I have had the sony XAV-100 for about 4 years now, it has survived several rainstorms, the occasional pressure wash spray and the heat of no top direct sunlight.

While there are definitely things I don't like about it, I have to admit that it has survived for way longer than I expected and can't help it but say that the damn thing is pretty much a tank.

oh and I don't have a fancy enclosure like mytoy or any of the others, even though I did buy one with a lid I never got around to install it and its still sitting in the garage 4 years later in the same box as the red radiator hose kit that I never installed either lol.

Yeah, the XAV-100 is now discontinued, replaced by the XAV-150. I've read reviews and asked if it was "water resistant" like the -100, but haven't heard back yet.

Problem is that there is no true Marine Grade Double Din regardless of brand. Yes, there are Marine Grade Single Din, and Marine Grade "Gauge" style, but no true Marine Grade Double Din.

Closest is the Sony XAV-AX#### series. While there are Youtube videos showing it being "rained" on and surviving, Sony specifically excludes water damage in their warranty. Even the head units for the Harley's are not waterproof.

Closest I've seen to a "double din size front plate" is the Rockford Fosgate PMX-8. But it's not exact and requires an adapter plate to make it "look like" a double din.

The original 2015 speaker enclosures used cheap, no-name speakers with a 5-1/2" main speaker and a 3" or so mid-range and a smaller tweeter. I left the 2 smaller speakers in place and cut the wires to them and then installed a 6.5" 3-way speaker before I decided the enclosures stuck out too far into my legroom, forcing my left leg farther to the right than I cared for and I sold them. I've now gotten tired of the SSV Works enclosures for the same reason and looking for an alternative. My initial plan is to try the UA under-dash subwoofer enclosure to free up my legroom.

You could go like many of the other guys do and put all the speakers on the outside - the fender well, the head rest facing backward, the side pods, etc. That way everyone else could hear your music - except you.

That's correct and my son-in-law, who recently inherited my stock pods and removed the Rockford Fosgate speakers, discovered that they have a magnet the size of a quarter... lol

That explains a lot! C'mon Polaris. Really?

Yeah, while they were RF brand, they weren't RF's normal quality. They were really cheap speakers, not what you would normally get from RF.

Well if I am doing the speed limit they don't need to pass me unless they have red or blue lights flashing.

If you can see the red & blue flashing 10-20 cars behind, by all means. But it is called a PASSING LANE, not a speed limit lane. It's actually the law in Texas, with signs about every 1-2 miles, although I have YET to see it enforced. If you are not passing the car to your right, you are NOT passing so get over to allow cars to flow regardless of the speed limit.

We just had a shooting Friday night in Austin and the EMTs could not arrive within 10 minutes due to traffic. There's big news all over about it where they should pre-position EMTs along busy locations.

I use Kenwood head unit, I made the double din mounting and it has a splash cover, so far no problem. You guys can also ask Bill Martin he has the same

Yep, I've got your mount too mytoy - in Carbon Fiber also running the Kenwood Excelon DMX905S. Put the splash cover over it too but still got water, either around the edges or from behind. And I did fill in the firewall area with insulation although admittedly, I'm sure some water can still get in a round the wires or from above. I'm really thinking of pulling the Kenwood apart and cleaning/covering what I can with conformal coating and sealing all the edges around the screen. I did notice that there was water/moisture in the screen before it initially died. <$20 and I think I can resurrect it.

What is most telling is the "Our screen is an IP66 waterproof" statement.

My "screen" is waterproof too but, the back with the vents and ribbon connector certainly are not.

I actually sprayed my screen with water to apply my matte screen protector.

All of the other specs they quoted is identical to the Vanku unit I posted. The extra $700 seems a bit much for the name "Insane Audio"

Yeah, I caught that too. From what it sounds like to me, it's nothing but a glorified phone with an amp wire.

    Kewl Beans mpj220 .

Here's their response. I find it telling that they still absolutely refuse to provide an actual spec sheet.

I also note that one of the 3 reviews on Amazon was very detailed and specific and not flattering:

I bought the DD2001 and these are my biggest gripes: GPS does a terrible job holding a signal making navigation practically useless. The Android version is seriously outdated and system settings are extremely shallow. The overall interface lacks a streamlined layout forcing you to deal with apps, even just to play music. The music interface is an app. The EQ is a separate app. You can't just tap an icon to instantly switch to the EQ. You have to minimize the player and open the EQ. They added steps to a process that has been streamlined for years. So the user experience is quite cumbersome to say the least. The lack of physical buttons forces you to use controls within apps that becomes a difficult task due to its tiny screen. And if you want to use an app that only has a portrait mode, you're SOL as the interface will not display the app properly. It's as if Insane Audio took a 1st gen Pixel XL phone and fashioned it to an amp. Last but not least, music quality could be a lot better. I have a feeling that this is due to the codecs used to feed the amp is as cheap as the app used to play the music files. You can buy a better music player on the Google App Store, but what kind of quality do you think you'll get for 10 bucks? Also, the fact that you can't find ANY information on the specs of the amp is shady at best. I wouldn't be surprised to find a direct auxiliary circuit from the front side of the unit (the phone) to the back directly to the speakers buried beneath the facade of amp circuitry. I'm a bit embarrassed to tell my friends that I feel like I wasted over a thousand dollars on a HU that was really worth $50. I'll just have to eat the loss and buy another HU from a more reputable audio manufacturer.

Now the other news: I went back out to check the measurements for replacing the double-din with something else (either a single din or one of those gauge marine radios). Just for giggles, I turned on the ignition - AND THE KENWOOD CAME TO LIFE! Cameras still out, but everything else working again, including the LEDs under the front buttons. I may pull it out and see what I can do to waterproof it even more (have the rear cage covered in duct tape and a plastic sheet mounted above it to keep water from dripping in from the above.). Maybe buy a spray can of the conformal coating??

If you find a 4 channel one that's outdoor/marine please share. Looked and decided to just use a splitter as it couldn't be worse then L/R RC signal I was using before - lol

Saw some 4 channel ones that run on 12v for indoor use with 110v power supply putting out 12v - so maybe if I put in storage box could do that.

Found a 4 channel one specific for the car - but not marine. And the bluetooth dongle is not available yet on Sonic but I looked elsewhere and it's $402!!  (not a typo)

I THINK I FOUND A FULLY WATERPROOF DOUBLE DIN!!

    Insane Audio DD2001

I still want to see technical specs (RCA output voltage, etc), but looking good so far (except price). Double Din, all the apps are directly loaded - instead of Apple Carplay/Android Auto, Front & Rear camera inputs, GPS/Navigation, etc. I want to try to call them to discuss, will let you know.

** EDIT: Reviews on Amazon were NOT flattering. **

Pretty much thinking the exact same thing. I see that BT controller is only 2 channel. I'll need to find one that is 4 channel to control both balance and fader.

I heard that he wouldn't tell anyone the price of those rims/tires while his wife was in ear-shot. Heck, you already spent 5 digits on the rear end. Can't get in more more trouble than that?

Yep, that's the one. And I'm so sorry you lost your phone. Time to go back and find it!

Looked thru my phone but I can't believe I didn't take a pic of it.

Here it is cut from Lowpt2001 's video on the other thread. Even this pic doesn't do it justice. To see those single piece machined A-arms and triangulated shocks - just WOW!.
