makes me wonder - if I can get enough people to track me do you think I can get sponsors?

perhaps I could get a nice advertisement wrap on my foil hat

Actually to be serious if anyone has the job of tracking me I feel very sorry for that person - - more exciting watching paint dry!

We were just talking about this over the weekend that President Biden needed to come out with a NASCAR race suit on with all his sponsors since it is pretty evident that there are some major players that are calling in their chips for their support in the campaign. At least we would be able to tell who the politicians were really working for it they wore their sponsors on their suits, because they sure aren't working for the average American now. Make them come out like Ricky Bobby and thank all their sponsors before they start an interview would be hilarious.

I mentioned this in a post describing my installing our shocks where I thought that a person could use the adjust-ability of the shock to adjust the tension of the belt?

    Bill

Yep, if I adjusted the 3 ways to the sport settings recommended by DDM there wasn't a whine. At lower comfort levels of compression the whine came back during acceleration or when hitting a bigger bump. Wife liked the smoothness of comfort setting since some of the roads we take are a bit rough in a few spots and I don't really push it when she is along for the ride. Assume that the higher compression kept the back end from moving far enough up to reach the point where the belt got loose enough to whine. I'm going to give it a few more turns with the spanner and hope that I get no whine across the range of adjustability.

My wife has a Expedition that has been having issues with the navigation / radio / etc system that controls just about everything on the vehicle. Been in the shop a few times, but they haven't been able to fix it. She dropped off today with dealer and they gave her a rental car since they aren't sure when they are going to figure out what is wrong and how long it will take to fix and it is still under warranty. So she has had an expedition for years and I have a F-150 so she is used to driving full size SUV / truck . Ford assured her they would have a SUV for her when she made the appt since she now hates driving cars after this many years. The Ford place gives her an eco sport subcompact suv as a rental. She came home as mad as a wet hen. Didn't help that I laughed when she got home and asked "where's the rest of it?"

I would check to make sure you are at the same ride height as you were stock, changes in the rear ride height affect the belt tension which can create a noisy belt. When you accelerate in the lower gears you are going to get more weight transfer to the back of the Slingshot, which will lower the back a little more and is probably what is causing the noise. A couple things you could do to check this out would be to raise the compression damping to see if that changes the noise, if so, most likely your rear is a little low for the current belt tension. If that is the case, you can re-adjust your belt to the new ride height or change the ride height to match the belt tension.

So got a warmer day today (about 70 degrees right now at lunch time) so bumped the compression up a few more clicks and took it for a drive. Bit of whine at first (garage was still cold), but as soon as it warmed up whine went away. Ride height must have been set just a tad too low with compression set for comfort when accelerating. Will bring ride height up a bit more and that should fix it. Thanks to Dave@DDMWorks and wjfyfe

Did you actually measure the belt tension? I forgot to check ride height before replacing the rear shock and the result was initially a loose belt and a squeal just as you described. When temps came up one day above 60 degrees where I was able to adjust the belt back to "correct" deflection, the squeal went away.

    Good luck!

    Bill

I didn't closely measure belt tension. I had checked it before when I was worried about it being too tight and that might be contributing to the whine I was hearing from my angle drive. Did a quick check and it felt like it did before I swapped the coil overs, but I was more worried about it being too tight vs too loose. I'll try Dave@DDMWorks recommendation and make some adjustments to see if it gets better. Sounds like it might be too loose under acceleration so I'll tighten it up a bit.

I installed the DDM 3 ways a few weeks back. Got a louder than usual whine when accelerating in lower gears (my angle drive is one of the noisy ones from day one so I always have a bit of a whine, but this is different). Rechecked ride height and it looks good (did not adjust the rear coil overs per installation instructions during installation). Belt tension appears to be same as prior to installation. My first thought was that i was getting a harmonic frequency whine and hoped that it would go away after driving a few times in case it was just a slight misalignment that needed to work itself out. Took it for a quick errand over the weekend and still hearing it. Any ideas? Anyone else have this happen when replacing coil overs? It isn't a constant noise. Only happens when accelerating quickly through first three gears. If I take it easy on acceleration it doesn't do it and it will also stop if I let up a bit on the gas when accelerating.

If you're satisfied with the stock engine, NEVER drive a boosted Slingshot! ADDICTION will almost assuredly bite!

Amen to that. I got an offer to drive a boosted sling a couple of years ago and knew better than to do it.... My wife asked why I didn't take them up on their offer on the way home and told her that the credit card couldn't take what would have happened to it if I had taken it for a drive. A man has to know his weaknesses

    Try Echo Dog Rescue

They rescue white shepherds. That is where we adopted our old man Luke

    Except Luke is mostly Husky.

That's great, good looking dog. We had a black and tan female from when I was in stationed in Germany. Got a boxer after she died of old age and had him until he died of old age too. Got a pair of white shepherds from different rescues a couple of years back (100lb male and 70lb female). Challenge with shepherds is there are GSD specific rescues and they make it such a pain in the ass to get the dog most people give up and go another route.

We have been once before but this time we are doing the 7-day cruise from Vancouver to Seward, AK and then a 7-day land tour from Anchorage to Fairbanks with an excursion to the artic circle

That sounds like a great trip. I was stationed at Ft Richardson in Anchorage from 2005 - 2011. Each spring the state would start putting out public service announcements to remind the residents that the tourists would be showing up soon and remember to be nice to them since AK brings in a ton of tourism $$ each year. Absolutely beautiful country, but do not miss the winters at all.

OK, here is the President's first chance to promote unity... Will he do / say something about an attack on police, federal LEO, the democratic party HQs, and a US Govt immigration facility? Google this story. The Fox report doesn't even show up on the first page. First reference is from UK news source. Only other reference on first page is from a local station website. No where to be found on the daily AP feed. No where to be found on Google News feed. First day on the job and he has a chance to put his money where his mouth is and prove the people that didn't vote for him wrong. If the Biden administration believes that violence during protests and attacking LEO is wrong here is there chance to take a stand in his war that he talked about yesterday. For those that supported Biden as President let's see what actions they take since I no longer believe a word that comes out of any politicians mouth (on either side now).

I reload 10 different calibers but primers have been non existence for nearly a year. My stock if getting very low.

I bought my son a reproduction black powder model 1858 Remington .44 for Christmas and haven't been able to find any percussion caps for it. He volunteers at the local Veteran's Museum and one of the old guys there hands him a small box of caps on Saturday afternoon and said they belonged to his dad.... Best guess they were over 50 years old since the company on the container went out of business over 40 years ago, but could be older since Cory is over 60 and his dad passed years ago. Took them out on Sunday afternoon and not a single misfire. With the shortage he was starting to look at "how to" videos on making black powder caps from coke cans and match scrapings... Felt safer with 50 year old caps vs trying to recreate homemade processes from the 1800s to make them ourselves.

No mods today on the Slongshot but moding the Slingshot helmet. The cheek pads are killing my cheeks on a hour ride I was temped to finish the ride with out it. Probably because of the cheek pads applying to much pressure from the front the padding it the back is hurting the back of my head just above the neck. I really like the helmet as it matches the SS but will have to switch if taking the pads out doesn't fix it. They are removeable but I think that is just for washing.

Can you tell who the OEM was? Every full face I've ever had I could order thinner cheek pads for it. I've shaved my head for years (started losing hair in my mid 20s) and in order for the helmets to fit my head the cheek pads were always too tight. If you can figure out who made it they will probably get you a pair of thinner pads.

    Oops...

No surprise to all of us that came to Slingshots from bikes. He grabbed a hand full of front brake while in the turn (can see the nose of the bike dive right before he goes down). Pretty much a guarantee the front end is going to slide out when you do that.... He wasn't even going that fast since bike barely made it across the road before sliding to a stop.

I'm amazed that the media is not recognizing the significance of today's actions at the capitol. When was the last time that the conservative moderates rose up about anything much less came together to occupy the US Capitol? The reports I'm reading are all talking about "baseless claims", "unsubstantiated claims", and "false claims". Do they not yet realize that the people that took flights to DC to participate in this do not feel that they are baseless and the reason they are out there is because the media, the courts, and their state governments are dismissing their beliefs on this issue? I'll be the first in line to say that some of the claims the Trump campaign made were pretty far out there and were quickly countered with explanations that at least made sense to explain the action. However, some of the claims they made do warrant something more than a dismissal by the executive and judicial branches along with the media. The issue presented today in the joint session is that the state executive and judicial branches overstepped the legislative branch by amending election laws as part of their COVID response actions without the authority to do so (which seems to be a truthful statement from my research). Executive and judicial branches have been overstepping the legislative branch for years, but when you lay that on top of what many feel is executive branch overreach on limits to personal freedoms due to COVID response we appear to have found the breaking point of where the conservative moderates will say no more.

I don't support breaking the law in the process of protesting someone else breaking the law (as stated earlier two wrongs don't make a right). I am however naturally suspect of the motivations of politicians and it seems like it would have been pretty easy for the Governors to convene their legislative branches to amend their election laws properly with transparency and debate. The fact that the changes were generally loved by one party and hated by the other is a pretty good indication that it was probably a bad idea that wouldn't end well. However, back to my original post I do believe that they never thought the moderates would revolt and rise up. My personal belief is that politicians have no problem taking it right to the line or over it as much as they feel they can without getting caught since winning the election is their main goal. Many of the changes that governors put into place seemed to reduce the control measures to limit the opportunity to commit fraud. Did they really think that the people in the campaigns would not take advantage of the reduction in controls for their advantage?

The media reports and political talking points all use the terms "not widespread" and "not significant" interchangeably as they dismiss any claims of fraud. Anyone that took a high school statistics class knows that you do not need something to be widespread for it to be significant. When the margins of victory are as close as they have been this election it doesn't take much fraud to tip the scale. When small scale fraud can impact the result of the election it deserves more than an out of hand dismissal. When the media and democrats dismissed any claims of fraud they helped cause the problem we have today. The only solution would have been open and transparent actions with input from both parties, but they didn't do that which understandably will lead people to think they have something to hide. I don't think there is a person in the world that would think a politician wouldn't cheat to win so why are people to quick to say nothing happened and it doesn't need to be looked at when the stakes were as high as they were in this election cycle. No doubt in my mind that the campaigns took advantage of the reduction in control measures and were able to do things that they wouldn't normally be able to get away with. Now I do not know if it was enough to tip the scales on the results, but I do think it is worth a look.

Unfortunately this is playing out to its logical conclusion mostly because political representatives have ignored the issues that the people they are supposed to represent feel strongly about. Whether you personally agree with it or not when people have strong feelings about an issue and it is not addressed by our representatives it will eventually reach a point that a trigger event will break the status quo and people will lash out in an attempt to be heard. When there are unresolved issues smoldering just below the surface it doesn't take much to fan those flames into a wild fire. BLM protests happened because people ignored the strong feelings that people had on race issues and policing. The result was a nationwide explosion of protests against those acts. The people marching on the capital today happened because there is a huge segment of the conservative middle class that is fed up with pretty much everything that happened in 2020 (impeachment, COVID shut downs, election fraud, etc). Instead of dealing with these issues the democratic and republican party weaponized them to fight each other to gain power with the help of their aligned media outlets. I've known enough political people to know that a vast majority of them at the "professional level" are in it for the power, perks, etc that come with the job and most of the time their priorities are to what is good for them personally followed by what is good for their party. What is good for the people that they represent isn't very high up the list if it doesn't support priority one (themselves) or two (the party). Is anyone really surprised that when the two predominate political parties in the US are in open conflict with each other that it would spread to other groups.

I personally think that state supreme courts, US Supreme Court, Governors, etc all thought that the conservative "silent majority" wouldn't actually do anything over their election fraud concerns. Actions today would seem to indicate that they underestimated how pissed off that group was. It has always been easy for them to spin the activist fringe people up, but now you have middle of the road people taking action. Question now is either side able to get it back under control since they have created situations where significant groups of this country who have never been activists feel their only recourse is to take drastic action to make their voices heard? I'm not confident since all I'm seeing is politicians / media members that supported the BLM protests are condemning what is happening in the capital today while politicians / media members that spoke loudly against BLM protests seem to be much more supportive. This is political status quo go to response that they have always done, but they don't seem to realize that the middle-moderate populace is sick and tired of them not taking real action on things like police reform, race relations, election fraud, infringement of personal liberty, etc.

Two is One and One is None - caliber options are good especially when ammo is short right now. I'd accelerate your purchase though, prices only going to go up.... Both Sportsmans (SPWH) and Smith & Wesson (SWBI) are up today in my portfolio. Fear of what a Biden administration might do will drive both ammo and guns again for awhile.

LOL, the ammo situation can't get worse can it??? How can we have less than zero?? Ammo shelves have been bare for months in most stores. Bought my son a reproduction civil war era black powder 45 pistol for Christmas and can't even find black powder percussion caps to go shoot it anywhere in a three state radius.

Not exactly today's project, but did finally get the DDM coil overs and short shift kit installed over the weekend (Santa was good to me this year). Everyone said the coil over upgrade makes a huge difference, but didn't really believe it until I took the sling for a short test drive. Significant improvement in ride quality. Can't believe I waited this long to do that upgrade. Rear shock was easy since I removed the rear panel (only a few screws to take out) which made the job much easier. Used the scissor jack from my truck to get the rear swing arm in place and it bolted right up. Took a bit longer to finally figure out to use my foot to push the front suspension down to make enough room to get the top bolt in since the front suspension didn't drop like the rear did once the stock shocks were removed to just slide the bolt into place. Drivers side took awhile, but once I figured out how to use those extra Christmas pounds to make enough room to get the bolt holes lined up the passenger side went quickly.
