I like the heavy duty brackets...mine snapped off under 1000 miles..
Does it connect to the front of the swing arm?

Someone posted a video on YouTube of his rear wheel during a normal ride...that thing bounces you and down a lot....so if you have any hard bumps I can see why my license plate bracket is hitting the fender.

...and I thought I did well averaging 10000 miles on the rar Kendas! I'm hoping to get around 10-11000 miles on my current Nitto 555 G2 315 tire.

the factory tires only have 8/32” tread brand new. Wear bars are at 3/32”. I’m never going to waste money on any tire that only has that much tread brand new. The tires on my van have 16/32 brand new.... how much more wear can I get with twice as much tread to start with?

I would like your opinion on using these items to do a laser alignment. Using a metal plate attached to the front wheels so the magnet sticks....once all the measurements are calculated for the laser offset. This could be done for under $100.

Well since summer is over it’s time to think heated riding gear again....I have my neutrino installed under the hood over top,of where the old pot belly stove used to be.

Now I have to find a good way to run the wiring up to that point....since I have 4 different heated items that I want to control individually, that means 4 individual hot and ground wires....the bundle is going to be pretty fat. I also want a cheap way to hook everything up in the cock pit....so I’m looking for ideas or suggestions on how to handle all this ...neatly.

I’ll have to hook up 4 different items into separate connections...every ride...the fat bundle will have to be there permanently.

Also what gauge wire would you run for each item...I’m going to be slicing into the harness that cane with each item.

    On page 487....

No where in the service manual does it say anything about front wheels being squared to the rear wheel. Not saying it doesn’t need to be....but why don’t they mention it? Doesn’t that seem odd?

And to center the steering wheel it must be removed.

@Reaper, can you answer the question in post 68?

Not an excuse.....I’ve had very short videos only a few seconds long that would not attach because they were too big...

First of all I have to sit down with him and have a discussion about the entire procedure. I’m going to show him some written info a video on the subject. And then I need to have his permission to film. I’m not on any social media and have no knowledge of where or how to post a video on the internet.

Can a video be posted directly to the forum?

The official Polaris alignment kit comes with a steering wheel holder....so is anybody using a steering wheel holder to do the alignment? After all the specs say only a 1/16” toe in per side...a tiny steering wheel movement will
    throw that off.

If for this example in “C” the front end needs to shift right 3/8” to be square with the rear wheel. Do you turn the green arrow adjusting nuts to extend the right wheel over (out) 3/8” to the right and the left wheel in (left) 3/8” and then adjust the toe in?

First of all is that correct or do I have it wrong?

Second, What effect will that have on the steering wheel?

The biggest thing about this whole issue...after I change the swing arms and get it aligned it will have to go to the dealer anyway to have the most secret item in the world.... digital wrench hooked up to adjust the steering angle..

Funny how they can print exact details picture by picture with every tool known to mankind on how to disassemble and completely rebuild the transmission requiring an entire chapter but tiny front end alignment details are strictly forbidden under penalty of death..

The front end adjustment only requires a few nuts to be adjusted a turn or two...unless you actually change parts..disassembling the transmission requires complete removal and specialized tools...not to mention all the safety elements required to jack up the vehicle, and removing it. Then the complete tearing it apart and putting it back together.

Can’t be any different than the out of alignment adjustments the dealer made when they changed the rack arm....which caused the premature tire wear on one side...

A few nuts a turn or two one way or another.... no disassembly, no jacks, no crawling under the vehicle...

    Things that make you go....hmmmm

One more thing...why isn’t there a true laser video of them doing a slingshot? And I don’t want the camera 40 feet away so you can’t see what he’s actually doing when he’s wrenching. He could be wearing a go pro...

Which brings up a good idea...maybe I’ll film my guy...

You mentioned the optimum word....trained ....I’m going to error on the side of....I highly doubt there are as many trained SS mechanics as you think there are...

My dealer sells tons of quads ..and probably snow mobiles....so I’m guessing SS mechanics are in the minority...could be why you can’t wait for your vehicle to be serviced/repaired..and that’s probably waiting behind all the new vehicle delivery preps..

I have 5 vehicles....the problem is ...no other drivers...

Reading everything that’s been on this forum....qualified SS mechanics...that actually know what they are doing...is pretty low. And most of us end up doing our own repairs because of that... I can learn on the job just like their mechanics...and I don’t have to pay shop time...may take me longer but it’s the price you pay for doing-it-right-yourself..

If the SS was around for 20-30 years with thousands on the road the situation would be much different. I highly doubt people that want to be mechanics are lining up saying I want to make a living working on SS..not enough yet to be the main bread and butter. I can’t blame the mechanics...they need to eat too...I guessing more people on these forums are doing a whole lot of maintenance and repair work themselves...why pay someone to guess or that knows as much as you do?

Let’s not forget the front half of the SS is a car with many of he exact same parts.

Granted the 3 wheel alignment thing is a bit more difficult. I don’t think it’s out of anyone’s realm once we can get a copy of the exact “secret” Polaris alignment procedure. And the correct tools.

Can anyone buy the Polaris laser alignment system?

So if the steering wheel is turned slightly left....which side is out?

What I would ultimately try to make happen would be to use his computer and a laser or two and or his targets...to line up the SS..

His set up is half a pit....the back wheel sits on the concrete floor ....the front wheels are on the racks over the pit...so two targets can sit on the ground beside the rear wheel.

I like watching people in cars they think are hot...until I drive by..I wear mirrored googles so they can’t see my eyes...they look....some ignore...some rev their motors and get on it...

I pass mustangs and dodges all day long.....they aren’t passing any cool slingshots..

I keep thinking to myself....you (they) could have bought something cool..k

It’s either a bent frame worn out parts or badly out of adjustment.....

One reason is he is right up the street from me...second, he’s been doing alignments for over 30 years. Third, I’m trying to pick his brain.... forth, nobody can get a walk in appointment from the dealer...you can not wait for any repair work you have to leave it...and just because you made an appointment to have work done...doesn’t mean you’ll get it back quickly...

They tell you drop it off Monday morning and Wednesday it hasn’t been touched yet..

I don’t have the luxury of dropping it off possibly for several days till they get to it..and trying to get someone to give me a ride to and from 30 miles each way...been down that road several times already...

That said, who knows if they actually have anyone qualified to do a laser alignment correctly? They are not going to tell you you just paid over $100 to a guy that just guessed at the settings...which could be incorrect since the day they changed the rack arm last year.

If I have to I’ll buy the true track alignment set up. I just spent over $3000 on a new phone, driveway sealer, washing machine, SS swing arms, and cell phone case....what’s another $2000...for an alignment?

That said, he noticed right away the amount of shims were different from side to side....

Check your SS and see what you find? The shims are on the top arms where they bolt on..

He owns a can am...so maybe we can work together to help each other out. and I’ll be watching his every move as close as I can get...

I plan on stopping in tomorrow to see when he has time to talk and watch a video of a can am being 3 wheel aligned...with the true track..

On a car he has adjustment points on the rear axle to make it stop it from crabbing...since the SS and can am have no rear wheel adjustments, the process is different. I want to actually see what nuts and bolts you turn to make the front line up square to the rear....and how you make the steering wheel straight again...in the Polaris garage...I can watch the service manager take phone calls...

I’ll be able to talk to him and ask questions...that alone could be priceless...maybe he’ll be convinced enough to buy the true track system....win, win...
