Have fun guys! Remember me if you're around the Edmonton area!
-
So what is happening then? Where are you guys meeting, still going hard Saturday? Still trying to figure out logistics.
-
So what is happening with this ride? This weekend? Is it a two day ride, or just a Friday ride?
-
Unfortunately I don't get sick days. I get paid days and unpaid days. Which means if I tell the wife I'm taking a day off to go drive "that silly car", and by the way you have to look after the kids by yourself, she might get a slight bit grumpy.
-
I'd like to come, but weekdays just don't work out well for me. I'll have to wait and see how my projects are going around here, and whether or not I can justify taking a day off.

I've done a fair bit of research over the last few days. Apparently they don't do much up here, unfortunately.
Radar Detectors for Alberta – KMPH.ca
"Alberta police forces have many state of the art speed measurement devices in their arsenal. These tools include the infamous DragonEye handheld laser guns,DragonCam photo-LIDAR systems, latest K-band MultaRadar CD photo radar, on top of the wide spread laser speed traps and Ka-band moving radar."
"Portable laser guns and handheld DragonEye have been sighted throughout the whole Alberta region, where as the DragonEye LidarCam photo system is used extensively in Edmonton area. To get proper protection, you will need AL Priority laser defense. A radar detector is not enough."
The only one that is somewhat useful is the MRCD edition of the Redline, which is not the regular Redline sold in North America. $800.... And that doesn't include the laser jammer.

These help in some situations.
Do they though? Serious question.
I don't have one, but I've been thinking about the techniques, and I find it hard to believe they work.
1) Police won't leave the guns on, they point and shoot, meaning you only have a chance of you catch the beam bounce off the car in front of you. Which, chances are, will be too late to adjust. And on an open road without traffic, you won't even get that.
2) Cops hide at the bottom of hills, and catch you as you go over the crest. In that case, you probably won't get and bounce, even if there is a car in front of you.
3) Most new cars have laser guided cruise control, which would lead to a lot of false alarms.
The way I see it, there will be very few times it will actually work. Am I wrong?

I'm usually pretty careful out on the highways, but this weekend I was in a hurry to get home after camping, and got caught.
I haven't gotten a ticket for 10 years. I guess it was only a matter of time.
I certainly don't want to turn this into a brag about illegal and unsafe driving, but I'm curious how many of you have gotten big tickets out on your Slings?
-
I'd still like to ride, but the wife works today and tomorrow, so I'm on daddy daycare. Anyone want to watch 3 adorable kids for the day?
-
It would be fun for sure! But no way I can commit to it this far in advance...

Here it is!

@SLLE Canada, if you send the picture to me, I'll happily post it for you.
-
@SLLE Canada, there is a chance I'll be out in the Ardrossan area on my way in to Whyte. Will you be coming in from that side of town around 6?
-
Sounds good to me.
-
I'll be heading over from downtown, so I'll be pretty central. Anywhere should work for me.
-
Might be able to join in as well on Monday. In case any are interested, Tuesday night at Blackjacks in Nisku is Bike Night. Usually entails a poker ride around Nisku/Edmonton area.
Interesting. Are there any slings that come out on those nights? Or are they just two wheelers?
-
I'll need to check with the wife to see what she has planned for me next week, but that might work.

Did this idea die?
