Meep. Depends on how you define "good"....
Lol - ok true that! Well without counting the ways one can get into mischief ... I meant "good" as in standing up for what one cares about. Whatever trouble a person gets into beyond that... well, I make no comment!
The reason I even pull that site up anymore is because I just have a fascination with the complete lack of leadership over there. It amazes me how the users over there can't see it. The Chinese post are still on the forum. That means that no one has cared at all about that place since 2:30 am.
Always good to keep tabs on what others are up to... that said, I have never checked out that forum - but after all this, I feel there is no need. Also feel pretty lucky to have chanced on the good site first.
Display MoreI will offer some advice to that forum and maybe someone will grab the steering wheel over there before it's all lost. (Remember guys and gals we still need people to go there first and then come to our site after they find out how bad it is over there... )
1. Till you get this under control TURN OFF AUTOMATIC EMAIL REGISTRATION AND HAVE AN ADMINISTRATOR APPROVE ALL NEW ACCOUNTS. This will stop the automatic registration of bogus accounts...
2. If you don't have the ability to block whole countries you might as well pack your bags and stop being a forum. Unfortunately you will have to block most of Asia and India. These attacks can be stopped by simply blocking most other countries. Remember it's just a script that is randomly run against all forums. No one picked that forum. They just were the next one on some asshat's list to hack.
3. GIVE SOMEONE YOU TRUST COMPLETE ADMIN ACCESS SO THEY CAN IMPLEMENT THESE MEASURES AND CLEAN THAT SHIT UP WHEN IT HAPPENS!
.....One last thing..... I won't say who it was on that forum that said something like "being a moderator is a thankless job" and "it's a holiday and the administrators are not at work" or somthing like that..... Ross that wasn't directed at you.... I understood what you meant. The comments that prodded me were from the other forum.
We have people on this forum that have the title of MODERATORS but they don't have to do anything... BECAUSE THE FORUM MODERATES ITSELF. IF You are spending time deleting post and arranging threads you apparently have a content and rule issue.
AND Administrators DO NOT get to neglect any computer related issue. I am on call for my job 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I check in on this forum at least 10 to 20 times a day and still work for 40 to 50 doctors and other professionals. They would fire my butt in a heartbeat if I neglected them over a holiday....
I'm good friends with a few "you shouldn't be doing that with your computer" folks ~> lol, actually their a bunch of retired DEF CON/Blackhat misfits who love chess and porn... BUT, they are super smart, clever and live for the hunt! "IF" it did happen here, I'd be furious and the chase would begin!
Sure, I may be an angel most days... but don't mistaken my horns for a halo holders ~> I love and will defend our forum/family ~> fighting fire with fire if necessary!
Those are good friends to have! And I have no doubt you would be a force to be reckoned with should hackers attack here... In the very short time I've been here, @ericastar76 you have struck me as a good woman whose bad side I wouldn't want to be on!

Congratulations @Ruptured Duck on starting your own business! I know it's no small feat but can be hugely rewarding. Sounds like you have solid support on this journey. Best of luck. I'll spread the word and if there's anything else I can do/help with let me know.
This is where the Wife just did the right thing. She kicked me in the ass and just went and got one. In other words she just told me to "PUT UP or SHUT UP!
Sounds like you married a great woman!
I just want everything to work like it should. Kinda like the Slingshot.....
If I can help just let me or anyone here know.
Clearly I've found the right place. Weeding through the mess that is the internet, it can be challenging to find people/companies/etc that are actually there and willing to listen, help and make changes if necessary (instead of simply ignoring you or making nasty comments). - and glad to hear your forum has not been hacked by spammers!
Srsly tho... 4 bags of mulch, 2 of mortar... pretty impressive how much can be hauled in the SS.
Hahahaa @Slunglow! Now that is awesome
Welcome @SlingLow (great name btw, surprised it wasn't taken!). I came across this forum not long ago and everyone has been super friendly and there's a ton of great info and mods to check out - not bad for a bunch of self-proclaimed oddballs
Np @Ruptured Duck! I would have followed up sooner, but I didn't get the notification in my email. I'll rely on checking in here instead.
@MoraiMotion The high speed versions trade off speed for pushing (weight) force. What is the highest lift rating for the high speed versions?
@Ruptured Duck doesn't sound like the high-speed versions we are working on will fit your needs. The info I have so far is that they will have a speed of 44mm/sec (1.7 in/sec) with a force of 1.6 lbs. Also it will still be a few months until they are ready. (a few parts on back order). What is it you're trying to do?
Wow, @'lrobbie' those mods are siiiick! That hood looks so freaking amazing! It's great that you document everything so well... I like seeing the progress of it all coming together (not just the before and after). Excellent work!
@WOLF they are not programmed to stop at intervals, but yes, once you kill power, they will hold position - wherever that may be. The stroke can be adjusted using limit switches or microcontrollers.
Hahaha @Bill Martin - you and me both!
Thanks @MiM ! When you say "alignment" do you mean because the area to lift the hood is tricky? Or another issue?
For us, with regards to designing actuators, the issue is always to make them small enough, yet fast and powerful at the same time.... that is the goal. The other issue with electric actuators is not matter what you do, they never extend/retract at exactly the same time (close, but no cigar - the struggle is real)... which is where Hall Effect sensors come in, but that can get rather techy. I'm working on an instructional vid on that in the next cpl weeks.
Not sure but I imagine 50 - 75 lbs - saw a motorized one way back but it never did catch on - musta been problems with it
Hmmm... I wonder how many others would be interested in that. It is difficult to get that much power in such a small actuator. We'd likely have to design a larger inline version or one with a planetary gearbox to increase the power abilities. I'll bring this up with the team though and see if it's something we can make in the near future. Thanks for the suggestion.
Bwahahha @Tripod (fitting name under the circumstances!) - well we do have fun 'round here joking about shafts, strokes and thrusts lol... definitely not PG rated
