... Never thought of a matte anti glare shield. mpj220 thanks for the tip. Please inform when you install if it helps even a little would be a good thing.

I use this one and cut it down to size.

The nice thing, you get two and......they are big enough that you can screw up 3 times and still have enough left for a 4th try.

I use the "wet" method to install. just spritz the screen protector with a bit of water and squeegee it on. I found that to give perfect result without trapping air bubbles.

Even if there are air bubbles, I have peeled it off, washed it with water/dish soap. Then re-installed it.

I don’t know of any “high contrast” double din head unit.

The biggest problem is the angle of the dash. It makes the head unit a perfect mirror for inspecting the sun.

Things that help with double din decks is:

    • Scosche mounting kit. This kit changes the angle of the radio and does reduce, not eliminate, the reflection of the sun.
    • Install a matte screen protector. Any generic matte protector from Amazon can be cut to fit your screen. Same as above. It won’t eliminate but, it helps quite a bit.
    • Combine both of above.

I scrapped a traditional head unit and went with a 10” floating screen and a custom mount setup. The screen is close to vertical so, no sun reflection at all. I also added a matte screen protector just to reduce overall reflection. I can see my screen clearly in full sunshine.

I painted my roll hoops…..twice now.

Prep was simple since the surface smooth. Wipe down with denatured alcohol.

First time I used rattle can Rustoleum high performance enamel. Three light dusting coats with 15 minute dry time between. Followed by 2 heavier coats. I let that dry for 2 days. I followed up with a gloss clearcoat from Duplicolor. Two light coats, followed by one heavy.

Results were very good. Durability…..so so. Wind friction would dull it a bit. But, hand oils from leaning on it would wear down the clear.

    So, attempt 2.0

    Same Rustoleum base coat.

For clear, I used a 2 part epoxy spray gloss clearcoat from Spraymax. This paint is absolutely amazing. Once you crack the activator, you have about 48 hours of using the can. After clearcoat, I wait about 2 days for it to cure and the surface is unbelievably strong. Wind, hand oils….nothing seems to dull the finish. Also, it is UV resistant.

This is the stuff I used:

    https://www.amazon.com/Spray-R…es-3680061/dp/B0043B7UQY/

For your project, there are other options. You can paint it the color of your choosing and clear it with this stuff. It is available in gloss, matte, semi-matte.

It you want to keep black and be done with just a couple coats, it’s available in black gloss, matte, or satin. Just search Amazon for “2k spray max black”

The stuff can handle some heat to. I used it on a couple valve covers and it held up perfectly.

    Hello,

Which of the PRP seats give you more legroom (slide further back) for taller people? Gen 1 or Gen 2 (with removeable bottom pad).

    Thank you,

    Rick

I can only comment on Gen 1 PRP's.

I am 6'1" and always kept my stock seats as far back as possible on a 2017.

Installed the PRP Gen1 and found MUCH more leg room. Had to move the seat forward a few clicks to push the clutch all the way.

You also sit slightly lower as compared to stock.

If you are tall, PRP seats are definitely the way to go.

I'm an amateur with the paint stuff too. Clear matte is something I didn't think of & another option. Midnight blue satin has been on order. So I'll hold and go from there. I've got a few good options. One good thing about living north in a colder climate, it gives us the time to tinker. Thats what we use to get through the winter. :)

Ya, Painter does some incredible work. I'm just looking for a subtle transition between the slingshot color navy blue to the interior black.

Thanks for the help, I may go one of those routes.

This is a photo when I started painting some of the interior panels. Everything used was Duplicolor rattle cans available at Autozone.

    Prep was:

    • Remove panel.
    • Clean with soap and warm water, dry. Follow with full wipe down with 99% pure alcohol.
    • Two light dusting coats of Adhesion Promoter.
    • Two dusting coats of color, followed by 2 heavier coats. (all coats 10 minutes apart).
    • Let dry 24 hours.
    • Two coats Duplicolor clearcoat of choosing – gloss or matte. I used Duplicolor BCL0125 in this pic.

I was very happy with the results. This pic is from Sep 2020 and, as with all things Slingshot, nothing is the same. I ended up buying a wrap kit from AMR that covered most of the center console. Stereo is nowhere near the same. All dash switches are changed.

I do have the same steering wheel and phone mount.

So many variants of the color navy blue. Not sure I like this or not? Was looking for something a little darker. Some slingshots come through with the center console painted. Mine did not so I gave it a shot.

Mine is a 2017 navy blue.

Closest color I found is Duplicolor Electron Blue Pearl. It is a factory Honda color.

Second closest is Duplicolor Sonic Blue Pearl - a Ford color.

These are usually available at Autozone or O'Reilly's - just not in my area as I have painted my center console, speaker boxes, belt guard, mirrors, cold air intake, valve cover, and other stuff.

I don't know. The room in the cockpit is limited as it is. I wouldn't want anything bigger than what could fit in the existing dash cavity. And for what? Why do you guys need a huge screen? Enlighten me, bad eye sight? Lol

Well, the eyes aren’t getting any better with age but, really has nothing to do with the reason I went with a larger screen.

It’s no different than any other mod……personal preference. There is no right or wrong.

what bracket qre you guys using for these huge screens?

There are a ton of choices.

You can do this one from Slingmods: https://www.slingmods.com/doub…-2015-2016-2017?vehicle=3 It looks like a “newer” version of the Navatlas mount that was available for years. This mounts without affecting any factory buttons (including start button).

I used a mount from Xtremetunez. A bit more involved as it changes all my buttons to push button with LED rings. I also moved the start button to below – also a smaller push button with LED ring. To go this LED button route, I needed to utilize a relay board as Polaris likes to use switched ground for the flashers. And, these little LED switches are only good for a max of 5 amps.

    Thanks for many great ideas.

When it comes to size, do you think the 11.6" will be a better choice compare to 10.2" if you had the option to choose between them today?

Bigger is always better....yes?? For reference - my 10.2" screen width is almost exactly the same width as the upper console itself.

There isn't a ton of feedback / reviews yet on the newer units. It looks like they are a pretty new release. Honestly, if it is Dasaita, I would have good confidence it is quality. Many of the bad reviews on the deck I have is primarily due to people not understanding Android.

The other thing I noticed is that the newer 11.6 and 13.3 width units use a rigid mount between the deck and the screen. The older 10.2 used a ball mount between the deck and screen. What are the advantages/disadvantages ?? A matter of preference/aesthetics.

I had a guy I met down in Maggie that loved my unit so much, he ordered one and sent it to me to set up a custom launcher and put a ton of apps on it.

I made some videos to help him figure out how to use all the features.

This should be a playlist of all the videos:

The 10.2" was the largest they offered when I bought it in July 2020. The new Dasaita models look to have a bit better resolution, some larger screen options, and some proprietary interface called "scout". It looks like "scout" makes it easier to do split-screen/multi apps.

Mine does the split screen thing. Just press and hold the double box in the upper right corner and I can run two programs split screen. Navigation on the left, video (or whatever) on the right.

My Slingshot has the Scosche harness. It works perfect. Just remember that the aftermarket harness does NOT have any speaker connections. I found it easiest to just run speaker wires directly from the deck (or amp) to the speaker pods.

I usually recommend Xtremetunez as they are top notch and you can get all the install stuff in one place. I also have their Slingshot Accessory Mount Plate/Heat Shield (SSAP). That gives me a good way to mount the 2 amps behind the head unit.

Some other things to consider. Not trying to spend your money - just throwing some suggestions while you have the dash cover off. More of a "been there, done that" bit of advice. will follow up with a couple photos.

Dash Camera - bottom line, your video against their word : https://www.amazon.com/ATOTO-A…ash-Camera/dp/B0822KMK48/

Remote wireless buttons - As I said in a previous post, I like a simple volume knob. The Dasaita requires that you take your eyes off the road to press the screen at the + or - to change volume. These wireless buttons make it much easier to control. Mounted with double sided tape just in front of the shifter. Simple 4 wire hook up (power, gnd, 2 to radio). The Dasaita allows you to program whatever you want to each button. I have volume up/down, skip forward/back, and mute on the left. The right has quick app open for navigation, phone, other for screen dim : https://www.amazon.com/Aramox-…Controller/dp/B08R3P6SBB/

Matte screen protector - the angle of the Slingshot dash makes the large screen act like a mirror. Sun in your eyes. This improves things in a big way. Trim this to size. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0792M2ZV5/

Wifi antenna - the deck comes with a little 1.5" wifi antenna. I have this antenna mounted just above the glove box but under the top dash cover. Increases the wifi range quite a bit. : https://www.amazon.com/Wlaniot…-Connector/dp/B07GNC8DHH/

I'll post some pics from my phone shortly.

    https://www.amazon.com/Dasaita…Navigation/dp/B07VBBZFBG/

I have now put the same unit in 4 other Slingshots.

I have a number of Android units in various family vehicles. Without a doubt, the Dasaita offers the most bang for the buck. It is a higher price compared to others but, well worth it. Runs on Android 10, 4G ram, 64G rom, PX6 processor, built in Apple Carplay and Android Auto (wired or wireless). The deck has 4x50 watt output. I have used just deck power on other people's and it was darn impressive, especially after you adjust everything.

You can download most any app from the Google Play store (or any other apk file). I have Pandora, Spotify, Google Music, Youtube Music - just some of the music apps.

Youtube and any other streaming video apps work fine. I can watch live NE Patriot games.

As for bluetooth, it works flawless with several phones. If you are looking to use it to pair to an LED controller, that usually doesn't work. Most all controllers use location services as a backdoor into your phone's bluetooth. These Android head units just don't have that ability.

Works perfect with the factory backup camera. I use a wire harness and a double din install kit from https://xtremetunez.com I also installed a USB dash cam ($40) and if works awesome. I still have an open RCA video input for another camera (yes, the deck will record the video).

I am personally running a few amps and a DSP unit. Nothing major - all budget stuff. 2 small amps and the DSP mounted behind the head unit. A sub amp in the drivers storage running a shallow 10 mounted to each storage door. I still have plenty of room in my storage compartments.

With Android decks, it all is a matter of what you want out of them. If you want everything built into the deck (GPS, full Android, video apps), Dasaita is the way to go. If you want a big screen deck only to run Apple Carplay or Android Auto, check out the ATOTO F7. It operates on a modified Linux system and works very well. I replaced an Alpine deck in my wife's car with an F7. Much better sound.

I have a 2018 slr se with the stock seats. Does anyone know if the prp Gen 2 seats sit lower than the stock seats? Trying to get a little more headroom

Yes, you sit lower and gain more leg room with PRP.

I have a 2017 SL and have always had the seat as far back as it could go.

Recently put PRP (gen 1) in and I now sit lower and had to put the seat forward 2 clicks.

I have had the recall done and, even that is not quite impressive. All they do is bypass the factory fuse block and crimp a big fuse holder in place on the main chassis fuse.

Now, after seeing the fuse block melt on other circuits, I am thinking of doing a little preventive maintenance so I am not left stranded on the side of the road.

May be picking up one of these and some extra mini ANL fuses.
