Good evening all. Just wanted to share a problem I had resolved by replacing the engine. I have a 2021 Slingshot R with 10,800 miles.

I noticed a large cloud of smoke come up in passenger foot area during a hard downshift into 3rd gear while on a highway drive. A person driving behind me said they saw smoke from behind me anytime I would really mash on the accelerator. I checked the oil level and was over 2 quarts of oil low, no oil showing on the dipstick. I found oil in the mass air flow tube that would get vertically sucked up into the throttle body with a wide open throttle body during hard acceleration.

I checked and the Polaris Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) showed a known issue with the PCV valve on 2020 models that would cause heavy oil consumption that was corrected on 2021 and new models during production. It can be verified by wrench size required to remove the PCV valve. 18mm and you’re good, 17mm and it’s the old model that should be replaced.

Scheduled appointment to drop off at dealership on a Tuesday and drove another 200 miles or so before appointment. On night drive, could smell burning oil and saw heavy smoke multiple times. Check engine light started flashing, found small town and no oil on dipstick again. Put closest oil the gas station had and drove another 35 miles home and 20 miles to dealership . Dropped off at dealership on Tuesday, check engine flashing and no oil on dipstick when arrived at dealership.

They confirmed oil consumption by Wednesday, and Polaris fix was to replace the engine. Getting engine shipped in and installed took 2 weeks. Got her back this last Wednesday and doing initial engine break in.

Please everyone make sure to check your oil levels and take in under warranty for oil consumption. Most makes will not warranty anything under 1 quart of oil consumption per 1,000 miles, but do not know what Polaris’ policy is. Engine alone would have been $12,000 plus install if out of warranty.

Hopefully someone finds this useful (sorry for wall of text)

She’s going to turn 13 this summer and already told the wife I’m going to start teaching her to drive in it this summer. It is by far the easiest and most forgiving clutch I’ve ever used and handles likes dream. Then she will be able to bypass the millennial anti theft device for the rest of her life.
I won’t be letting her take it out by herself, but I’m looking forward to some great daddy daughter time before she starts hating me when she’s a teenager.

Congrats. Do you mind me asking how much you paid for this? Or at least a close ballpark?

    It is manual or automatic?

It’s a manual. I test drove an automatic (2021 but without paddle shifters) and did not like the feel at all. Shifts were very rough and didn’t really let you run through the gears at a high enough RPM. Really jerky feeling.
It was new, but a dealer demo with 1800 miles. It already had the center console bag, both behind the seat bags, dash bags and rear speakers. Was stuck at MSRP but no charge for the accessories. Still had to pay the freight and dealership set up fees that added a little more than 2k.
Finally back to home sweet home.

My beautiful wife who enables me.

Look on my daughter’s face for the first ride was priceless!

Finally picked up Wednesday afternoon in Spokane,WA. Great views driving through mountains that still have snow ❄️ on the sides of the road going through Idaho, but definitely ran into rain 🌧 in Idaho and Montana. 37 degrees and got soaked. Change of clothes at a gas station and back on the road. Made it to just south of Salt Lake City to rest. On to New Mexico in the morning.

Handles like a dream and having so much fun with my wife. Turned traction control off any time roads were wet but didn’t break traction one time except for starting in first on the aggressive side.

Full face helmets with communication have made a huge difference, thanks for the advice so far!

Looks like wife and I are flying in Wednesday morning to Spokane to begin journey back. Lowest quote that seems reliable or guaranteed dates was $2100 for enclosed transport. Two tickets on Southwest for just under $600. Spokane to Salt Lake City, SLC to outside Santa Fe, then to DFW (McKinney). Rolling the dice and praying for dry roads!

I’ve seen it mentioned on the forums here about turning off traction control and ABS in rain. Forgive my ignorance, but what happens in the slingshot during rain that benefits turning them off? I grasp ABS part taking control away from driver. Is it during straight line driving, cornering, or both where rain is such a concern? I know it is such a light weight vehicle, but again forgive my ignorance.

Good morning all. I’ve purchased my first slingshot and can’t wait to take possession. My dilemma is transporting from a dealership by Spokane Washington to Dallas Texas. I know it needs an enclosed trailer. Any recommendations for an auto transport company? I had one scheduled with a three day pickup window but it looks like they are dropping the ball and can’t give me a date of pickup at this point.

Also considering flying there to pickup and drive home, but it looks like a 28 hour drive. It’s a dealer demo 2021 Slingshot R, 1800 miles on it. First service has already been performed. Any concerns with constant driving for extended time over 1-2 days?

Thanks in advance for any guidance or advice.
