Bump to an old thread. This is just to show I really tried to look before I asked. I am now at the point where I want to winch SS onto my trailer. Looking for advice on where to hook it up. I'm actually using a manual winch almost exactly like one for a boat. It's rated at 2000 pounds. The winch is mounted 24 inches above the floor of the trailer. I have purchased two lifting strap slings from Harbor Freight. Thought behind that is two straps hooked to SS and then to one winch allowing me to pull evenly from both sides. Thanks in advance for any help.

I actually worked on modifications to trailer yesterday. After looking at EJ Fords gate, I didn't make mine longer but I did weld in extra braces to gate where the center of the front tires will be on gate. The tongue jack would not jack the trailer up high enough even if I put a block under it but Harbor Freight did finally get the ramps in that I wanted. Just as Boomer and BrianL suggested the ramps are perfect. I backed truck up on ramps. It was perfect. The ramps are super light and really strong. I realize I only needed a single axle trailer to haul SS but the trailer is dual purpose and I use it every single day for work and it must be tandem axle. Thanks for the input Slingshooter. I wandered about ass first or nose first. What do you connect winch to Slingshooter when you put it on ass first?

I am looking for suggestions for places to stay, eat, and visit in Maggie Valley. I have been twice and love it. Joey's Pancake House is a must. Had an excellent stay at The Valley Inn (really nice folks own that).

I have a long time customer that is a motorcycle guy. He owns an older BSA, a Norton, and a so on. I got he and his wife a pass to the Wheels Before Time Museum and am working on a gift certificate to Joey's.

They will be traveling over there in a car or SUV so motorcycle rides are out.

I am relying on the experience of some of the people on this forum to make this a positive experience for a valuable long term customer of mine.

Thanks in advance people for all your suggestions. The input of this forum is so beneficial.

FYI if it matters, he and his wife are in there 30's

I have seen a wide variety of opinions for this thread. I was once at a bike rally (back in the day, no more two wheels for me) and one guy said something about the other guys bike needing a bath. He replied, "it's not a trailer queen. I bought it to ride." To each their own. I am very happy with the company that details mine. I hope some on here can have the same luck I have if they so desire.

Alright. Who's interested? I am going to Clarksville VA first week of October. Can't wait. Be my first ride with other SS's , even though we've put 7,000 miles on ours in four months (not a daily driver, all on weekends). Allot of people on this forum are from 2 hoursish from Maggie Valley. We are as well. We've been twice and love everything about it. We really hate we missed memorial day in Maggie Valley but weather was just too bad (no top or trailer back then, that was prior to "Mod Flu"). Anybody interested in getting together a weekend between Clarksville and Halloween :?::?::?::?::?: If so, I'll repost in proper thread.

I watched a ton of Sam's videos before I even found this forum. Sam has helped me a ton and has no idea how valuable his videos are. My SS has never been to the dealer for anything. All right here in my garage because of Sam.!!!!!!!

We call em all "haters". The non wavers, the police, the Corvette drivers. Everybody wanna hate on a SS. Kids love us and they all wave. One waved at us and the mom grabbed his hand like we were the Hells Angels of the early seventies. We have one officer in Kingsport Tn that pulls over every damn SS he can. The only one I've seen in 6 states saying one word about a helmet.

I'm sure most of you folks detail your own SS and enjoy doing so. I did it at first but I can assure you I didn't enjoy it. Just not my cup of tea. I came across this company while I was out working. They will clean outside for $19.95 The inside for $29.95 or both for $39.95 :D They gotta make their money through route density and efficiency. At this price, they can have it. This company is licensed bonded and insured. They have code to garage and they cleaned SS in garage without rolling it outside. They dry cleaned it!!!! Don't know how. Don't care. They did a great job. I realize most fellow SS aren't near me and can't use this company but I wanted to create this post because I had no idea I could get this done this cheap. Just thought this might help someone search out someone in their area if they were interested.

That's an excellent idea. The worst part is the current four foot gate is a little short for even what I do. Mower decks drag just a little. I got such a great deal on it just couldn't pass it up. I think I am going to send an email to the manufacturer to see if I can purchase a longer gate. I am still going to get the ramps from Harbor Freight I'm sure I will be able to use them.

I am going to try all of the above in the morning. Heat and humidity is crazy here today. My gate is only four foot and I know that is making it difficult as well. I just use this trailer every single day for work and with the help of you folks on here I know I will be able to make it work. Once again, thanks for all the help and insight. Being on this forum has and is making the SS a much more enjoyable experience.

Bought a trailer today. Went with a 14' x 6'11'' tandem axle Lone Wolf utility trailer. Ordered gorilla lift for gate just now. Got a great deal. Local dealer was really fair with me and took my old trailer on trade. Trailer was only $2275 and he gave me $775 for my 18 year old 6'4''x14'. I am going to weld three more post in gate dead center of where SS tires ride on it. I have a mechanical winch from years ago that is rated at 2,000 pounds and I've already installed it. I will be building my own ramps for gate. I can wrap my wallet around the cost of race ramps but I just can't wrap my mind around it. That just seems a little much to me.
