I realize Trump had to cave and endorse ryan in order to provide some semblance of towing the party line but I think the u-turn on this one will come back to bite him in the ass at election time. ryan is a self centered, self-entitled douche-bag. Just ask anyone that has spent any time with this guy in real life. His politics are a pure reflection of his delusions of grandeur. walker, his partner in crime here in the great state of wi, has no intention of ever really supporting trump so I was just fine with trump giving both of these small minded imbeciles the middle finger. These two idiots are working hard to put my state back into the dark ages economically. Our public schools and public universities are being de-funded to the point that they will quickly become second rate institutions and only god knows where that money is actually going. The non-endorsement of ryan actually made me respect Trump a bit more at least until he decided to cave to party pressure.

Completely agree that electrics, specifically hybrids are quickly becoming a real option for many in a traditional commuter type automobile but my comments were targeting a toy like the SS or this proposed all electric three wheeler. When I take a trip in my truck or car I almost always have a very good idea just how many miles I am going to travel. When I take a trip on a toy, like the SS, my trips are often completely unplanned and head out for a day with no specific destination in mind. I also might cruise for the day or take off down a back road and push it hard which just makes an all electric that much less practical and less fun. Hybrids solve this issue but then add another layer of complexity that increases costs while really adding very little to fun factor - unless budget is not a concern and now we are talking high dollar exotics. Even the high performance Tesla with "ludicrous speed" option is a great gimmick but ask someone that has the car how often you really ever use it due to the fact that the batteries begin to overheat very quickly. You can make a couple of head snapping runs and then the nannies shut you down. Fun is over until the batteries cool off.

No matter how good pure electric technology is today its not good enough for me yet for use in any toy I would purchase and that's not even considering how much less fun an SS would be if weighed a few hundred pounds more. Just too big a trade off for me.

Would never consider an electric powered toy like the SS. Battery powered golf carts are a great example of going out for a fun spin only to run out of power just before you make it home. Limited range takes any and all fun out of something you use for recreation. I don't want to plan my trips around having to find electricity or wonder if there is enough for a round trip.....

A performance oriented version of a battery powered vehicle is even worse. Step up the fun factor. Drain your critical power supply even faster.

Finally had time to install my set today. Really nice improvement in ride and handling. Nice to have the ability to easily go from soft to firm with a few clicks. Of all the mods I have done so far these shocks are definitely the best bang for the buck improvement you can do for your ride.

It's a one hour ride each way for me to take the sling back to my dealer so this is the first opportunity for me to get it in since I took delivery in March 2015. Mine is one of the first batch of 2015 base models shipped. The dealer received it in Dec of 15. With my situation at home last year I did not get the chance to put many miles on. It has 4500 miles on it now as the riding has been good this season.

Here is what they are doing:

    Headlight wiring harness recall
Intermittent brake failure light - check brake switch

There are a couple of smaller items not worth listing but anything else I should have them do or check? Was going to have them flash the ECU but tech says there is no TSB listed for my VIN regarding the ECU. If someone has the specific info on that I would appreciate it as I would rather have it updated now in case I want to send it out to Bob for a custom tune in the near future. I have Alpha exhaust, Alpha CAI and 1320 header so a tune is the next logical step for NA performance mods.

My warranty will expire next winter prior to getting it out of storage and at this point am not too keen on spending the grand on the extended warranty that just leads to fighting with Polaris for coverage anyway. My take is to save the grand and apply it to the inevitable bearing replacement that's coming sometime in the future. I actually hope an aftermarket fix (other than the 4-wheel conversion) materializes that is a more permanent solution than the current factory setup.

    Thanks,

    JD

Top looks great. Good work on the design and making it look right. If you can achieve the goal of under a grand I would definitely be interested. Right now I have a problem with most designs being permanently mounted to the SS. Really like the fact that its an easy conversion back to full open air as that is my preferred setup but when my wife comes along or take my dad out for a ride longer than 20 min he would appreciate it as he has skin cancer and any sun is bad.

That is why we are here and not there!

Don't let them get under your skin, they are desperate to get some action in the dead zone.

This is great advice. I should know better but the launch of the 17's got the best of me and somehow in a moment of now obvious loss of cognitive function I inadvertently thought there might be something worth investigating.

Normally this type of ignorant post would not register but this morning it struck a nerve........ Thankfully all logic and reasoning quickly returned after reading through some more posts over here.

Let's see. I own enthusiast websites targeted at things people seem to enjoy. At least they enjoy them enough to slap down some hard earned cash, become a member of my website and frequent that site to learn and exchange ideas with mostly like-minded enthusiasts of said products. This generates the advertising revenues and cash I put in my pocket to feed my kids. What I then do is provide someone with a "staff badge" promoting this person as a representative of my organization. At times this person seemingly detests the products and services I am trying to promote and make a living from but the best course of action for me is to keep them on in hopes they will somehow connect with my membership growing revenues and increasing the value of my site. WTF?

So I have not been over to that other site for months and decided to see if there was anything information on the new release...... Instead this was about the third post I came across after browsing for less than 2 minutes....
While some may not like the price increases I was surprised to see a characterization made calling the SS a "mostly-made-n-China plastic toy". I cannot believe this Asshat continues to be connected to the site as a "staff member" posting up shit like this.

Thread title: "How do feel about the big price increases on the Slingshot"

    Quote: WI_Hedgehog:

The increased price isn't helpful if you want to buy a second one and
have two in the family, or if yours is in a collision and you want a
replacement. Parts for exotic vehicles are more expensive and that $300
oil change isn't going to go down in price. It's a light vehicle without
comprehensive anti-theft built in to the older models, which makes them
more prone to theft as the price goes up; your $23,000 oddity may not
be worth stealing, but your $40,000 ride is a different story--it may be
headed for a chop-shop near you.

It's also not good value for the money when your mostly-made-n-China
plastic toy is now $35,500 and the final drive is prone to multiple
failures and no real fixes other than replacement with more Chinese
junk. Fewer buyers means less aftermarket parts in an already small
market, and higher prices for those which are available. Higher purchase
price means less money for upgrades, and more money paid in taxes.

The new buyers won't be happy their front-end alignment is done with a
board, resulting in excessive tire wear and that odd steering we've
gotten used to. They'll demand a better shocks and steering on a $36K
vehicle, just as many demanded upgrades to the current model, and soon
it will be a $45K vehicle and your auto insurance is going to go up, and
you'll be complaining that money would have been better spent on
    replacement bearings.

Then someone is going to get hurt in their $50K Slingshot Platinum
Limited Edition and blame Polaris, who they'll say should have designed
[something] better for $50K. The government will get involved, new laws
will be enacted, the Slingshot won't be as fun, insurance rates will go
up, and it'll be a $65K replacement if you bump a tree when sliding off
the road in the rain. And if you don't think that will happen, look at
the requirements for airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control,
emissions controls--a $15K car is now $30K, and the Slingshot has to
skirt overbearing laws and be classed as a motorcycle just to exist.

I like the simpler times where we stood on the front bench seat in Mom's
car, horsepower was abundant, gas and insurance were cheap, vehicles
were big and fun, modifications didn't run afoul of layers of
regulations, drag-racing resulted in a warning (if that), people had
more money from their paycheck and jobs were plentiful. I wish the
Slingshot was still cheap and simple so the new guys could more easily
afford it, build it the way they want it, and if something happens to
mine I could replace it and build another without raiding the retirement
    account."

Price increases are great for everyone that already owns one and have to be expected. If someone is standing on the sidelines waiting for the new models to go down better find a new hobby. Same yearly price bumps have kept my RZR's resale values really good. Completely agree that this is good news from an investment in the brand perspective.

Still loving my base titanium and getting more limited as time goes by. Now with the price increases all the mods begin to look reasonable as well. I like the looks of the new top but still not for me and will not be adding a top anytime soon.

While Jack Rebney (aka Winnebago Man) did not become a monk, he did move into a secluded residence and eventually had health issues that led to blindness. If you haven't seen the documentary it's pretty good entertainment.... His promotional videos for Winnebago and associated outtakes are unmatched on the humor scale.....

Poo engineers seem to have issues understanding heat generation and dissipation in their vehicles. The SS is no exception as they ignored all the heat entering the cabin and now have the quasi heat fix. Our RZR 570's had recalls for wiring harnesses melting due to engine and exhaust heat and poor routing of wires. Maybe the engineers that are in charge of this area of design think everything is the same as a snowmobile?

Will also add. The reason college is a breeze is he already knows more than most of his professors (or should I say already knows the information in the level of class being taken) and was self taught. How you might ask? More waking hours learning on the web than sleeping and doing this no matter where he was located. Grandma and grandpa still do not have the internet so while with them cellular data was his only option. And that startup? Already offered him a job when he graduates. Starting pay is just under six figures. Connectivity can be a great thing.

This sounds good but it is shortsighted to assume every teen with a data plan is either using all of that data for purely social reasons or is up to no good.

My son is into technology. I know exactly what he was using all of that data for and because he knows tech has not only made a lot of money from his side businesses, since he entered the 7th grade, but will be graduating from college in three years with a bachelors in computer science. He has been working as a developer for a startup from his dorm room for the last two years making $25 per hour for 20 hours a week while taking an accelerated class schedule.

Maybe he is the exception but I am proud to say I enabled his "bad" habits of heavy data use.

If it helps I am 6' 1" and can just look over the top of my +3 if I am sitting up perfectly straight and want to look over it. Most of the time I am a bit slouched and actually prefer to look through the shield as I do not wear a helmet and this works better for getting out of the wind - and bugs.

Went clear because I have to wear eye protection, if not wearing a helmet, and I guess one could go with clear lenses but because most of the time I have sunglasses on would not want a double tint situation.
