While we’re on that subject, is there a wiring harness available for the speakers? I have the one for power, but I don’t know if I will have to hack the wires myself. What about backup camera? 2019 SLR, removing the Ride Command head unit and replacing with a Boss double-DIN CarPlay.

All mounted, looks great, camera works great.. so naturally, I'm not satisfied with that. Noooooooo I gotta poke the bear. Looking into luggage racks, specifically the R&D set. They mount over the roll bars. Anyone have those, and how badly do they interfere with the ZZ mount?

I never learned to leave well enough alone...

Once or twice a year we drive from NH to PA to visit my mother. I avoid NYC at all costs. Ended up there once because I made the mistake of listening to the GPS, got stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, finally escaped near Newark NJ. (Our normal route takes us down the center of NJ.) Overall it added an additional 3 hours to what is normally a 6-hour trip. Nothing like arriving at your destination at midnight.

Finally got it all assembled. Pair of pliers made sure the screw is tight so the camera frame doesn't fall forward, and since the camera pops out the top of the frame I am not worried about needing to remove and replace the screw. Looks sharp. Thanks again, Kyle!

Gotcha. Was starting to think the same thing - maybe boosters don't use that connection because the wires would melt...

(I know, I sound like an idiot. Well, that might just be because when it comes to automotive stuff, I am an idiot. I fix computers. I deal with low-voltage electronics. Never had the time to properly learn how to maintain my motorcycles, regardless of how many times I said, "Okay, I am going to learn this!" So, I appreciate that you all are being so patient with me.)

The Slingshot is a lot more FUN when you have a FULL tank of gas!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad things worked the way we HOPED...

Words to live by. Thanks, everyone for the support. Now if only it would stop raining. To quote George Carlin, "If you don't like the weather, MOVE!" To quote New Englanders, "If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes."

Good news, I went for a short ride, and the Check Engine light went out. The error code message is gone, but was replaced with a message that said, "Put gas in it, moron." At least that one is an easy fix.

(I dunno why it kept saying Check Engine - I popped the hood, yep, the engine is still there...)

Sorry, I should have clarified that - I have a battery tender. Two, actually. The one you pictured, leftover from my motorcycle that had the pigtail permanently attached to the battery, as well as a universal charger that can do 6v as well as 12v with adjustable amp settings (it can do anywhere from a motorcycle battery all the way up to a marine battery.) I meant I need to find a jump starter. I have a Noco Boost Plus that I carry around in my car, which worked fine to jump the Slingshot but I had to clamp it directly to the battery terminals. I was hoping I could find one that I can just plug into the quick connect hanging out the back so if this ever happens again I don't have to get down on the ground and remove the panel. I did have a set of jump start ports on my list of things to add at some point, but I might as well use the pigtail the dealer put on it. Every jump starter I looked at so far has a proprietary connector that goes to a set of clamps, which is starting to make me think maybe I am not supposed to do that. (Like I said, mechanical noob here.)

My leftover 2018, purchased in 2019, also had the pre-installed charger lead. The dealer had it plugged into a Battery Tender Jr. I have everything plugged into it's own BTJ. The dealer had run the plug so it is behind the driver's seat. Handy spot.

I mentioned that to the tech, he said they install them on all Slingshots. Probably makes it a tad easier to trickle charge them over winter storage. Now I just have to find a battery jump booster that has that quick connect plug on it.

    2) a. Turn ignition on, let instruments sweep (don’t start engine) & turn ignition back off. Repeat 5 times.(Sometimes 4 times will do it)

Ah, yes! I thought I had read that someplace but then couldn't find the page again to verify it. I think that post said 3 times. But, any excuse to ride is fine by me.

I spoke to someone at HK Powersports to see if I could order the relay through them if it came down to it. He said the relay should not be failing on a 2019 and suggested the same thing that EJ and airoutlaw said - take it for a few short rides and the code should clear itself. (Sadly no DQ around here, but there is a place in Sunapee called Quacks that has awesome ice cream. Plus, duck.) So that's what I will do. Couple local trips to make sure I don't get stranded anywhere, and I'll see what happens.

    Thanks everyone for your advice.

Pull the battery and put it on the charger. Clean the battery post and cable clamps. Check the battery cable to frame ground. Clean if necessary.

Install battery when fully charged. Cross fingers...

terminals looked good when I jump started it but I’ll take a better look tomorrow. Connection to ground was solid.

It’s only a 2019. I’ll be pretty surprised (and pissed) if I already have failed relays. Thanks!

Battery is charged. I ran it for 20 minutes, went around the block, then shut it off and waited an hour before trying to restart it. All systems go as far as I can tell, but the error code is still there. So maybe the code will clear itself? Or should I swap out the relay just to be safe? (Sorry, mechanical noob here.)

A few days ago my wife took the Buggy out for a spin. She put it back in the garage, but put the key at the wrong position (one click past start - accessory?) and removed the key. I am guessing that the lights were still on, but she didn't pay it any mind because her Highlander turns the lights off by itself. (I told her, "Sure, the Slingshot turns the lights off by itself too, it just takes a lot longer.") I went out to start it this morning and got nothing, no lights, no warmup purr, no Ride Command, just the red light on the start button. I connected it to the solar panel trickle charger, but we didn't have enough sun in 8 hours to do any good. (Ended up driving to work in my car. Did I mention it rained for part of the trip? Is that irony or just dumb luck?) So, I looked up how to get to the battery (now I know why there are jump-start kits!) and used a battery jumper to get it running.

Two things happened. One, when I got down on the ground to take the panel off, I see this.

The dealer must have put a trickle charger on it when they stored it for the winter because there was no previous owner (2019 SLR, I bought it as a discounted leftover when the 2020 models came out.) It never occurred to me to even look back there when I was asking last winter about a trickle charger. At that time, I didn't even know the battery was back there. Not that it mattered much, I still would have needed the solar panel because there is no power in my garage. Well, at least now I have a different spot to plug in the solar panel when I get those heated seats.

It started right up once I connected the booster, but when I was checking the info panel for the battery voltage, I saw this:

I found an older post here from someone who had this problem, and it ended with replacing a relay. So now my question is, was it caused because the battery was deader than disco for two days, or is a grounded relay what contributed to the battery draining in the first place? I did not remove the battery, I just connected the clamps to each terminal to jump it. (The booster does not have a connector to fit the connector I found, but I will soon remedy that.) The last time I drove it was this past weekend, and there was no error. My wife said she did not see it when she had the SS out three days ago. (But then, she also didn't notice that the lights were still on when she parked it.)

Is the SS safe to drive right now, or is it grounded until I can get a replacement relay? I'm going to check the manual to see if it's something I can get at the local auto parts store or if I have to order one from someplace more Slingshot-centric.

The first bike was a Katana. Owned it for a year, decided it wasn't doing my back any favors, so I sold it and bought an ST-1100.

That got wrecked in 2016 by a guy in a pickup who decided Stop signs were for others.... after I got back on my feet I spent the insurance settlement on an ST-1300.

Unfortunately, I was too uncomfortable (mentally) riding after the accident, plus now I have a bad hip, so I sold THAT and got a 2019 SLR.

    I think I'm done now. :P

I was on Slingmods a week or so ago looking at sale items (tempted by the Pedal Commander, it's on sale right now) and started looking at luggage options. I compared the racks that mount to the roll loop vs. the Corbin bags that mount under the rear. My wife was looking over my shoulder and commented on how nice the Corbin bags looked, but I balked at the $3500 price tag. Today I started doing more reading on the Corbin bags and saw a handful of posts here saying the fit and finish just was not worth the price tag, complaints of blistering and cracking, people who had to "fix" the latch because it did not stay closed, the lack of waterproofiness, and poor customer service at Corbin. I mentioned this to my wife and jokingly said, "If you were planning on getting me those for my birthday, don't." She got an odd look on her face, then said she made an inquiry because my model color was not on the list. I remembered her saying that earlier this week she had taken the Slingshot out of the garage to take pictures of it "for a friend who also has one." (She also took it for a spin around the block - well can ya blame her? :D ) I am wondering if the pics were also for the inquiry, and she has one on order but now is afraid to tell me.

Most of the posts I read are from 2017-2018. Has anyone purchased one more recently and has a different opinion, or is it still "run away! run away!" I have a feeling I might be stuck with one in a few weeks...
