More rattlecan projects. Perhaps not quite as nice as powdercoat, but a whole lot less spendy!!!
-
Here are some pics.
-
I used caliper paint. Did it about 6 months ago. Still looks great. $15.
-
Right side installed. I’m thinking rather than red they should be either body color (gray) or semi gloss black. I’ll give it a few days before a final decision!!
-
More progress. After the paint dries, I will install and take pics. But only if they look half decent! So far, $18 in “out of pocket” costs. In the first two pics, the aluminum angle mounting brackets can be seen and are installed using pop rivets. The upper ones will be attached using screws into the underside of the black plastic below the headlights. The lower ones will (reluctantly) require drilling into the bumper/spoiler for attachment.
-
I made the straight cuts in the aluminum using plunge cuts with my Ryobi One+ circular saw. It easily cuts aluminum up to 1/4”. The shorter ones were scored with a 4.5” mini grinder then bent to break the metal. Used files to smooth things out. I agree. DIY is cheaper and rewarding. Spending $500 for plastic or fiberglass pieces does not work for me.

Progress. Trim colour goes on in the morning. The view is of the back (tire) side.
-
The project continues. First pic is of the 1/8” aluminum frame, second is the bbq grill I used as filler. Wanted the mesh type, but couldn’t find it locally (Amherst, Nova Scotia). Third is with the filler panels in place, held using construction adhesive. Once dry, the inside (tire side) will get a coat of black rubberized gravel guard while the visible outside will get a coat of red.

I do not have punches or stamping equipment that make louvers.

It is early in the project, but it looks promising so far. Once again, using odds and ends in my shop along with dollar store things. Will post more pics as it progresses. Using 1/8” aluminum. The X’d areas will be removed and filled with a mesh material designed for cooking fish or veggies on a bbq grill (the Dollar store items). They will be attached to the tire side of the piece using a bead of construction adhesive. The adhesive will squish through the mesh and then can be smoothed to look half decent (I hope). When everything is dry, it will get a coat of rattle can red to match my other trim items. Mounting bracket fabbing will also start tomorrow! Trying to keep it simple. If it looks reasonable (it’s hard to compete with our various SS vendors), I’ll post more.

Hey EJ! Sometime I will dig out the warranty docs. Never know - perhaps I was charged a fee in error!
-
Re deductable - I bought the extended warranty as part of a Polaris promotion when I bought my new SS from a dealer. But I guess I do not know the actual provider.
-
Polaris corporately seems to have little interest in building long term relationships through providing above-and-beyond customer service. So a Club Slingshot has absolutely no appeal to me. This forum and another I am a participant in (Central Florida Slingers on Facebook) provide lots of really helpful info, assistance and ideas. And camaraderie too although often it is via posts rather than face-to-face. My Polaris corporate experience today dealt with my dealer’s effort to obtain a refund from Polaris for the $50 deductable (using my extended warranty) I spent about a month ago to get my brake sensor issue fixed. Since then Polaris issued an advisory about fixing the issue at no charge. But to those of us who paid in one manner or another to get the brake sensor fixed, we are SOL. But while I am whining about Polaris’ decision, I offer kudos to Noel at Cycle Springs in Clearwater for initiating my claim without my asking them to do so, and then his calling me this morning to let me know of Polaris’ unfortunate decision. The $50 really doesn’t matter. But Polaris could and should do better.

I live near the NS - NB border. Let me know
-
EJFord - or else install heaters and wear parkas!!
-
Rockland, Belfast, Camden, Mt Desert (Bah Habah), Machias, Eastport, Lubec, etc. All great villages.
-
KayTwo - will be overnighting near Augusta Thurs night. While we will be on I95 this trip, US1 along the coast is a fav MC or SS route.

Had a great winter in Florida and met several fellow SSers. Saw some folks running at Jumbolair. Many more at the Slingshotsonly event in Sarasota. And some rides with CFSers. Thanks to all! But summers in NS are great too, and we look forward to more great rides there. On the road now!!

Seats were checked at Cycle Springs yesterday. I’m good!!! They also did a service on my brake warning light issue. Replaced two sensors. Under extended warranty. I need to add every time I have had an interaction with Cycle Springs in Clearwater I leave thinking “why can’t every business look after its customers as well as they do??” Seriously.
