When do we get to see some photos of that front splitter all mounted up?

One of our Fab guys just drew up the brackets we are going to use for support in addition to the front support rods and sent the files to the laser cutters. Should have the brackets back in a few business days. Once mounted I'll post some pics.

Okay Kyle - please tell us

in your OP your words "I've already sorted out the rear"

have you actually done something to help with that giant vacuum creating dead zone?

I've sorted out the needed down force on the rear. We have some ideas about that dead zone/back draft issue that we are going to be testing some theories on in the future. Hoping to get some answers this year but right now Ocala prep is the main focus and once Ocala is over we are going to Tail of the Dragon for a week and then back to MI where we will likely have snow or weather too cold to comfortably go out and do anything. That portion may have to wait until next year.

interesting! does it also enable launch control as I have heard some do? and how did you hook it up?

It does have launch control also. It’s wired into the ignition system through the coil packs and also an additional switch on the clutch pedal. The harness runs to a box that connects to my laptop via USB that allows me to set the rpm hold limit and how much to retard the timing.

Will be interesting to see how it works out. For your intended use, looks good.

    For the rest of us...
The further that reaches out at the front from the wheels, the quicker that 4.5" clearance is gonna dissappear on bumps, ramps, and incline changes...

We will also be doing a less aggressive version once we have mounting options sorted out. Also, unless your SS is bagged or has been significantly lowered on coil overs, clearance shouldn't be an issue. The SS doesn't sit that low and the suspension isn't that soft. I have mine lowered quite a bit and clearance with the stock front end has never been an issue even tossing it around on a road course. But I also do not live in places like Los Angeles where driveways to a lot of places tend to be pretty steep and I cannot speak to the road quality, bump size, or ramp inclines in Alabama.

After my last 1/2mi event, I decided that aero was going to be one of a number of things I would focus on to prep for the next half mile in Ocala. In an effort to create a little more stability on the front end of my SS, I've already sorted out the rear, I came up with a basic design and sent it to our friends over at APR and they made a custom one off carbon fiber front splitter for me. Well, it came in today and now I just need to get it mounted. It looks amazing and is solid. It's pretty aggressive and sits 4.5" off the front of the SS and goes all the way back to the oil pan which I'm hoping will help stabilize some of the air flow going under the SS but testing after it is mounted will tell me that.

This is exactly why my first 2 runs at any high speed events are typically between 80-100ish mph. I feel out both lanes prior to going full tilt. I'm not saying Jeff did or didn't. I wasn't there. At the Indy event, there was a rather large hump in the right hand lane JUST before the 1/2mi mark. That hump extended to the far right hand portion of the left lane so all of my runs were on the left side of the left lane. This is an extremely unfortunate accident and both the track and the shut down area looked pretty sketchy to me. This is a reminder that there are large risks in what we do at events like these. The end result could potentially be the same in a SS doing 140+ in an open cockpit. Especially without proper safety gear.

Great news - we are working to to get as many experienced drivers as possible to these events. I have one end goal and that is to have a regular racing circuit of 3-4 races per year exclusively for Slingshots.
First we need to get enough people interested
Second we need to set up some training
Third we need a set of rules and safety equipment

The track days are a great way to build momentum to the end game.

I'll definitely be interested for next year as long as our development does not go in a different direction. I'm always down to have an experienced ride along for coaching on specific tracks. You can always learn more. As for safety equipment, I'm running a MOMO Supercup seat, a stronger roll bar which is being turned into a full cage, and a 6pt harness. Probably overkill for a track setup but God forbid the worst case scenario plays out on the back half of a 1/2mi where speeds are 140+ I'd like a chance at walking away from it.

Great info! I know your post was directed primarily at Bill but you made point that made me reflect on my own post. Most people that are not in law enforcement don't carry a weapon with a light mounted. Here in Alabama we are an "open carry" state and I see more and more citizens carrying firearms with lights. I mostly carry open whether I'm working or not unless the particular situation dictates otherwise. Anytime I am going into a situation that COULD require artificial light I always carry a weapon with one mounted and have a handheld light also. You don't want to walk around pointing your gun at everything you want to see unless your clearing a building or area for a dangerous suspect.

In MI we can conceal as long as you have a CPL or open carry but it’s rare you see anyone open carrying. I also moonlight for a private security company that provides armed protection for individuals when I’m not at ZZP. I make sure I’m always prepared with lights that are not attached to my firearm and other tools for the job.

I’m going to throw my 2 cents in here. Check out Stealth Gear USA. Their venticore series is amazingly comfortable, breathable, wearable all day, and washable. They make it in a mini and a standard. My EDC is a Shield 45. I originally tried the mini and wasn’t sold so I tried the standard and love it. They actually make one for your Kimber and can be found here kimber-ultracarryii-ventcore-standard.html If you want an OWB check out their Flex series. Are use one of those for my VP9 and love it. If you need one that will also accommodate a light multiholsters, while not as comfortable, makes a lot of custom stuff. I have a Viridian X5L on my VP9 and finding a holster was almost impossible. Homepage – MultiHolsters made one for me. OWB but I’m my opinion that’s way to big for an EDC. Also, if you’re also in the market for a good EDC belt I stumbled across one at Cabelas of all places. They’re nylon and have a triangular shaped buckle and are 2 layers thick which keeps them from sagging. They’re also only $24. Good luck. The holster game sucks and a holster that fits one person great may not fit you. I think I have 8 or 9 holsters and use 2-3 of them.

I was thinking the same thing @MACAWS... I like the looks, but the holes on the deck look a bit unfinished... Maybe needs something like Assault does for their new roll hoops...

I also think some wake speakers could easily mount there and then with some @Slingrazor humpless inserts, would look nice... 8)

As it sits now it is basically unfinished. We ran out of time before Indy so just getting it in for safety was my main concern. I'm still trying to figure out what we will do about the holes. Looking into seeing if we can adapt the factory roll hoop covers to it but that would require clearancing them for the round bars. We'll figure it out but this project is still in its infancy really.

    @Kyle D

I love that roll bar / does it use the roll hoop mounting points?
Is that something you guys sell?

@MACAWS It does use the roll hoop mounting points. It’s currently a 1 off but we have a few different ideas we are working on to keep you all safe. There’s a few products out there that look like they add protection but looking at how they mount to a slingshot they would never pass a tech check at a track and they likely would fail in the event of an accident. You’ll see this bar evolve as we get closer to Ocala but we are fixturing everything along the way so we can reproduce them at almost any stage. I haven’t figured out how we will mass scale it yet but it’s in the works.

@Kyle D, apologies if this is a stupid question, but what is the device mounted just forward and to the driver's side of the rear tire?

    That's his radiator @KayTwo

That is a secondary radiator. I got tired of getting blasted with hot air and roasting in the cockpit when the front cooling fans kicked on at 195*. So we installed this rear mounted one which runs in parallel with the OEM system. The difference is that the rear mounted one turns that fan on at 185* and sucks all the hot air out of the back so the front fans never turn on. Best mod we sell in my opinion. We sell the kit on our site for $550.
