what’s wrong with a base model? All models uses the same engine and transmission. I refuse to pay for a ridiculous price for an upgraded SL model that only has a “bigger wheels, backup camera and audio system.”

There is something to be said by all the niceties built into the other models. The fact that they are covered under warranty as well as having a solid part/install also makes it stick out. I think it's worth it.

I disagree with trying to scrape a few hundred out of the MSRP. My dealer would not budge on the price and only gave me a deal on an accessory. Evidently, these are hot items right now. If you ever test drive it, you'll understand the fun of it. I went to the dealer and bought THAT day without a second thought. Of course, I was scoping these SS since 2016.

I would definitely shop around if I were you. I’ve seen the SL sell for around that price. It would be worth the drive to find a volume dealership and save $3k or more.

How do you go from 18k to 35k? Does the base model have so few features? You are talking about a 17k price difference here (granted, I include tax/title/tags).

It definitely grabs attention. I was cruising downtown Dallas this past weekend, and I saw a guy in a Ferrari staring at my SS as we passed each other.. he had the smile on his face. I would have thought that he was the one trying to steal attention, but even he thought the SS was more attractive going down the road. :)

Speed? The SS has extremely fun torque down low and this is probably the main driver in the 'fun' factor. At least for me. My EVO is significantly faster, but not casually going from 1-4th gear maintaining the speed limit.

stock radio sucks bad reception seems to be a universal problem. the solution differs depending on the person. Many here upgrade their entire system, others have installed signal boosters with varying degrees of success and others like me have given up and use streaming services like Pandora

I have the Ride Command system. How would I go about getting the streaming service? Is it in the audio setup?

Mine have vibrated since the day I left the dealership. Come to think about it, my mirrors vibrated like mad on my SV650, my R1, My GSX600R, and about 3 or 4 other slingshots I have been in. lol. Just kind of a given I thought since there is little to no insulation or dampening material in an open air vehicle.

I double checked how "flimsy" my mirrors were on the SS and they seem to have been mounted very securely. I can actually barely move the mirrors to adjust for field of view. That attachment seems to be extremely tight. I have 2018 though.

Mine started rattling after the first year. A little fuel line cured the problem.

I've read about the issue enough over the years to figure it's pretty common.

But several people here disagree with your assessment. They are saying it's NOT common at all.

A trick shown to us by a previous resourceful member, where you take and split a short length of fuel tubing lengthwise and wa-la, no more vibration. ^^

But that's using something not as a part of the stock configuration. I'm trying to figure out if the mirror that vibrates have a deeper issue that may need replacing.

I have a 16 and the drivers side mirror shakes like a paint shaker. I put some rubber around it ( learned from this site) and it helps. Passenger side no problem.

You sure there isn't something wrong with the mounting?

So in a few threads I've seen people complaining about vibration in the mirrors. I've taken my sling out this entire weekend and drove it around. I'm not getting any mirror vibration and wanted to know if it's because I have a 2018, its brand new (only ~300 miles), or whether it's because I have the slingshade installed.

    Let's discuss

As @KayTwo would say... There's your problem... How long have you owned a Slingshot? And it hasn't been over 55mph?
    Just give me the keys...

That needs to be your normal... And yes, this is stock (just CAI at the time)...

LOL! I just took it out today for a spin. I hit 60mph but no noticeable vibration coming from the mirrors. In fact, i was very pleased to cruise it today as it got LOTS of attention. I'm a little under 300 miles on it so still breaking it in. The SS has a fair amount of torque down low and it's what makes riding it in so exciting. I can't imagine what a FI SS would feel like.

I haven't noticed vibration in my mirrors. I'll try riding the SS tomorrow morning up above 60mph and see if it vibrates to hell. I do remember going at least 55mph and didn't notice anything abnormal.

It’s really cool to push a switch and it pop on so you can see the full screen behind you going down the road....... I’m catching myself watching this more than looking at the radio...especially with those useless out side mirrors........!

I don't think the mirrors are useless at all. If you set them to wear they are barely have the vehicle in the corners then you got excellent visibility with very little blind spot. I don't worry about who is behind me when riding down the road.
