this thread got me to thinking that my old CF half helmet was getting kind of grungy - With our warm/hot weather its the one that gets the most use and abuse. after three fun summers of sweat I figured it was due to be replaced so I just picked up this Daytona Skull Cap in Black Cherry - - wife says it goes better with the red sling than my other helmets

    Edit to add

In almost 4 years with the exception of one day trip to a slingshot event in Fallbrook (for which I bought a top) my wife's participation in the Slingshot has been limited almost exclusively to rides to cruse downtown on warm summer evenings after the sun has dropped behind the mountain.

I have also decided that instead of installing the top again any future trips I might talk her into will be setup so that we travel with going and coming times to keep the sun low in the sky behind us

If you spend any time riding in the rain you'll understand why I want a rear fender. Wetter from the rooster tail than the rain coming down.

I drive in the rain a few times every year - in fact it was supposed to rain today, but so far it looks like I might stay dry - - anyway I have never noticed any problem with water from the rear wheel getting on me - light rain, heavy rain - - never been an issue

perhaps I have been spared by having first a very low windshield and now double bubbles - - wind flow might help

Precisely. Also saw that with "fire safety tax" "support our schools tax" and many others in my years in CA

I think the biggest fraud that California has pulled on the people is the Lottery - - I remember back before the State had any involvement in any lottery at that time our schools were some of the best in the nation. When they started pushing for a lottery the big sales pitch was that all the money would go to make our schools even better - - - - well here we are many years latter and California takes part it just about every lottery there is, and millions of Californians take part and spend billions of dollars - - - and our schools????

Some of the lowest ranked in the nation - despite multiplying the amount of money available that money has done nothing to improve the quality of the students education - - I'm sure they spent it - probably on participation trophies and multi lingual education, free lunches & God only knows what else, but whatever it is - - it hasn't helped make anyone better educated - if anything it has been the exact opposite

although I am sure it has provided many many redundant government jobs for the various departments needed to waste so much money

I didn't look at it that way that big tire back there is impressive. I liked the looks of the storage compartments they once made for back there but understand they were hard to get them water proof. I see no need for a rear fender other then adding a little color back there. Looking at a sling from the rear it just looks like a black hole making it hard to see from behind. From my motor cycle days of wearing day glow orange I like to be seen on the road.

interesting, I work with an older lady who lives at the same end of the valley as I do. In the past there have been many days when we have taken the same route up highway 111 heading home. She is the type of driver that likes to stay in the center lane and drive exactly the speed limit and as such even if she leaves work before me I often end up passing her and driving the slingshot in front of her. The first time this happened after I got the slingshot the next time I saw her at work she was very excited to see me and to ask me if I had ever seen what my slingshot looks like from behind when its being driven - - of course I told her I hadn't bothered to get out when it was running to look - She then proceeded to tell me how the tail lights were the most amazing she had ever seen, no way you could ever miss them and the most visible vehicle she had ever driven behind

It has been almost 4 years now, and I have to admit I still havn't bothered to get out of my slingshot when its running to see what the tail lights look like, but if Barbara is to be believed visibility to other drivers should not be problem and that black hole we all see when it is off is apparently very well lit when running

    527k deaths?

So you blame Trump for the virus?

So do you give him credit for operation warp speed and the vaccine or in your world is everything always hate motivated?

must really suck being so full of hate - rotting from the inside as you seem to be

the problem I see is that here in California they add taxes to gas they say are to maintain the roads and then they also add taxes to your car registration that they also say are to maintain the roads

and then - - they dont maintain the roads!!!!

If these idiots had to actually be accountable for the money of ours that they spend they could probably reduce all of these damn taxes

okay final update on my personal experiences with the Pfizer vaccine:

First shot virtually no side effects except a slightly sore arm near the injection site - this was so mild that unless I poked myself to check I really didn't notice it much

Second shot the only noticeable side effect was again a sore arm, this time though it was much more pronounced and after about 12 hours it hurt to move the arm - definitely noticeable, but not enough to stop me from doing anything involving the arm and now almost 24 hours that has subsided to the point where moving the arm no longer causes any discomfort and the sourness is hardly noticeable.

So all in all for me neither shot was much different than a flu shot or any other vaccine I have ever received (not counting the old school tetanus shots in the 60's those suckers hurt!)

anyway - to anyone concerned about side effects from this I would say not to worry - from my personal experience not a big deal and from what I have heard from others only rarely much of an issue

    update

well, its been roughly 12 hours and like the first vaccine the only noticeable side effect is a sore arm ------- I will say it is more pronounced that it was after the first shot, but still no big deal

twice in my Slingshot and at 70 plus MPH I have been struck in the head by flying objects, One time by a rock kicked up by a vehicle in front of me and the other time by a huge June bug - - either of these would have been very painful at the least or could have caused my to wreck had I not been wearing my 1/2 helmet

In the slingshot you may not be at risk of falling off like on a 2 wheeled motorcycle, but there is no doubt that your head is much more exposed and open to injury than you are in a car or truck, especially if like me you like lower windshields you can look over

In the past there have been several times when I have seen debris in the road get thrown up by the tire of a car or truck right into the windshield of the car behind it. I personally have been in cars where once a lug nut was thrown into our windshield and another time her a 1.5 foot long chunk of a 2x4 was thrown into the windshield in either of these situations had it hit me in an unprotected head it would have probably killed me - especially the damn lug nut

every time you see something laying in the road, a rock, a tool, some piece of junk - - that is something that a tire could kick up and fire like a bullet right at your head and in a slingshot the very freedom and exposure to the wind and air that we all love means that projectile won't have anything to slow it down with the possible exception of a helmet

Now - as to the seatbelt issue, I installed a lap belt in my slingshot and do not normally use the shoulder belt as such my head should not snap forward at the neck like it would if my shoulders were restrained - - also I don't think the forces that I might be subjected to in most normal accidents would ever come close to the forces that race car drivers running at the 200 mph plus speeds would experience in an accident

Anyway if you don't want a helmet that's your choice and I respect your right to make that choice - I just hope everyone that does make that choice does so knowing everything that a helmet might protect them from, and not just thinking helmets are only for fall protection

To be really 100% honest as far as the vaccine goes I care more about protecting my wife, kids & grandkids than about protecting myself.

Seriously if I get sick and die that's one thing, but if I were to get the virus and then bring it home to the people I love and then to lose one of them - - - - Oh Hell No!! Not if I Can Help it!!!!

Fortunately from what I have read studies done in Israel are showing that there is almost no chance of a fully vaccinated person transmitting the virus to others :thumbsup:

Excited to get my second vaccine out of the way this coming Tuesday:P

You know - even after I get my second shot this coming Tuesday I will continue to wear a mask when out in public around other people - - Probably not necessary as the odds are it would be very hard for me to be transmitting COVID if I dont have it and cant catch it, but other people wont know that I have been fully vaccinated. wearing the mask Just seems like the courteous thing to do so that others can be a bit more relaxed.

One thing I would like to add that I find very interesting about the mask debate - - the people who go to stores and then bitch and throw tantrums when they are told they have to wear a mask and scream that its their right not to wear one if they choose - - - don't these people realize that business are private property and that the owner of the business has the right to require masks? - - do these people actually believe that their rights are more important than the rights of the business owner or the other people in that business?

I think one of the most discouraging things I see so often in the current state of this country - - people that think they are all important, that the only thing that matters is what they want and everyone else can just F-off - - - - seems like huge numbers of members of our society actually believe they are somehow more important than the person standing next to them
