got to wear a helmet in CA so scalp burns are not an issue
Epic fail on CA!!

I have to agree - my wife hates the sun, but even so whenever I mention getting a top she tells me no. Always says "if you wanted a top why the heck would you get a slingshot?"
And when I think about it I have to admit she is right - even though I will be riding in 110 degree weather almost every single day until mid September at the soonest I have to admit I love the openness and a top, any top would take away from that.I will not rule it out as something that will never happen, but I would say the odds are not in favor of it
I love no top too. The good thing about the shade is that you can take the tops off. I plan on doing that when I get the new shade in and it aligns properly. But it is VERY effective in blocking the sun from burning your scalp!

UPDATE:
Went to the dealer to pick up my SS and take it home until the new slingshade comes in and the service rep let me see 2 SS with the shade on them. Both of them installed much more in alignment than mine. We both agreed that I just had a bad build on mine. We'll see how it goes when they install the new one in another 8-10 business days.

Got an Allstate policy at $64/month. Much much better than the Farmer's contractors!

Philip, WTF? How many dui's, crashes, speeding tickets do you have bro? I'm sure I can save you a boat load of cash if you're willing to change companies. Text me or PM me if interested
My insurance is even higher! Can I PM you too?

I'm 800 for the year/67 per month...and I'm about to be told I'm crazy too...so hold on for this ride!
SSREAPER
Oh no! I guess I need to do some shopping around. Who is your carrier?

Hey peeps!
How much are you paying for insurance for this thing? Mine is sky-high for a 48yr old male with full coverage.
$166/month

I think we are being too hard on Polaris about the Slingshade. It is by far the best looking roof to have. It also looks completely natural as if it's an option for the trike. I can see it's resale value being very good. Whether they lacked the skill to manufacture the Slingshade or not doesn't answer the question of a good add-on option to the car. It is a good add-on. The parts just need to be measured properly and line up with the rest of the vehicle.

Wondering if you can tell did it warp or was it misaligned from the start
Nah, it came in and the service department installed it. It was misaligned when I got it.
Furthermore, it may be a flimsy piece of plastic, but it does look pretty. And it seems like a natural part of the vehicle. The shade does block the sun quite well, so not all bad.

It's orange madness.
And yes, I agree with the others. This thing is supposedly top notch for it's cost. Oh well..

Wow. I didn't even know they had promised the top that long. Newbie here..

I bought the slingshade as an option with my new 2018 and it came in about 3 weeks ago and they installed it. I thought everything was fine until I got home to see that the passenger's side t-top isn't lining up properly with the magnets. Also the other side has some paneling that doesn't line up flush together. Took the SS in yesterday to get it adjusted and they told me that there was no way of adjusting it and that they would need to order a new one.
Ugghh..

What part of TX @Aceman?
Plano

@Aceman, I have owned 54 vehicles. Bought all of them to drive. Including my Lotus, Vettes, Jag, and other sports cars. Your standard warranty is only 2 years and 24K. I did lots of mods on my first SS, my 2nd SS, and my wife’s SS. Still changing stuff.
I’m not rich so I don’t buy vehicles as an investment. As far as that goes, rarely are mass produced vehicles ever worth much unless you can hang onto it for 40-50 years. Then, if you are really lucky and picked one of the few vehicles that people really want, and gas is still available and everything hasn’t gone electric, you might get your money back or make a little bit. The stock market is much more profitable.100% agree with the stock market comment. But their are cars that go for a shit ton more than they did when they were released and they aren't so old -- Supra, RX7 3rd gen, Buick GTX, Cyclone, etc..

Just to be clear on my stance.
This is my 2nd brand new vehicle purchase ever. The first was my EVO and because of me babying it so much, it's NEVER given me a mechanical problem except ONE time I was racing a Mustang GT and the water pump went out. Other than that, I've had no other defects to the car in 14yrs.
My stance is, baby a brand new vehicle and it will treat you right. I bought the SS for pleasure driving only. Hence, I don't have to drive it all the time just because it's a new car and I need to 'get my money's worth'. Vehicles with low miles are valued more than ones with lots of miles. I may not ever trade this one in, but I may depending on what the later gens have. Low miles would make the resale value optimal. Also, these things may end up being classics and the low miles ones will be worth more.
In any case, I'm in it for the long haul. TX is just too damn hot to enjoy riding everyday and there's way too many dumb drivers out there. I'd feel more comfortable cruising really early in the morning, and preferably on the weekends. I also prefer to 'not care about miles' after the loan is paid off.

Many of us drive ours almost every day without any more issues than our other vehicles. Got my first one on 12/14. It had the steering recall after about a month. Had a angle drive go out and fixed quickly. Had other recalls done as with my Jeep, Dodge, and Ford. Jeep lost engine and then transmission. Dodge lost alternator w only about 20K. Then recalled for it. Ford had coolant hose clamp left off from factory. And a recall for shift points not set right.I have driven over 40,000 miles in mine. My wife and I have EACH driven about 11,000 in ours this past year. Others have even more miles. Only problems with hers has been with Alpha exhaust. You hear about the problems, not the lack of problems.
I see.. every day though?
-
This is depressing to hear and makes me want to keep the SS garaged. I've already come to accept it's a pleasure vehicle only and shouldn't be driven even 1x/week.
-
Hahaha! I was expecting a good run there from a modded SS with turbo/pro-charger!
These things aren't for racing. They are for cruising and looking better than the Vette.
I have my EVO for racing..

All years have the issue when they have the stock exhaust, it has two cats and those produce an ungodly amount of heat for them to do their function.
Which is why many of us remove them and go for an aftermarket exhaust which brings different issues but we rather deal with those instead of the excessive heat.Gotcha. The only problem with changing it is the noise and the emissions right?
