That must be the reason!!!

I'm not sure why this is so popular for our SS's???

Paint applied. Just waiting to get aluminum brackets back from the welder.
-
I'm watching this too for an affordable weatherproof cover when not trailering.
-
Great! Thanks for the info. That paint should be easy to find.

I hope it does fit. The folks at Twist Dynamics (Wayne) developed one to handle their top. It is pretty pricey. Reading around I see folks suggesting a plain old Walmart/Pep Boys/etc car cover -$50ish. Not suitable for open trailering, but ideal for a static cover. Or come on up to Nova Scotia and try my cover! Lobster, scallops, etc!!!

Paint help needed. I think I will be painting the fender the gray metallic body colour of my base SS. But using a rattle can. On another forum I saw reference to Shark Gray (recent model Corvettes), but I don't expect to find that in aerosol (although a local auto body shop could mix it, but pricey). What else is close and more commonly available?

I''m pretty sure if it cannot handle the roof it won't handle the wing. That is why I responded. It's a snug fit - as of course it needs to be for trailering.

Here is the template and actual bracket for mounting the fender to the swingarm. Ignore the big hole - it was in the scrap I had on hand. This is 3/8" aluminum, although I'm sure 1/4" would be fine. Just used what I had.

I''m not sure if this helps, but I do have the Polaris Trailering cover, and it will not fit with my Twist roof installed. The roof frame is easy to remove though, so I will do so when trailering (which won't happen til we go south in the fall).

First semi-final mock-up. Looks decent. Aluminum brackets are bolted together but will be welded. Not road tested yet but a static test has no wiggle-wobble (an SAE term, no doubt). So I guess I will keep on down this $20 fender road.

Wheel movement with suspension travel - does anybody know how much vertical movement the wheel has with full compression of the coil-over? Assuming stock suspension. Just wondering how far above the tire a fender needs to be if the fender were mounted to the black underbody rather than to the shock mounts.

Did a bit of heating. With a concrete block on top. Backwoods engineering underway here!!! Made the angle less severe.

This might just work! A long way to go - fitting, making brackets, prep and painting. Not sure what it is off, but the Honda casting number is 61100-958-6800. I'll work on it a bit more and see how it looks. It cost $20 at a local atv yard so I will be out only my time if it looks crappy. In the pics it is just sitting on a1" thick block of wood on top of the tire. I will gently put some heat on the plastic in an effort to reduce the angle so it better matches the curve of the tire.

Well I'm very early on in the "thinking about it " process. About 1 hour. Need to round up a fender and start from there. Yes, I will need to build some sort of bracket(s). No idea yet if it will move with the wheel (my preference from the appearance and function point of view) or attached to the black underbody above the wheel (likely a lot simpler).

There are some good looking rear fenders on the market, but all are pretty pricey (especially when converted to Cdn $$ and allowing for a big shipping fee). So I am starting to think about making one. Was thinking a front fender from an old Honda Big Red (or any similar atv trike) might be a good starting point. Has anybody gone down that road??

How about horizontal, but mounted above the belt guard and attached to the lower shock bolt. I didn't go check, but I think the plate would look better there than to the side of the belt guard

Wait, are you in Nova Scotia, or Florida?
Nova Scotia til late Nov.

On my Base I accidentally scuffed a small area in the gray. I know I can buff it to smooth it, but does anybody know how I will be able to restore the glitter? Or perhaps it is throughout the plastic and not just on the surface??

Thanks! I guess I had better "up my game" and get a promotion!! But seriously it's not important. But the variety of useful information folks share on the forum is great. There are no other SS owners anywhere near me (check the member map!!) so I greatly rely on the forum for guidance.
