Ed, I usually can see the logic of your arguments and generally agree with you on many of your points, but on this you are dead wrong. Any basic understanding of military planning would show that this tactic does not work (and is largely detrimental) to achieving objectives in the types of wars that our country has fought in our recent history. Wars between professional armies is no where close to fighting forces based on political, religious, etc ideology. The root of our Govt's challenge in these types of conflict isn't the willingness to do the ugly thing. The problem is that there is generally no path to victory with just conventional military operations. Dept of State has a huge role to play since these types of wars require a political solution to achieve the desired outcome. The US military can pretty much wipe out just about any force across the world if we want to, but that probably isn't going to solve the problem. Our Dept of State has been ineffective for every military action in recent history due to either non-action or screwing up things worse than they were before they got involved. The "iron fist" COIN (counter-insurgency) tactic is always a loser in history.

The Secretary of Defense of the United States of America says he doesn't have the capacity to go out and get Americans in Afghanistan. Read that as many times as you need to understand what he's saying.

The only thing lacking is the will to do it.

My wife was showing me that press conference earlier. I listened closely to the exact wording that the SECDEF used since this whole mess has hinged on some very specific wording coming from the administration (i.e. capacity vs capability to defend themselves)... My best guess is that the administration is unwilling to authorize the force structure necessary to rescue Americans and get them to flights out of the country. Heard that British Paratroopers were on the ground and bringing in their citizens so it can be done with the right force. Just my opinion and I might be totally wrong, but I find it hard to believe that US combat forces are holed up on the airfield because they don't want to go out and rescue Americans. If the administration will authorize the forces and its the DoD that isn't doing anything then it is a dark day for all of us that wore the uniform.

Had some long talks with Libertarian friends on this subject. My view is that Libertarian candidates should run as Republicans just like Democratic Socialists / Progressives / Moderates / etc all run as Democrats. The two party power system isn't going away and third party candidates generally only hurt the more conservative candidate in the race. Sub groups in the Democratic Party have worked this very well and now have a significant say on what the mainstream democratic party platforms are going to be. An option for the Libertarian candidates is to take that as a model and approach the Republican Party the same way. Just my 2 cents

There is no room to drop it except straight down. It is about 21 years old and split this past Sunday. For the rest of the limb's ( up to about 3 inch) start triming the limb's from the bottom to the top with the Ruger 22. It takes 2 rounds for a 3/4 inch limb and maybe 30 rounds for the 3 inch limb's. It has taken me about 250 rounds and only one 4 inch limb left. I broke out the AK for that one and will wait for it to cool off this afternoon. I though you guys would get a kick out of this. Yes, it has a scope and will do 3/4 inch or less group at 100 yards. I also have an old 550 that is zeroed for golf balls at 100 yards (about 99 out of 100 shots)

I hate Bradford Pear trees. I don't understand why there are still places to buy them since most all yard / landscape people know all about the problems they create. If you want a flowering tree just go with crepe myrtles which do much better and don't have all the problems that bradford pears present. Just don't commit crepe murder and whack them off like a lot of people do around here. The grumpy gardener is my hero on this topic....

You probably want to talk to Edward Neal since his is truly a daily driver in a warm/hot environment. I ride to work a few times a week, but end up taking longer to get there since my slingshot route to work isn't the same one that I use when driving my truck... Not to discourage you, but my experience has been that people that move from bikes to slingshots do a lot better than car people moving to slingshots. For me the sling came when I was deciding on whether to trade my HD Super Glide for a touring bike or a slingshot. Both offer similar benefits (tunes, GPS, storage, wind protection, comfortable seating, etc), but my wife definitely liked the Sling better and the fun factor was a lot higher for the Sling than the "old man bagger" I was considering at a similar price point. You will get rained on, you will be hot and sweaty, you will smell like the road but you will do it all with a big smile on your face as long as you accept what a slingshot is and what it isn't.

I was wrapping up my Madstad bumber install and remembered a few of you mentioning concerns with your sway bar shifting on the model years that didn't have the built in stops. Well to my surprise mine was shifted several inches to the passenger side when I took a closer look at it. Thanks to your posts a couple of quick whacks with the ole rubber mallet got it back in center again. Thanks for all the info you guys put out on this forum.

Is it worth installing a set of stops or is this just something to keep an eye on and whack it back in the middle if it gets off center again? Mine is a 2016 and I don't think I ever looked close enough before to see if it was centered or not before i took the stock lower wing off to install the madstad bumper so not sure how long it has been that way.

Well if I am doing the speed limit they don't need to pass me unless they have red or blue lights flashing.

DJohnson I've had this discussion with each of my children as they learned to drive. On multiple lane roads I've always told them to pick the lane that is going the speed they are most comfortable driving. Traffic is all about expectations and drivers expect other vehicles in their lane to be travelling more or less the same speed. Not driving the same speed as surrounding cars in your lane of traffic presents an obstacle to surrounding traffic which increases the likelihood of accidents. My route to work is also used by people from outside the metro area coming into Huntsville to go the the medical district. I see accidents and road rage incidents all the time caused when they camp out in the left lane with a huge line of cars behind them. Normal traffic goes 10-15 MPH over the posted speed limit on that road all the time in the left lane and just about the posted speed limit in the right lane. Just the other day there was a car in the left lane that must have had traffic backed up behind them for at least a half a mile. He was probably going the posted speed limit or just a bit under but he was being a hazard because he was going slower than traffic normally goes on that stretch of road and because he was going the same speed as the right lane other drivers were getting pissed because they couldn't get around him. I saw several near accidents as cars merged into the right lane in gaps that were barely big enough for their vehicle. I saw several people cut over right in front of him as soon as they got enough room. The funny thing was he blew his horn at each person that cut over right in front of him, but never attempted to get over and get out of the way. The right lane was going the speed he wanted to go so he should have moved over, but instead he was causing a huge mess. In his head he was probably saying the same thing you did above that I'm going the speed limit and they don't need to pass me.

lol chavey2 if you are talking about that lime squeeze one with those monster mickey thompson's you're right its an absolute work of art . I would post one of the many pics I took of it here but they're still in my phone lost on the damn Rattler someplace . . and now I find out any pics you take while roaming on data don't sync until you get back home on wifi so I don't even have the cool pics DER took of me and my sexy quad kit , wait slash that , sexy and Kev don't belong in the same sentence lol

Kev, there was a FB post from Jared Henderson "Polaris Slingshot Owners" group from June 5th that someone found your phone. Posted to ask anyone that knew you there to tell you to get a hold of your daughter since the guy that found it called her. I assumed that they had linked up with you in Maggie Valley before you headed back. Hope you can get your phone back.

I have the Toyo 305 /30 /20 for a rear tire now. Getting real close to needing a replacement. I only got 7000 miles of of this one and compared to the Federal tires I used to run I don't think they grip as well. Looking at the Nitto 305/30/20 as well.

Anyone have the Nitto on and if so what are your thoughts on grip and longevity?

And- if I went to a 305/35/20 would that mess up and throw codes?

I have Nitto 555 G2 on my SL (so 255 vs 305). the wear seems to be really good (I have around 5K on current one and still good tread left - didn't get 10K out of the stock Kendra before the tread was pretty much completely gone). The grip isn't good and will break lose easily when accelerating (I'm NA so not even dealing with extra HP from boost). It is a good looking tire on the back of the SS if tread pattern visuals are important to you. The prices are usually pretty good and you can usually find them pretty cheap if you do a bit of shopping around.

I have thought a quick disconnect might be a fun mod, but I absolutely do not want the steering wheel any closer to me than it is now as stock - - not having any local slingshots where I can see these things I have been hesitant to order anything - - what I would like to know is if using a quick disconnect with the NRG short hub adapter can the wheel be kept at its original distance?

ED, my quick disconnect steering wheel is by far my favorite mod. It was a little strange at first to have the wheel closer to me, but the more I drove the more I liked it. The best thing is getting out of the SS is a breeze now. I'm not a little guy (6'2" 230lbs) and getting in and out with the stock wheel was a pain. I have an NRG wheel that is much more comfortable in my hands that the stock wheel. Hardest part of the mod is getting the stock wheel off, but a little patience is all it took with the puller to get mine off.

many many years ago I was an industrial electrician and at the time it was code that everything we ran was run in a conduit there was no romex like they allowed in houses. At the time I swore that if I ever had a home built I would pay the extra cost to do it the industrial way and have every run go in a conduit and not just the size required, but where possible one size larger - - I always felt that doing this would future proof the home by allowing additional wires to be pulled or larger wires to be pulled if ever my electrical needs changed.

at this point I have never had the opportunity to actually build my home so this hasn't happened yet, but I still hate romex and the idea of wiring that is not in a conduit - - - I also hate the damn plastic boxes they now use for receptacles - - back when I did industrial no plastic was allowed

I hate those plastic boxes. My whole neighborhood has problems with lights falling from the ceiling because of them. Most all of us have gone into the attic or paid someone to go into the attic to replace them with metal connection boxes. I found several that just crumbled in my hands when I was removing them. We are building a house next year and no way I'm using plastic boxes there.

Which Canadians celebrate the Fourth of July? Never seen one yet. We celebrate the July 1st Canada day

The campgrounds all have July 4th celebrations. I finished up my Army career in Alaska and we drove out on our way to Alabama. The campground we stayed at over the 4th had a big party. They said they did it every year for the tourists that were coming through on the ALCAN highway. Now I"m sure the locals didn't care, but the tourists places were all over it.

I know this won't currently help, as I don't think meansling is up and running again just yet, so for that I'm sorry. We went with the quickshade. Didn't want a roof but needed to get the wife out of the sun on the long rides. Installs in 5 minutes and then once done completely breaks down and stores behind the seat.

I have the quickshade too and love it, but don't think this is available anymore. Ruptured Duck isn't active right now with the job change.

I am getting ready to change my angle drive oil for the second time and I have a question. I have owned a lot of outboard motors and when I changed the foot oil, I would fill the foot from the bottom drain plug. This pushes all the air out and when the oil would start running out of the top plug I replaced the top plug then the bottom plug. (You loose very little oil doing this) Then I would remove the top plug and add oil if needed to top it off. Has anyone tried this on the angle drive? Or do I need to just fill from the top hole. Inquiring minds want to know. :/

I wondered the same thing as I was doing the lower unit on my boat last year. Easy to find the right fittings for a boat lower unit, but not sure how to modify that kit to use on angle drive.

I bought my 10/22 many years ago. I am blown away at what this rifle sells for today. Same thing with my 22/45. Couple of time proven weapons from Ruger

I have a 22/45 with a bull barrel and love that gun. Taught everyone in my family to shoot with that gun. Accurate, no kick, narrow grip so small hands have no problem shooting it. All around great gun for a day of plinking

Yep, ordered the relay specified on the madstad website. Pins look correct for the open fog light spot on the fuse box. The pins on the fuse are all oriented in the same direction which is what prompted my question if it was an issue to install upside down since it will install at 0 and 180 degree orientation. Sounds like it will work either way it is installed from your comments and what I could find last night on the internet. Thanks for the responses. Looking forward to getting the bumper and getting it installed.

I have a 2016 that has the fog light wiring harness already in place, but no relay or fuse in the fuse block. I ordered the MadStad bumper that comes with fog lights that should be plug and play once I add the relay and switch according to their website. Switch looks pretty straight forward to add, but had a question on the relay. Is there a right or wrong way to install it? Looks like it just plugs into the fuse box, but does it matter if I install it "upside down" since the pins look like they would fit at either 0 or 180 degree orientation. Don't want to mess up from ignorance and damage something.
