Hey Nels here and I'm over in long beach ca.
Looking for other sling owners to meet up and put together some events! Don't see too many around my area but I'm sure there must be some!

Lori and I are in San Diego. trying like crazy to plan a long ride into the mountains somewhere! Spring can't get here soon enough.

@'rabtech Thought you might get a kick out of this one. As a retired professor of criminal justice, I have been shooting prison documentaries for years. Got my SS and a go pro and decided "why not?" My first foray was SPRINGSLING in Irvine CA last spring. So you like squealing tires?

A few weeks after that, I did another video ride east of San Diego, into the Laguna Mtns.

I over-ambitiously bought the website SLINGRIDES.COM to try to get others to submit their favorite rides for posting; played a bit with it, then got drawn back into my "real" documentary work. I also sponsored a SLINGRIDES film festival; I even got kicked off of another forum, as they said i was spamming with my invitations to submit videos for the festival! Anyway, I got hundreds of submissions from 43 countries (using a different source). But alas. Not a single one included a slingshot adventure! even got some softcore stuff! ha. Still think it was/is a good idea, but needs some official force behind it. Always game to shoot good stuff! Thought you might get a kick out of it...Paul

if you're still wondering about VIMEO, it's a professional website for posting pro-style video files. Like Youtube, but better, and costs a bit for some of the bells and whistles that Youtube lacks. I use it for most of my stuff, although I also use Youtube. Here is a SS video I did last spring at SPRINGSLING in irvine, Ca. I have done a couple of others, as well. I am a retired professor (prison documentaries mostly) and have found it great fun to OVERuse my GoPro to shoot road files!

sorry. been gone awhile. A pic would not show much, exc. the illuminated dash, since the LED light is tucked up and under the dash lip that covers the displays. But trust me, please, the illumination is perfect! I use if from dusk to dawn, all the time, when driving. It's low enough not to be a problem. Also put another LED under glove box to illuminate the floor, on another button. Brighter or dimmer LED would allow for personal adjustment of brightness, to your liking. The LED wiring goes behind the dash, btw, and attaches to one of the unused "radio" buttons below my aftermarket radio. One of the other buttons is attached to the heaters on the seats. (thanks, PRP). Sorry no pic, but I don't know what it would show, except illuminated dash indicators. Is that what you wanted to see?

One MAJOR issue to consider is that Colo and Utah ALWAYS do road maintenance in summer. I drove through Moab a few years ago, using back roads, in a brand new black Nissan 300ZX. Road oil and tar completely ruined it. Took weeks to get that crap off. finish was never the same! Also, you can't plan on making good time on I-70, since they are always working on it in summertime. I used to go back to Ks every summer; what a headache. I'll look at your course on a map.

We're pretty open in terms of schedule. The one thing about Colo at that time is it will likely rain every day. so, might be good to take a break or two. I'll look at other places to see if anything is open for a small group in Pagosa or so. But I don't remember it being an easy course from Pagosa to Vail. you'd have to go up the eastern slope and then back across I-70. Or just do the utah route. also might be fun to come back through Flagstaff, where we might find some timeshare trades--or Phoenix, which would have plenty of really nice ones in July!

I have to look at a map and see what routes you guys are talking about. Might be nice to hit happy hour at someplace like downtown cafe in EC. they have $3 pints and $3 cheeseburgers from 3-6 M-F. we could lay out some maps and make some plans--or just eat and drink...

Thanks, buddy! Man, I checked on Vegas and Avon for my timeshare trades and NOTHING is left for the relevant weeks. the first includes July 4 in Vegas and everyone is sold out. And there is NOTHING in the Rockies for the relevant week for SSITR. dang, dang, dang. Only good news is that those film festivals in Colo. are in Sept, not July. So we could bring the SS. And what great footage we could get there!!! So, hey, is there a SS across America this year? I can't find anything. One of the things we had thought about doing was the SS lifestyle idea that we played with a bit in Irvine, but really get to know people, using their sound bytes over driving shots as they make there way on a big trip. Maybe we could do some of that on the way to Rockies? I think I have counted you, someone from El Cajon, and maybe one other interested in caravanning to Colo??? Is that right? BTW, thanks for that footage!

@Bugeater need to verify with my wife what days off she is getting to determine dates we are traveling I'll let you know

The Vegas detour sounds awesome. we're in El Cajon, too. It might also be fun to spend a few days in vegas on the way...I can get complete, furnished (incl. plates, pots, silverware) apartments at the beautiful GrandView Resort (at the S. end of the strip, next to Southpoint Casino; see online at: The Grandview at Las Vegas) for about $40/night, based on 7-night stay. Even if we stay only 3-4 days, it's still a deal! These rooms are $150 - $250/night on trip advisor in July. We could set it up so anyone interested in joining us would get their own 1-BR apt. We are looking into the same deal in Avon/Beavercreek about 1 block from SSITR HQ. But those rooms in Rockies go FAST! -- Paul Sutton (mugshot)

Hi SSer's; haven't posted in more than a year! How funny! Last summer, we stayed at the Wyndam Resort on the golf course/lake in Pagosa right near "The Buck Stops Here"!! We loved it! Get the fries: they use real potatoes! And the burgers are great! Also, go at happy hour, esp if you like PBR. That's the drink of choice up there, it seems. Also a nice italian restaurant right around the corner from the Buck. We bought "legalize marinara" shirts there for Christmas presents for friends. Should have gotten more.

btw, I am the guy who shot the 20-min video of the fun and games at SLINGSPRING in Irvine, CA last spring (2016). You can see that video (and likely, yourself, if you were there) at:

You can also see my video of the Laguna Classic, shot in the hills near San Diego, at:
    for more, pretty, SS roadwork.
And for you gear heads, there's one we did in Goodland KS, at my HS reunion, called "dragging main," all about old cars ...

So are you guys talking about the Rockies in summer of 2017 in this thread ??? We're still looking to do a LONG SS ride; missed the shot across America last year. But we're looking at a camper trailer and not sure what happens to our SS adventures if we go that direction! But also have film festivals in Denver and Breckenridge about that time, which would be hard to attend in the SS, with all the movie gear we have to take! dangitall. the choices one has to make to maximize retirement fun!

That's awesome. I'll share this with my engineer who will be doing the install. I have to make sure all of our mods don't get in the way of your hitch assembly! I appreciate the abundant detail you provided in your answer. you can email me directly with details of the beta install. I don't know if this forum lets us speak directly, so my email address is psutton@mail.sdsu.edu, where I would like to learn your dealer cost that I would pay, as well as shipping, etc. Meanwhile, I'll have my engineer look at the pix and video I have--to see if there are any glaring issues that we can't get around with our extensive mods. Glad you tied it all to the frame and not the weaker subframe. That was one of the issues he was concerned about when I asked him about designing something for me--ie, where to attach it!? the Bushtec goes up and under the back tail (presumably to the frame), but we have changed the gas cap (extended it out like on a car), so that might mess things up, as well--for both you and Bushtec. You, know, if you have good pics (Bushtecs aren't so good) of where your stuff attaches, I can know if we have a shot with yours or not without going through all the hassles of actually installing it. And, of course, your price...Thanks, buddy. I look forward to working with you and with your having great success with this. You've done your homework!

Yep, out there in the options section along with like and dislike icons is the "quote" icon. Go full quote or partial by editing the quote...

Ok. I see. thanks. But I am guessing this still puts the reply at the end of the thread and not immediately under the appropriate comment. here, of course, they are one in the same. But with passage of time, I am guessing the reply will always go at what is (at the time) the bottom of the thread. but this helps. Thanks.

Is there a way to direct a reply to a specific post? it seems that the "reply" button is found only at the bottom of a thread, AFTER all the posts. So, you (and the directee) have to address subsequent posts via naming the person to whom the response is directed. Yet, I am getting replies directed straight to me via email. so, how does that work? Sorry for the Newbie questions, but if it were obvious, I would have found it by my own self...

thanks, Jorge! I'll look forward to that Colo trip. That's exactly where we want to go with our Bushtec camper trailer. It's a bit larger and heavier than yours. But I fear I will still have issues with the install, given our mods that are already installed in about the only places we could put them (besides the amplifier and fabricated rollbar, we also have a re-routed gas filler line and a re-located license plate, light, and camera that fit right where the hitch looks to come out of the lower back end..? dangit.

Thanks Wolf. That shows me a lot. But one of the inevitable problems with mods is that they are often incompatible (unavoidably) with other mods.
In my case, I have my amplifier installed at the rear tip of the tail, where it is solid and waterproof. But that's where the hitch goes. I also have installed a roll bar that completely replaces the two black hoops behind the seats. So I have all kinds of things in the way of a Wycked install. But the hitch looks solid and rugged, for sure. Thanks for the video. And good work, RichArlt!

    Hey, Richarlt,

can you tell me why you opted not to have the lower arms on your hitch, similar to the one Bushtec sells? And what does your top arm attach to??? It seems like there would be a lot of sway pressure from side to side with such a long, curving arm, especially on curves...? You obviously did this for a reason. I am curious. Thanks.

I can't waste time reading anything in a two-word thread that isn't even grammatically correct! Really? And you are pontificating on the intelligence of the candidates???
For anyone who cares, it's POLITICS SUCKS. Politics is a singular noun, requiring a singular verb. It's first-grade English grammar, people. But it's so much easier to pretend to be smarter that others by character assassination and name calling. What a country.

Ok, Ross. I have put the link to VIMEO and it works now. but users have to click on the NAME and not the image to go to the video. That is NOT how it should be; but it'll do for now.
It may be easier to try to get youtube to behave, since my web builder "likes" youtube and offers an easier interface--supposedly! Thanks for the feedback. Hey, btw, where did you hear about/find the video? It hasn't been posted much, to my knowledge, and I haven't really "advertised" the site. I asked the PRP, Assault, Slingmods folks to put out the word, but I don't know exactly how they did that. Oh, and Slingking put up a link to my new site. Maybe that's where you found it? tricky thing, these networks. but good!

just check my site, and things run as they are supposed to! that's one problem with youtube. I can't logon as a different user than the guy who created and posted the video in the first place. will put the vimeo link next to the youtube link and see if it acts differently... Then, I may have to kill the youtube link altogether...

    damn. thanks! I turned off the AD feature, as it was causing problems! I'll check it out. YOUTUBE is problematic, whereas VIMEO is perfect. But YOUTUBE links up automatically, but then causes problems... )>;
