Well I made it, but it was an adventure.

This was Yellowstone Park. It was wet, cold and miserable. An ominous foreshadowing of the trip.

The first thing I saw on arrival. Very impressive custom work.

Some of the attendees and their rides.

Garden of the Gods while the sun was out.

Some nice rides but often under clouds and sometimes rain/hail.

So, in the end this was not really a fun trip. It was cold and wet every day but one. But, the event was well organized and as always there were great folks there and we had fun even when the weather got bad.

The ride home was even worse, it got so cold and was raining so hard, both my wife and I were borderline hypo thermic every time we stopped for gas. We had never been through anything like this before (and we have driven through Banff park in the fall). It was certainly a learning experience. We will have more lightweight cold weather gear on hand, and I will be looking at see through, drop down visors on the roof to keep the rain and hail off my face.

I bought this last year but wanted to wait until after this season to install because quite frankly I was worried it would be a bear to install. It dropped right in without issue! Removing the old reservoir was however a nightmare. The bottom nozzle crumbled and bits of plastic dropped down the hose. I had to removed a few parts to ensure nothing remained in the system. Then once all the plastic bits were accounted for, I was able to re assemble everything and do the install.

Day 2 was the drive organized by Iowa Slingshot Owners through Custer Park and the Needles

Day 3 we visited the Sturgis, South Dakota Air and Space Museum and Bad Lands

Day 4 was a relaxing day, and a night time light show/drive through Deadwood. I will have to see about finding some video, but is was an amazing experience with crowds lining the streets and waving us by.

Well I am finally back and organized enough to update this thread.

The Deadwood rally is a great event, although it is not Slingshot heavy and the vendors that attend are heavily skewed towards the Can Am vehicles. It was announced that there were approximately 400 Can Ams in attendance, about 40 Vanderhalls, and about 22 Slingshots. I never saw that many of any of them but it is possible that some registered and did not attend, or attended only for a day or two. The biggest Slingshot group attending were the Iowa Slingshot Owners, and as they had attended previously they helped organize a ride for the Slingshots. It was amazing and we owe a debt to Marc and Amy for their help and hospitality

The rides throughout the area were breathtaking, the event was fun and well organized, and Deadwood is a great town to visit. I highly recommend this rally for anyone looking for a driving adventure, but not expecting too much organized activities.

Three wheelers lining up for a drive.

Some of the great Vanderhalls in attendance. The SD dealer was well represented and offering test drives too.

Day 1 was Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse monument, and we finished the day at the Firehouse Brewery.

What are the possible repercussions that will affect people? Things I can think of, I am sure there are more......

    - depression and increased suicide rates in young mothers

    - increased welfare and child services costs due to unwanted children that are now being born

I hope Edward Neal is right, and this is just saying this is not a federal issue and leave it to the individual states, but I somehow think it's going to be a sh*tshow.

FWIW there are a number of medical studies that show the exact opposite of your thoughts. Suicides and attempted suicides increase after abortion.

Also leaving the southern border open pretty much makes additional child service costs due to reduced abortions a drop in the bucket.

would he have been able to kill 19 though? Would there have been 30+ killed at a concert in Vegas? Would there have been over 200 mass murder events in the US in the first 5 months of this year?

it’s quite conceivable he could have. A hammer or knife in the hands of a monster would be devastating in a class of small children. A guy with a truck killed 89 people in France.
my point is not to minimize the gun but rather point out that without a gun an evil person still exists and is still capable of doing great harm. Let’s address evil not objects.

Well I hate to be too optimistic with the monkeypox nonsense, but it appears the border is open and the event is happening. We are going to make it this year!

Our intention is a trip down the west coast to visit family in Monterey, then a rest in Palm Springs, and a visit to the Grand Canyon, and finally a trip up to South Dakota. It should be quite the adventure (it has to make up for a couple slow years).

The other problem is that the press wants to make this about gun control. Their immediate solution is ban "assault rifles". I am always at a loss as to how that would change things. Yes, this particular killer at this particular time may have been affected. Or not. Nobody seems to consider that this kid was willing and able to murder small children. Assuming an AR15 was not available, does any sane person believe that he would have been incapable of murdering a large number of small children without a gun?

Magically removing all guns from the world would still leave these evil people behind and they would always be able to cause misery. Not taking a real hard look at social, societal and mental issues is criminal. All the politicians are running around spouting off their simplistic solutions to what is a complex and serious problem.

looking at this I would suggest you really clean that belt and the pulleys - -looks to be very very dusty and dirty and I have found that every time my belt and pulleys get dirty that's when I get the squeal under load

    This.

I rarely take my SS onto gravel roads but after I do the squealing is horrible for a couple hours or so. My wife gets really embarrassed by it. On longer trips this is an issue. Close to home I just wash it off. I might start carrying a can of belt dressing on the road. Many have reported good results using it.

I wore a 3/4 helmet with full visor for a couple years. It was pretty useful in rain/sleet, but it got very hot in the nice weather and when I started using ear buds more often they became a real (literal) pain under the helmet.

I just bought a Voss 1/2 helmet with a drop down visor which I think is a good compromise in bad weather, and the setup works much better with ear buds in.

My wife and I have done quite a few 2 week trips using only the stock storage.
We each have two pairs of lightweight pants and shirts and a third pair of “dressier “ clothes for events. Then some toiletries and SS maintenance/ cleaning supplies.
We do a load of laundry at every overnight stop we can.
We added a roof to keep the sun off and bought a couple insulated water bottles to keep our water cool.
i have recently added storage units just behind the front wheels but it is mostly because we like to do some gift shopping when traveling and we needed space for the added stuff.
