    @Locapacow

That was a nasty install. Before I even got the horns in, I plugged them in to make sure they worked. Yep.

Then as you know, it was impossible to get those stock bolts back in. I contorted my body every which way, a losing prospect. You just can't hold the horn bracket up with one hand, leaning over the tire, and thread the bolt on around the bar with the other hand.

I tried for an hour this morning and an hour tonight. Figured I'd just give up and go ahead and order those shorter bolts.

Closed the hood, and doh! As I looked through the nose, instantly the entire thing was much, much easier. Reaching through the nose, I could see where and was able to line the holes up and get the stock bolts back in fairly easily. Might have been nice if the video included that tidbit.

But just my rotten luck. I finished, check all the connections, all looked good. Turned the sling to accessory, and NO HORN. The fuse is fine. I don't know what happened.

    I frigging give up!!!

I am interested but my schedule is inconsistent / can change any given week but I can say that I work Sunday's no matter what and should have Saturday's off except for next week. So I should be able to make a Saturday right. The dates you have listed aren't right... July 9th is a Monday / July 10th is a Tuesday.
To get more interested you could check out the Northeast Slingshot Group on Facebook. This area here doesn't seem to have a big local following

    Thanks I fixed the dates.

I have posted this in the "other" forum and to a couple of Facebook groups (New England Slingshots, East Coast Slingshots) but didn't know about the Northeast one, will try to find it, thanks.

    Attention MA/NH riders!

We are trying to plan out a ride from Nashua, NH to Rye Beach, NH. We will meet in Nashua then head up the back roads to Hampton Beach, then travel up the Route 1A coastal road (scenic and twisty!) and have lunch at Petey's Summertime Seafood in Rye (seems to be plenty of parking).

We are looking at a couple of possible dates:

    Sunday Jul 1
    Saturday July 7
    Sunday July 8
    Saturday July 14
    Sunday July 15

Rain date to be determined after the date is set.

Is anyone interested? This would be a great ride with a bunch of Slingshots traveling together......

We are trying to plan out a trip that us New Englanders can meet and ride together on. But most of us are so far apart it's hard to make a trip almost all can attend.

We are going to plan a trip on Sunday July 1 (unless people are leaving for vacations that Sunday). If so, Saturday or Sunday July 13-14 will work.

Meet up in Nashua NH. Travel the back roads to Hampton Beach, NH and take Route 1A up the coastline to Rye, then have lunch at Petey's Summertime Seafood. Route 1A is windy and scenic, following the ocean coastline. It's a neat road for the Slingshot.

Is anyone interested in joining us?

It’s the plug that’s attached to the horn. I have a 17 and had the Same problem until it dawned on me. I found it easier to remove the old horn to get the cable off.
Also, I found the bolts were too long to slide back in between the SS frame / and the horn assembly. I ended up ordering shorter bolts.

Yep. Just like every other mod, it never goes easy. I too found it impossible to get the bolts back on with the horn frame attached. Ahh the things those videos leave out...

I'll be getting the bolts you recommended, thanks much

that probably is my review! If you need shorter bolts, you'll need M6 x 1.0 x 12m hex flange bolts. I couldn't find it locally and ordered them from albanycountyfasteners.com. Shipping costs more than the bolts!
I'm not the handiest of people but the videos do make it seem easier or some of the items are not packaged as well as they should. For example, the optima battery kit, I had to grind open the battery terminals to fit onto the battery. In retrospect, it would have been easier to go to the store and buy bigger terminals. What was a 45 minute install turned into 2-3 hours.

It's a labor of love for sure.

So the problem you had with the stock bolts was they were so long upon removal/reinstallation they were rubbing against/damaging the paint on the bar in front of them?

Adding the brackets contributed to this (i.e., the bracket depth)?

I removed the horn before work this morning and thanks, that was the plug. Like I said I bypassed that one because it did not look like the plug in the video. I'm OCD so if something doesn't match exactly then it can't be right :)

Ahh, I'll bet you were the one who wrote the review on slingmods.com about this horn. I read it today and was trying to figure out what you figured out.

I genuinely like slingmods.com, great crew. But about half of their videos make it appear MUCH easier than it really is. The video for this horn is put bracket together, attach horns to bracket, unplug stock horn and plug new horn into same plug, mount, and you are done.

    Not.....

Anyway, the plug you mention doesn't look anything like the plug that I received with the new horn/the plus in the slingmods.com video. That's why I moved on to looking elsewhere.

I'm going to do a dry run this week regarding the bolts since you mention a problem with them.

Nothing is as easy as it seems! Thanks much for the info!

    Reviving this thread.

I'm trying to install these horns now, and I have them mounted on a bracket that will hang down in front of the grill.

The horns came with a connector plug. slingmods' video says to simple unplug the stock horn plug and plug this new one right in.

    ha.

I can't find the horn plug anywhere.

    2017 SLR

Anyone know where it is? I looked everywhere and unplugged re replugged 4 plugs... none were it...

The horn wire goes into a sheath and that's the last I can see of where it goes.......

Thanks everyone. It's a work in progress learning electrical stuff.

I also tried to put my rally horn in today. The instructions were absolutely awful and incorrect. The parts list matched the parts in the bag, but the instructions refer to parts that were not included. They also say to rotate the horns which is impossible with the brackets they put on them. I have the feeling I got a new version of the rally horn and old directions.

So that didn't work either. Then one of the speakers that got put in last night by a professional has got a high pitched whine, and the bluetooth music sounds like crap.

All day long farting around with the sling and getting nothing done. :cursing:
