Display MoreBikerndiver here are the instructions I wrote to remove and replace the rear panel for installation of the diamond-plate rear-protection plates I used to make for the Sling. Don't know if this is what you're after but maybe it will help. They were written before the '19 model year and because I quit making them, I'm not sure if that panel has been changed. You can obviously ignore the line items regarding the installation of the rear plate.
Rear Plate Installation – Polaris Slingshot – All Years
The rear protection plate can be installed and removed without removing the rear panel, however, it will be necessary to remove the panel in order to apply adequate pressure to adhere the 3M tape. It is also much easier to properly locate and drill the holes with the rear panel removed. Please note that the gas tank is located immediately in front of the rear panel. While the fastener holes are located behind a metal strap holding the gas tank, any attempt to drill the holes in place will risk penetration of the tank.
To install rear plate:
- Remove two push fasteners from lower left edge and one push fastener from lower right edge of rear panel.
- Remove four T25 screws from left edge and four T25 screws from right edge of rear panel.
- Remove three T40 bolts from center of bottom edge of rear panel.
- Remove four T40 bolts from the top edge of the rear panel.
- Loosen the panel by working the top edge out from under the lower deck panel above it while keeping the lower edge of the panel in the forward position. If you pull the lower edge back towards the rear tire, it will make it more difficult to clear the top.
- Use a 15mm socket to remove the lower rear shock mount nut from the shock mount bolt.
Thanks! This will be a great help.

Thanks! That sounds like only a one beer project.... Well, except for the wiring itself, but since it's a premade harness that should be fairly straight forward.

Here in NC, winter just ended.... The forecast is for 60 degree weather about 3 or 4 days a week. I can finally get started on some SS projects again.

Are there instructions posted for the steps to remove the rear panel on a 2019 SLR to access the brake/turn/running lights? I have the Electrical Connection kit and would like to knock that project out... I searched, but couldn't find a link. I saw some links to videos, but I'd rather have written instructions.
Thanks!

I have been thinking of changing my seats, and I really like these Procar Touring seats. The dimensions are smaller than it looks, and it should fit no problem. I also like that they don't have the large shoulder pads. I was planning on buying Sparco seat brackets, because they seem to be a little lower than the Planted brackets that are available.
What seats do you have now? I'm looking for an OEM diamond tufted seat....

Sometimes being famous just makes you a target..... I do like having a unique ride like the SS though.

If possible, use 3M ADHESION PROMOTER. If that doesn't work, nothing will....

I'm going to let everyone else in the country get the vaccine, then I won't have to.

Now what fun would life be without challenges
We were just informed that Both Hotels in town have been sold and are scheduled for renovations from now thru March
I am trying to find out who the new contact person will be and get in touch with them. This is going to take some time so please bear with me while I sort this out.
Alternate locations would be
Traveling from the east thru South Hill There is a Hampton Inn / Fairfield and a Holiday in Express near I85 and 58
Traveling from the west thru South Boston there is a Fairfield, Clarion and a Wyndham
I will keep you all posted
There are a few campgrounds in that area too if anyone is interested in that... I'd really love to go and met some of you, but that is the weekend of the Garth Brooks concert in Charlotte, NC. Bought the tickets for last April. It was postponed 3 times last year and finally it might take place.

Oops...just noticed that is just an amp. I like the subwoofer that chase vaseleou installed. I just need to find one more water resistant I think...
-
Marine grade...now that's a Sling of a different color! Looking at that now.

I kind of agree hadnt had much good experience with that brand over the years BUT cerwin vega, JBL, JL Audio ( all my speakers in my slingshot are JL Audio) have had no issues with
I'm just a little concerned about how moisture will affect that sub. I like the way it was installed behind the seat and I liked the combination of amp and sub, but I am going to look for a more weather resistant unit.
-
Considering we wash our Slingshots; wouldn't a marine unit make more sense?
The only issue I have with that particular sub/amp is that it appears to be made by Pyle Audio.... Not the most reliable brand.

Looks like they didn't pay their hosting bill.... I can tell from archives used to be a site, but can't see it anymore
Weird... I just bought my SS set from them 3 weeks ago and had no issues with their site.... I bought my truck set from them in September and again had no issues with their site.

Thanks for the insight! I went with the driver's side due to that odd sideways bolt on the passenger. The length of the amp/sub combo was a little to long to be under the seat. The rear of the seat has less than an 1 inch of clearance. I'd have to raise the seat up over an inch.
Figured I'd toss out a few tips for the next person.
I removed the seat; 4 bolts 15mm, and the seat belt light plug (mine also had another unused plug that has 12volt power with the ignition on. Any ideas what this is for? Heated seats?)
Storage door just pops off. Removed the battery cover (2 40 torx, 2 pop pins), removed the battery completely due to the factory main power line is very short. I ran the amp power cable in the main rubber battery boot, then reinstalled the battery.
It mounted perfectly horizontally behind the drivers seat. I can move the seat all the way back and recline works fine. The storage door opens fine as well.
I used the seat mount bolt as my ground, ran the power through the lower seat belt hole to the battery (less than 24 inches of 8 gauage) and tapped into the driver's side speaker pod for my high level in. I didn't need to run a 12 volt remote on since I used the high level in due to using the stock head unit.
Sounds great, not much unwanted vibration, nice tight bass. Now the audio sounds full and rich.
Total cost $204 all in.
Will that unit also fit behind the passenger seat mounted the same way???? I looked and the space seems the same. But, is there anything I'm missing. I think I would like to do that mod, but I would rather mount it behind the passenger seat if possible...

This year my wife and I are leaving NC and heading for Utah for three weeks of touring in the SS. Other than some day trips, I think I'm full up for the summer already.

Anyone remove the factory seat skin and added heating elements then recover the seats? It is even possible to remove the factory seat skin?
I bought mine from http://www.heatedseatkits.com I also bought a set for my truck and so far no issues with either of them. Good quality, real fast shipping!

I bought the Stowaway soft top because of the ease of storage. My wife and I love baking in the sun, but realized that there may be times when we wanted shade or some rain protection....
We decided against a hard top because you couldn't just take it off when you were on a ride and store it and put it back on later. You have to leave it somewhere.
With the stowaway Soft Top, we just roll it up and it self stores on the center bar until it is needed again.
@Kevin Attention: I do wish that the front bar that goes from the drivers mirror to the passenger mirror was a little taller though. There are times when traffic lights are blocked and if you are taller than say 5' 10" or so, the bar could be in your line of sight.

Noise canceling earbuds with ambient sound settings would likely be your quickest fix. I use the Samsung Galaxy Buds+ for certain highways. It filters out the droning, dampens the highway noise, allows necessary ambient sounds to pass through like horns, sirens, etc, can hear my passenger because they pass voices through, and I can still play music through them when I want. They aren't a Sena headset by any means, but with an 11 hour charge, I use them literally everyday. Works great.
Those would work for me, but I don't have a problem with the exhaust noise....old ears. But, my wife doesn't like things in her ears, so that would have to be the LAST option.
-
I know there will always be noise, it is, after all, an open air vehicle. We both like the sound of the wind and the tires and do not ever want that to stop. It is only the droning/thrumming of the exhaust that really bothers her.
So far, it seems like I can change the sound of the exhaust, to a tone that may not be as annoying by using a complete aftermarket rear exiting exhaust kit or another idea is to try and rear or side exit the stock exhaust.
I'm guessing the easiest/cheapest thing to try first is to route the stock exhaust out the back in concert with some heat tape/pipe wrap on the stock muffler to try and deaden the thrumming/droning within the muffler itself.
Since there is no clear cut way to reduce the stock exhaust sound, I guess I'll have to experiment and report back with the results, positive or negative.
Thanks to everyone that responded!
