I was originally going for the GM Cowl Induction look. When I carved one out of foam and set it on there it didn't look good at all. The lines didn't work with the lines of the SS. So I went with a more angular adaptation of the cowl induction. What you can't see is that the back is open and I have a screen covering it.

I would like to make another mold, but this time I would make it a three piece mold. The original was a one piece. If I make it three piece I can recess the vent screen and the whole thing would be much easier to get out. I could also make the screen recessed which would give a much cleaner look.

Right now I am still trying to get my sling back on the road from the crash. It looks like I have to do a complete repaint now, including swingarm, valve cover, wheels, etc. Anything orange. The pearl that was used is discontinued so I can't match the original color.

I wish I had more pictures. I wrecked my sling and I have no hood to mount it on. Fortunately the scoop was undamaged.

It's just an idea I came up with one day so I made mold and laid in some fiberglass. Unfortunately the mold was damaged on removal. I then had it hydrodipped. Not bad for a first attemped.. I have been thinking about making another mold if there was intrest

It would be interesting to see both tested to see what they would be rated at, similar to a torsion tube for racecars. Or even better yet, someone come up with mount and torsion arms that can be installed on an SS. That way you could easily change torsion tubes in a matter of minutes for track days, canyon carving, daily driving, etc. I can picture it in my head but don't have the resources to build parts. (OK, if anyone comes up with this, I want some credit for the idea!)

funinthesun as close as they have to jet fuel is the 118 or Methanol!!
MACAWS I've got Toyo 888's on the way in a 325 for the rear, didn't actually need anything to make my ass look bigger, though thought it was a must! Will see how they work out before I start keeping another spare laying around warming the bench, itching to get in the game. Was in hopes 93 pump gas would be sufficient as it goes from $3.95 per gallon for unleaded 93 non eathanol to $7.95 for 101 octane! Didn't realize Methanol was so inexpensive $2.95 a gallon...

I got 4k miles out of my R888 and it was toast. I am still N?A and didn't do to many burnouts. I would expect less milage. And at $400 a pop, they get expensive.

Nice looking trailer. What is the width between fenders? I am about 4 inches wider than stock so I have to be very careful with that. From the pictures it looks pretty tight for a stock width Sling.

Taller tires will do the trick, but there are issues with that as well, My speedo is 12% off so I have to constantly do the math in my head. I don't know of any way to change that. And since my gearing is so tall now, I rarely use 5th gear, usually only above 65-70. If I use it at slower speeds it is very sluggish since I am still N/A. I guess there is another reason to go turbo/SC.

Update. It's been almost 10 weeks now and we are still not back on the road. I have all the parts except for one, and it happens to be the first part I need to put on. It's the inner hood structure. I talked to Polaris yesterday. It is on back order but they were due in 3 days ago. They said they should be in by Friday. The bad thing is that they have 13 coming in and have more orders than that and she couldn't tell me where I was on the list or when more will be in. So I will either have it next friday or I will be waiting a lot longer. Cross your fingers.

Ha ! Went through my photos of the build and found some good ones for you guys. So its a big, dirty, old, shop press and we used some sockets that were close in size to what we needed. I later discovered that the larger chrome socket was a little to large so i found some small sections of pipe that worked much better than the sockets.
The smaller pipe is 3 inches tall, OD is 1.66, ID is 1.40. The larger pipe is still 3 inches tall OD is 1.90 ID is 1.65.

    Hope this is helpful!

I don't have ball joint issues but was going to check around today about removing the bushings to powder coat my control arms. I guess my questions are answered by Jeff's lack of donuts.:thumbup::thumbup:

I had a problem with a motor in the sprint car one night at Granite City. We had 20 minutes before the start of the feature. With three of us working in the back of an enclosed trailer, we pushed off for the feature with a new "bullet in the gun". With that said, it should have only taken you an hour to get this done. :D

FINALLY got the full estimate. Just over $9k to get her back on the road. Parts will be ordered Tuesday and we'll see how long that takes.

Just curious, does anyone know of any used parts out there? I am needing everything on the drivers side front corner. Headlight assembly, turn signal, fender, hood trim piece, etc.

Some good tips here. Once I get an estimate I will be ok, as long as parts are available. I can do the work, its just getting the parts.

As far as the estimate, nobody wants to do it "on the spot" They all want me to leave it for a few days. Seriously? I don't want to drive 200 miles, drop it off, drive home, and then do the same in a couple days to pick it up. Not only is it the cost of diesel, but the time off work too. I don't mind paying a local dealer for an estimate and I know I need at least $6K in parts, you'd think that would be enough.

Calling Polaris really wouldn't help much. I don't want to force a dealership to take my hard earned money, or that of my insurance company. If they don't want my business, I am happy to oblige them. It's just frustrating that so many of them are that way.

On a good note, I think I found a dealer that will work with me that isn't incredibly far. We'll see how that plans out.

My advice to the forum, don't ever wreck one of these things. Its been 3 weeks now and I still can't get anyone to write an estimate so I can get the ball rolling. My insurance agent tried for a week and finally threw up his hands and said "I give up", The local dealer said bring it in and leave it, we will get to it by the end of summer. That is just to write the estimate. Outside of loading it on a trailer and dragging it 200 miles at my own cost to get and estimate, I am screwed. I can see now I am definitely on the sidelines for the rest of the summer.

Glenarm Illinois, home of... well, nothing. :D;( Where the men are men and the sheep are scared.

Born and raised in Springfield, and still consider myself from Springfield since I am only 8 miles south, right on Route 66, er, I mean I-55

Even though my slingshot is dead, I still want to add my $.02. I put a Pioneer shallow mount sub behind the driver's seat. Sounds much better and I can still get a full face helmet in the compartment. It's kind of like a puzzle to get it in the right position, and you have to hold your tongue just right, but it works.

It's all bolt on stuff except for the paint and wrap stuff. Need a new center section of hood plastic and fender. Also hood inner structure. I think those will be the pain to get.

All that work. It just makes me sick. Al.ost 40 years of driving with nothing and I have hit 3 deer in the last year.
