We did a bit of hydroplaning come home from SSITR yesterday but easily recovered. It was a steady rain with fully wet roads and long sweeping turns in the interstate. Was just a wobble a few times but certainly puckered. Luckily the wife was asleep in the passenger seat.

Wife was asleep in a steady rain? Lots of alcohol or sleeping pills involved?

@MBMedic thank you but please know that I was in no way trying to promote anything. As I have stated in my thread I have along way to go and do not want anyone thinking it will be to market soon if ever (I'm not a company or have the resources past my garage at the moment).

    @Ruptured Duck
have you considered adopting an Elio like fundraising model? For
example, start a waiting list on orders with a $300 deposit, and perhaps
sweeten the pot by offering a 10% discount on the price. That could
easily raise 10 or 20K. The benefits include more resources, faster
production, easier to convince suppliers if you can prove demand, and
it'll give you more incentive to actually get it finished. Many of us would be willing to help you get this together.

I come here for the SS information. Having said that, my daughters see naked women all the time (e.g., Kim Kardashian 'breaking the Internet'), and that is in the general domain, not in a restricted area (remember, no one is allowed access to NSFW section unless confirming they are of legal age). I don't post images in NSFW, but then again, I don't swap recipes, discuss politics, or many of the other non-SS threads on this site. The main focus of this site is SS, but it builds a sense of community to have SS friends share outside activities, provided they are not illegal.

What the Black Lives Matter movement seems to be missing is that their actions will likely lead to more black deaths. Casting police as haters; shooting police; etc. will only serve to discourage police from doing their job in black neighborhoods. Why would police actively try to reduce crime in these areas if they are misrepresented and targeted? Prudence would dictate they request assignments in other neighborhoods or hang out in coffee shops. Criminals will then take hold and murders will escalate.

Sadly, if a white man shoots a black man, the race is in the headline. When a black man shoots a white man (as is apparently the case here), race is not mentioned.

Poor casting aside, with the forces the SS is designed to endure (think very high speed, donuts, etc.), it is unlikely this was a catastrophic failure at the speeds he was traveling, and must have been building for some time. It seems logical that a crack was already developing before he hit that turnaround, and may have even formed in some earlier event that is undocumented. If that is the case, it would be prudent for all of us to regularly check the swing arm for cracks, particularly in this location, and particularly after any violent shock to the system like a pothole or hitting a curb.

If you look at the number of posts, it is much, much closer; I suspect many of the members of the other site are very infrequent users and may not even own a SS

Heat seems to be a common topic in the forum, so I thought I would summarize some of the solutions. The physics is simple. To reduce your cabin temperature, you either need to reduce the magnitude of the sources of heat into the cabin or you need to increase the loss of heat from the cabin. Replacing the muffler, adding shielding or insulation, blocking holes in the firewall, adding a hood vent, adding a top are examples of reducing the magnitude of the sources. Mixing in cooler air via vent tubes, wind wings, fans, different (or no) windshields are examples of increasing the loss of heat from the cabin. No one has done a systematic study of which of these various techniques is most cost effective, and every location has different needs (someone in Minnesota will have less need for cooling the cabin than someone in Miami). Further, each technique has pros and cons. Many have side effects to consider (e.g., does the Polaris heat management system cause thermal stress on the engine, does opening the hood vent allow rain to wreck havoc on the engine, how much wind can you stand in the cabin, how difficult to install, does it worsen or enhance the SS appearance, etc.). Of course, the costs of each of these techniques varies wildly; some are dirt cheap while others cost thousands.

It is important to remember that most of us have seasons, and the added heat will be a blessing for half the year. Thus, approaches that can be easily altered might be good for those folks so they get cooler in summer and warmer in winter; things like wind wings, hood vents, tops, windshields. Floor mats and hood vents have the added bonus of enhancing appearance.

If anyone is interested in any of these approaches, just use the search feature. I've seen 3 different wind wings; several different vent tubes, several fan options; 4 different windshield options; several tops to consider; many options for shielding or insulation.

BKL posted this list on the dark side, so I guess that answers my question:
    ToolUses
    Torx Bits -
T40 - Most body panel screws
    T30 - ?Can't remember at the moment?
T25 - Smaller body pieces, underhood Hi-Low screws for inserts
    T20 - Polaris speaker modules
    Hex Bits -
    4mm - Outer Headlights

    Sockets -
    10mm - Lower wing bolts
    13mm - Side mirror adjustment
    16mm - Roll Hoop bolts
    1-5/8" or
41mm - Original Rear Axle Nut
1-3/4" - New Double Axle Nuts

    Misc.
Body Panel Pliers - Plastic rivets
Extra plastic rivets and metal fasteners. (Remember to always start fasteners by hand as they break easily if cross-threaded.)

Walmart has this on sale for $12, which seems like it might be nice to keep in the SS in case you're on the road and need to access the battery or storage under the roll bar or have to do a repair:
Electronic Repair Metal Shank T40-T9 Security Torx Screwdriver Bit Set 8 in 1 - Walmart.com
If this set is all you need to access every nook and cranny, it might be good for general things as well. Not as nice as the sets recommended above, but very compact and useful for carrying onboard at all times.

Anyone know what Torx bit sizes are needed for the various screws/bolts on the SS? I've seen T25, T30, T40 mentioned, but just wondering if anyone knows what set is best to buy to be able to access every nook and cranny.

    Thanks!
    :)

Plug kit with CO2 inflator, stored under the passenger roll hoop.

Keep a torx in the glove box to get access.

@Red ; that is a slick location to store something that will be infrequently used. Do you know the dimensions of that storage area (or alternately, approximately the size of the tire kit, as it seems a perfect fit).
