ok so the cutting is a whole lot easier than i thought. getting the right tool to do it is a different story. cutting the holes was actually more accurate and easier by using a reciprocal saw. the rotary is a little difficult to control straight lines. So far i have the bottom holes cut, i have not gotten to the top holes but going to do those this week. I have two types of screen and trying to decide which to use or which would look better. I think I am going to take pics and put up a poll to see what you guys think.

good luck with keeping it simple lol. once you start adding mods, the fever takes hold and it wont go away. . . . . . . . ever. I am from oklahoma but live in virginia now.

LOL mesh, looks and function, i paid about 20 bucks for the mesh and use a rotary tool or dremel either works to cut it out. I'm good. water Mostly blocked, no gravel worries. and the function of some air flow.

correct, and that is why i am doing the mesh, this will be enough to allow air to rush through, relieving pressure on both the hood and the fender itself. plus the mesh on the bottom allows the water to drain and it gives and overall aesthetic look that is pleasing. Now of course as with all mods done, this is my opinion but I will share the outcome with everyone.

well i will take pics and all that of the stuff and try to keep a good record of it as i go. so i can post it on here for ya. I think the look of it is awesome and even a little air flow is better than NONE that i am getting now.

One thing I did was cut it rough with the vibratory cutter then sanded it to get it perfect flat. Might try using a 2x4 block and some sand paper if you don't have a sander that will fit in the tight spaces.

believe it or not, a file works great, on that type of plastic, the file gets it down and all the rough off and then sanding, followed by wet sanding and very fine paper. but not too hard.

i dont go that far lol. cosmetics sure, but that is something you can usually go back and fix somewhat easily. now structurally i wont mess with it. no playing with that. i am just doing small aesthetics

Last year I was still working and also collecting my social security and as such had some extra discretionary cash that I was using and setting aside for mods, Since retiring at the beginning of the year what few mods I have done have come out that money. once its gone mods will be few and far between. We have set aside funds in different IRA's from our work retirement plans and that money along with our social security has for the most part already been budgeted for very specific purposes. some for day to day living, a bunch for travel, and some for emergencies - - money has never been something my wife and I have differences over - we plan and budget and neither one of us does anything outside of whats already been planned without first consulting with the other. And we both are always very open to any purchase that will make the other happy so long as we can fit it in.

same with us, we discuss everything, especially if it is going to be something 150 or higher. smaller amounts are considered out of pocket and something we manage on our own. so if she wants to go buy shoes then she doesnt have to mention it or consult. same with mods that are 150 or less, if they even exist. wait, do they? lol anyway, like the mesh that i bought and am doing in the fender / mudguards. she doesnt care that i MOD as long as i am not spending a lot.

never stop modding lol. my wife hates that lol. its the little things. my wife will go in the house, come back out and there is something new. shake her head and go to the door and there is a delivery for something new for the sling lmao.

If I am remember correctly, Lrobbi is no longer in the manufacturing business. He still might do small jobs here and there. I have spoken to him in awhile.

As I read this the number one thing that keeps going through my head is how clean the cut is. Once you start the saw or the drill game over it better be good!

Thats the plan. I am going to see if there is a way for me to clamp a straight edge to the piece for help. If not and i am doing it freehand then i plan on drinking a lot of beer ahead of time so i can cope with the outcome a little better lol.

The mesh in the fender / mudguard is a DIY thing. The guy that did those in the photo used a different mesh than what i found. But I think I like mine better. I got it at Home Depot for cheap. I am taking the fenders off today and going to start cutting the openings. I will try to take step by step pics so that i can post them on here with how I did it. I am trying to look up a smaller rivnut than what i have at home. the one i currently have is the same 6MM as most other stuff on the SS and I think that might be a bit big for this application.

My LED lighting on my frame is held on with 3M double stick tape and it is not falling off. Just be sure clean the surface and use 3M primer.

thats true, my lights are the same, but i think the mesh is a little different only due to the fact that it is heavier than the leds and not being held tight over an extended length. I still think i am going to go with the rivnuts. If i did use the tape and the mesh fell off for whatever reason, I could easily go back and buy new mesh, but i am trying to avoid spending money like that lol.
