      • Collision - I specified the max.value of $27,000 (full replacement MSRP), less a 10% deductible.
      • Basic Personal Liability (25/50/10)

        • $25,000/person
        • $50,000/accident
        • $10,000 Property Damage (PD)
        • $1000 SIR-BI
        • $1000 SIR-PD
      • Options (I didn't take advantage of these, but they were noted on the quote)

        • Optional liability limits #1: 50/100/20 @ $589 + T&F
        • Optional liability limits #2: 100/200/50 @ $839 + T&F
        • Other Coverages available: (Additional underwriting required and an increase in premium, if accepted)

          • Limited Terrorism Coverage
          • Retroactive Coverage

Seems like a pretty fair deal considering what you get for your money. Also, I had reported a total loss on my previous SS just last year (not track related), so my cost might be a bit higher than average.

Bonus: Kudos to the rep/underwriter that worked on my account, Tyson Lindsey! Their website recommended calling their office, after completing a quote request, if you had special requests or questions. I called in on Friday morning to let them know my RFQ was very last minute (Track Day on Sunday). Tyson went way above and beyond, keeping me updated and staying until almost 9PM to get a policy emailed to me for review and acceptance. The office closed at 5pm. I filled out the forms they needed, included payment info, emailed it back on Saturday afternoon, and I received a confirmation from Tyson approximately 30 minutes later that I was good to go for hitting the track the next day. How freakin' awesome is that!?

Bottom-line: If you're taking your Slingshot to the track, I recommend getting track insurance (to protect you and your beloved SS) and I highly recommend you try XINSURANCE.com.

@Gadgeteer did you get track insurance through your regular insurance company, or? How much does it run and is it for a day, week, month...?

Nope. Went through http://www.xinsurance.com. Final cost was just under $380 for one day. More than I wanted to spend, but I couldn't find anyone else that would touch the SS and the coverage is more comprehensive than others. Instead of just covering vehicle damage for approx. $200/day, my policy includes injury for driver and passenger (50k/ea.), liability for other involved vehicles (25k), and property damage (10k). It's almost as comprehensive as regular car insurance, but it only covers on-track incidents. My cost might have been higher because of my total loss, last spring.

We just checked in at the Wingate in Winchester. I'm not a morning person, so it was better to stay the night locally than try and get up before the sun and try making it on time. Looks like is going to a small group of us, but we shall represent! I even managed to get track insurance, so I'll be pushing the envelope a bit harder this time. See y'all (that will be there) in the morning.

There is a hotel in town, but @Gadgeteer dude won't need it. He knows how to ride in rain. Rain follows him. We have 1000s of miles riding together, and I am sure he will be fine. Pretty sure he will scurry home to sleep with his beautiful bride. I would too. Err, to be with my bride, not his... You get the idea... But his bride is beautiful too... Oh dear, my bride surfs this forum...

Ride safe gadget dude! I will call you tomorrow to make sure you ain't dead.

Made it home, safe and sound. Drizzle stopped once I got out of the valley and the rest was chilly, but dry.
