So when you adjusted yours, did you loosen the pivot shaft? Or just the nut on the end. I loosened every nut and bolt on the angle drive and it wouldn't budge. The only thing I didn't loosen was the pivot shaft itself.

Not really, you have to drill through the housing and make sure you get the exact center of the bearing. The only way to be sure where the center of the bearing is, is to measure from the outside edge of the housing to the side of the bearing that is already in there. I would like to think that the measurement is the same from one SS to the next but ,I really don't have much confidence that it is. Sorry for the long winded answer

Originally, there is no way to grease the axle needle bearings, or either axle bearing for that matter. The only remedy is to install a zerk on your own.
-
Here's is a shot of the grease zerk I added, as well as the cut down belt guard. I also threw in a pic where, hopefully you can see the metal flake in the paint job.

Yeah, it would have been so easy if they would have installed the zerk from the get go. But look at it this way, you get to get up close and personal with your SS. It's really not that hard of a job in the long run, and you get a little piece of mind. At least that's the way I hope it works out, lol

The part that helped my was removing the shock bolt and dropping the swingarm. That other BS of loosening bolts, nuts and lollipop s didn't work for me. There has to be a missing step in that procedure, cause I really tried to make it work
-
Well, when you get to that point, and if there is anything that I can do to help, don't hesitate to let me know

FINALLY!!! I got the miserable belt on. That's what I wound up doing, dropping the swingarm. It took longer to do this than it did to do the grease zerk and bearing. Thanks for all the help guys

I didn't plan on adjusting mine either. But after watching that video, well, it looked so damned easy
-
Thanks rydahog, that's the one that pisses me off! It looks like a piece of cake in the video, but unless there's a step that he isn't showing, I've done exactly as he did. Still won't bunge
-
Okay, I'll give a shot. I watched the Polaris video on the other forum, and of course for the tech, the whole angle drive unit just slides back like it's on a tray or something. Pisses me off!
-
So if I'm understanding you correctly, you don't loosen the angle drive when you do this on yours?
-
I'm trying to adjust the belt tension and for the life of me, I can't figure it out. The belt came off with the pulley when I replaced the needle bearing, and now I have to get enough slack to get the damn thing back on. I loosened both the bolts on the angle drive, backed off the lollipop nut and have removed the nut on the pivot shaft. It will not budge, and I'm afraid I'll brake something by prying too hard on the angle drive housing. Has anyone done this? Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks
-
Just out of curiosity, are you doing the grease zerk?
-
Also, once you have the pulley off, there is nothing holding the axle in. Cleaning the axle splines and the nut threads is easier with the axle out.
-
Yeah, the hole for the grease is there. I misunderstood what hole you meant and I was being a smart ass
-
Thanks @BryanL. It looks like I will need number 17 from that picture. My bushing should be fine. Does the bearing come with a hole in the center?
Stephen
That's were the tricky part comes. If you don't get the diameter exactly right, you'll have to start all over
-
Well, maybe my belt needs adjusting after all. Mine came off with the pulley.
-
It depends on what shape yours is in. My bushing was OK and so was Travis's. There really isn't much that can go wrong with the bushing. Unless the bearing was running dry, it should be good to reuse it.
