Love the view from the pass. Use to visit WS a couple of times a month when we were building the new launch control center.

Thanks. I took a look at the instructions and the top frame. It'll work just fine. Ordered a set. Thanks. Needed something for cross country. If we can cross the US using two saddlebags and a roll bag on a Nomad, this should be a piece o cake.

You aren't wrong, Gerald, but with Navy promotions being held up for a few months by the bureaucracy (either Navy or Congress, not sure which), we made a difficult decision to work more and play less for a few months. It's going to eat into our free time for sure, as there is literally no weekend days off until the end of the summer, unless she calls out of work (which has repercussions) or I blow off a Reserve weekend (which I can't do). But we're working to keep some "us" time in there, maybe a couple of date nights per month, and once she finishes her student teaching in a couple months, she'll be able to be back home during the day, which will be nice for the kids (although they do love their grandfather, who is staying with us during the week for a while, and playing "nanny" for us while Heather is in school).
Those reserve weekend really do eat into family time. And annual tours eat up vacation time. Keep at it. All the BS is worth it when you hit the big 60. The military retirement really helps augment the social security. Believe you me...

A older rider once told me you don't quit riding because you get old. You get old because you quit riding.
You get dead when you ride beyond your skills level. Scared the crud outta myself a few months ago. That plus my knees make it hard to maintain the Wing posture for long trips.

Saw my 1st SS parked at WalMart a couple of years ago. Thought it was really cool. Really hit my consciousness when I realized that my motorcycle riding days were numbered. Very heavy sigh...been riding since ‘64. Hard to give up to old age. But, the bright spot is that the Wing will be replaced by a Slingshot.

Display MoreDefinitionand clarification of a piece of military terminology currently used (misused, and abused) by the MSM............
Don’t know about you, but I have been somewhat amazed & amusedby the outpouring of distress regarding the use of the vulgar word “shithole.”(Thanks to John Kerry, who brought the word back from extinction, shall we say“kerfuffle?”)
Now, as an Officer of Marines, I worked very hard at avoidingobscene verbiage, although admittedly some times without success. The avoidanceof profane language was, in truth, a much greater challenge. With regard tovulgar terminology…well let’s say I learned at the feet of the most talentedand original users and creators of vulgar terminology: Marine StaffNon-Commissioned Officers!
The essential element in the deciphering of any language, be itorthodox or non-orthodox, is identifying to what does the word infer or refer. In the case of the word in question, “shithole” refers to a PLACE and not aperson or a people. For one to refer in a vulgar manner to a person or apeople, the appropriate term would be “shithead” or “dickhead” or better yet,the more popular “asshole.”
Typically, the word “shithole” would be used in two consecutiveand highly dependent sentences: “Jeez, what a shithole!” followed immediatelyby “Clean this shithole up!!.” In neither sentence does the word “shithole”refer to its inhabitants, although there may be an asshole or two in the group.
No doubt Marines and our brethren Soldiers clearly comprehendthis distinction. Air Force officers surely would not use such language, andbesides, they have contract laborers to clean things up. Similarly, the use ofthe word would be beneath the dignity of a Navy officer; that’s why they haveChiefs and Swabbies.
Like many of you to whom this email is addressed, I have been toa “shithole” or two in my time. I believe I know of which I speak. Certainly,we have seen our share in SEA, but until you have stood in some wadi shitholein the Sudan or Somalia or Oman, well, you haven’t lived!
So, in the interest of enlightening the over-educated, yetblithely ignorant masses, you have my permission to disseminate the importantdistinction in the use of vulgar terminology I have attempted to illuminate.
Peace be with you. Semper Fidelis!

Display MoreFor the record, I wasn't bragging. Later in my life I've had a few more "go to" toys. Currently have two Harleys in the stable, the SS, two cars, one truck, and a small enclosed trailer. The trailer and my daily driver sit outside, the rest are covered late fall thru spring. I have lived all my life out away from the city, not near the clusters of traffic. That means in translation, that I must drive everywhere. I have a 60 mile commute round trip to work every day. My daily driver can get up to 32 MPG for that commute, and is why I have it. My truck is a great one, but old. It's a 1994 Z71 extended cab with under 135k on it. For my daily drivers, I use either higher mileage 1-2 year old cars, or really low mileage several year old cars. I've always rotated them often, and it shows in the numbers of vehicles I've owned. I'm trying a new approach this time. Current daily is a 2015 Impala Limited LT (older body style) with 50K on it. My commute is all highway, with about 20 blocks of in town driving. Plan to see just how many miles of highway this car can get and stay reliable. When I say the truck is really old, that doesn't bother me that it is. It's still a nice truck for certain, and I'd trust it anywhere.
I have had a few that were really cool though....
The Goat is sweet. Loved the body style of those years.

Display MoreI want to shift back to DACA for a minute. Can some of you more enlightened people tell me why these DACA people did not do a bit of studying, take the test, and become a citizen?
Now as to fight between the parties over control of the country. Do away with ALL parties and just have the AMERICAN party. If your not part of the solution you must be part of the problem.
I know, to simple. You could never make a fifteen thousand page law to collect taxes. You made a hundred grand, send ten percent in, no deductions, not banking company money overseas, no nonsense.
We need to simple down, not complicate up.
LC
It isn’t quite as simple as that. First you have to be LEGALY in the US with a Green Card. Then you start the application process by sending in the application and a check for about $750. Now wait to be called in to have your finger prints and photo taken, pay out another $175. Study your heart out. Wait, wait, wait some more. After a year get a letter telling you to drive across the country for an interview and the test. Now, wait, wait, wait some more. Finally be told that you passed and have been accepted for citizenship. Now wait for a citizenship ceremony locating and date. Go get sworn in. Now, start receiving e-mails that your application is still under review.
That is what my wife just went through. Expensive and nerve wracking.
DECA kids cannot even begin the process because they have no papers allowing them to be here do they can’t even begin the process. If they did start it they would be subject to deportation. They are in a Catch 22 position.
