Here is some follow up. I emailed MadStad a week ago with my concerns about their product and included my contact info but haven't heard back from them. Guess they're busy over there. On an interesting note the other day I met up with a fellow sling brother and it looks like my shield is half as thick. Maybe that's why mine flexes so much. Do they make their windshields in different thicknesses? I don't see an option on their website.

Thanks for all the replies. Gotta do something, and I ain't payin silly money for a sling cap.

Any of the local crew stocking a spare? For me?

Here is what I just bought. Should get it in a day or so i'll post up how it works. can't beat $35 for machined billet. Amazon.com: Polaris RZR XP1000 Gas Cap Billet Machined Black / Silver (Available in Many Colors): Automotive Just found this locking one for those looking, reviews say it works on the sling. Amazon.com: BRP 860200387 Black ATV Lockable Gas Tank Cap: Automotive

6' and I sit all the way back with seat reclined as far as it will go ( a click a guess) and I run the 9" lt grey. I see over it well by a few inches with it raised all the way up. I wanna say I see about 15 feet of road directly in front of the sling when I look down though the windshield if that makes sense to you. I love the ability to be able to lower it for colder weather. For the most part I really like it. The only two issues I have are, I tried tilting it back fully to get more air and it whistled pretty loud, but I haven't tried adjusting it to see if there is a sweet spot that will give more airflow and not make noise. More concerning to me is that at highway speeds it flexes quite a bit on the front between the center support and the side brackets.

I have set the cruise at 100 mph on I-26 coming home in Oct. just to keep up with traffic

I find this conversation interesting. I usually cruise at about 112 kph which is essentially 70 mph. I set my cruise and have no issues with keeping up with traffic or overtaking. When I pass, I downshift, pass, and reset my cruise.

    I haven't noticed a loss in power.

I don't think my sling will go over 100-105 in 5th gear.

Attached are pictures of the install. I watched the mechanic use the instructions in the kit and measure exactly as it was stated. After drilling the holes he went and compared to a 2016.5 model and noted the bumpers were installed in a different location. (as shown) The hood closed and opened very easily. The instructions placed the short bumpers near the windshield and the tall ones over the fenders. With the new bumpers installed the fender (hood) sat up about a quarter inch in front of the mirror. I tried swapping the tall ones and the short ones and that made the hood higher than the dash by about 1/2 inch. I then re-drilled (1/2 inch drill bit) the fender bumpers in the area where the 2016.5 bumpers were mounted and the panel alignment was great.Short bumpers near the windshield and tall over the fenders. This worked for me. I am not upset with the mechanic because he has done great work for me in the past.

Thanks that is what I was wondering as my center section of the hood sits about 1/2"low. I need to figure out how to install the top bumpers with the Madstad I guess?

Hypothetically speaking, Say your running 4600 rpm in 4th gear on long flat open road and put her into 5th gear is it normal not being able to hold the speed your traveling at and actually start to slow down while in 5th gear?

On my 2016 1/2 I have (had) the new style bumpers. I am running the Madstad so the center bumpers are gone. While I have no issues with the way the hood functions the center section it is lower then the dash. Is everyone's hood even all the way across? Also I have heard with the new style hood bumpers without the center plate there may be clearance issues when running a cold air intake.

Just got back from a ride with some other forum members to Cycle springs to show Noel some support from the SS community, his main concern was that EVERYONE was aware that the shop is OPEN for business,,,it seems that according to noel a few people think he is CLOSED from the Fire issue...That is not the case..so he ask us to please pass the word that they are in fact OPEN FOR BUSINESS! lol
we had a look see at the fire damage and as you can imagine,,terrible loss, but Ins. is working with him.so that is good.
A few of us went to lunch afterwards and had nice time with regular SS chit chat and comparing ss mods..:) thanks for reading.

Nice ride over from my end of the woods. Sure beat working on the honey do list! Great seeing everyone and the burger, cold beverages with you guys only added to the day. Yes they are up and running so just give them a call if you need anything. As usual Noel was a class act, giving advice even handing out T-shirts to the gals. I can't wait to see what the re-worked place will look like.

True it is a pain but if you analize, think and prepare and the first question...... DO I HAVE THE RIGHT TOOLS!
    This can be done.

I see our friend came through. Nice work, now I want one!

I bought a base about a month ago too. I put on quite a few miles without the shield and it is a much better and safer ride with it. I'm 6' and I went with the 9" madstad. I like that fact that it adjusts 2"s up or down with thumb screws. So far I am very happy with it. I went with Lt grey tint because I was more concerned with being able to see at night then the dark tint look. That being said I have heard you can buy just the shield from them for around $130 so when the boss allows I might pick up a dark tint 7" for blasting around on hot summer day trips.
