  • Defunding the Police

    Edward Neal let me tell you, in most jurisdictions cops don't "patrol" they are completely call driven these days. Cops are told today that " there were calls holding when you came on and will be go home". It has been this way since the land bust in the late 80s. When I started we had 6 sectors, each divided up into 10 districts each staffed by one officer. Officers had ownership of their district and took exception to crime occurring in their district. In the 90s they tried to split the sector up in to 4 large districts staffed by 2 officers each. This was disastrous . No one had any responsibility. We finally got it switched back but by then we were so understaffed that we could only cover half the districts and officer were still just going call to call to call. We tried to go to the public showing them how many districts were uncovered. The city response? We went back to 4 districts so the city could say there is an officer in every district. When I started we did have time to "patrol" and yes we did catch a lot of people in the act. I'm afraid that is a lost art now. I don't think we can ever get back

  • Full Price for 2020 R

    I put money down on a 2015 before the laws in Texas were changed to allow it. I did this I May of 15 and was told I would get mine in September. I did pay full price less the Dilivery fee. I July called and told me mine was in but there was a minor problem. They ran out of 15s so I got a 16 for a 15 price.

  • Conservative Politics & Daily Events Discussion

    Unknown if it’s true but it is being reported that she was in uniform,(seen on video) and had just completed a 15 hour shift! That’s a long day. I have pulled a couple of those and I was stone cold sober but totally exhausted. My mind was not working right. If true I can see a case being made against the department

  • Phone Scams

    A couple of years ago I got a call with Jamaican prince scam. You know I have millions of dollars I have to get out of the country and I will give you 10% to use your account. Just send me to wire him $200 to put it into play. I kept this guy going for over two weeks. He would call, where is the transfer? I sent it, here is the address, here is the tracking number. They must have given it to someone else, go make them give it to you. Finally after a couple of weeks I got bored with it. When he called I told him, look, there is no wire, I know this is a scam, I’m a cop and quit calling and hung up. He called back and cussed me a blue streak, I just laughed at him.

Mental Health officers spend a lot of time training for these evaluations. And I will add one thing that should scare the HELL out of you, in Texas, ( I don’t know about other jurisdictions but I bet most states are the same), ANY peace officer can commit ANYONE to a mental facility for a 48 hr evaluation. All he has to do is fill out a form and drop you off at a psyc ward!

    “MY” answer would be “Your honor I have a 4 year degree in criminal justice which includes over 12 college credits in abnormal psychology. I have 30 years of experience as a law enforcement officer with more than 120 hours of training in psychological evaluation of mentally challenged individual in determining if someone is a danger to themselves or others. In this case this individual was of concern to me about him hurting himself. He is not in the past been a cutter so in my professional opinion if I removed the firearms from his control, he would be reasonably safe for the the night till he can see his doctor tomorrow.

    Well I understand what you are saying Bill. It is a scary situation, in the cases I was involved with the individual was not to the point of a commitment but we making comments that gave us concerned. To the best of my memory none were female. None turned into a lawsuit.

    We it depends on what he sees, and what his level of experience is at the time. The first time I did it as a young officer I was very nervous about it. As my time went on I became more confident as to when to seize and when not to.

    Bill we as cops have been doing this for years in Texas. No often but before we had the ability to do involuntary commitment on someone that we saw as a danger themselves or others, we would come in ask the right questions and if we got the wrong answers we took all the guns in the house and they went into the property room. They could claim them after 48 hrs, if they could convince a detective. If not he would have to go to court to get them back. I was always surprised we didn’t wind up in court but in 30+ years it never happen.
