Cat provides some back pressure, that is why the engine runs better without it. The oxygen sensor in the exhaust manifold
detects the mixture, and provides a signal to the ECM to provide the proper mixture. This is all done before the cat delete pipe.
There is a small cat in the stock muffler, also.

Big dog, every engine equipped with a catalytic converter is set to run a little bit rich, so there is enough fuel in the exhaust to light up the converter. Opening the exhaust allows more air to flow through the air pump. (engine). The computer controls may need to be driven for a bit, 4-6 miles, to reset the mixture. It will reset to the reprogrammed mixture. HTH, YMMV....

Dave, thank you for that answer. I appreciate how many people are willing to help on this forum.
I especially enjoyed your explanation on the performance differences of a belt driven supercharger vs a turbocharged engine.
I will be modifying my sling slowly, and doing my best to keep it reliable, and fun! :P

that would be way down the road for me. I worked on some of the old Ford's with the supercharger, 1950s version, and various turbocharged engines in the 70s and 80s. They left a bad impression, but quality has greatly improved since then.
Right now, I just want a little more power, and solid reliability. I am tired of high maintenance vehicles!!

Funcycle, that's how I like to experience snow, seeing it somewhere else! The catalytic delete pipe will do me for now,
unless I hit the lottery! ( guess I should get a ticket....)

last February was nice, but I'm not counting on good weather until April at least. Yes, I rode in cold weather in the 70's, but no more of that now. I just don't like cold weather anymore!

Everyone, I greatly appreciate all of the advice. Please no 'fights'. You all have different experiences, and I wish to benefit
From your experiences. I am simply gonna go with the cat delete pipe and go from there.

No emissions testing here in this area. I'll take the chance! Also there is a secondary catalytic converter built into the muffler.
This is the kind of knowledge and experience I'm grateful to benefit from!!!

FunCycle, you're running the stock muffler, but with the catalytic converter delete pipe, correct?
This would be great. I don't see a turbo in my future, too many bad memories from the late 70s and early 80s working on them!

OK, for what it's worth, I do want to get rid of the catalytic converter. BUT any engine with a catalytic converter has a fuel system
That is set up on the "rich" side of the air-fuel ratio. This is so the catalytic converter will have enough fuel to light up and burn clean. I just don't want to smell it! Also, the wifey is really sensitive to fumes.....
I can't afford to try multiple exhaust systems to find the best one. I'm hoping the more experienced members can help me out on this.
I am open to having a small rear spoiler, and possibly a wind restrictor behind the head rests.
I do appreciate all help and advice!!

before I get my F4+3 windshield, which exhaust system can I get to make sure I have no exhaust fumes in the cockpit?
Is there any system better than the rest? I don't want really loud pipes. Just better performance than stock.
Does the wind break behind the cockpit really help?
I'm on a limited budget, (retired) and would like to get it right on the first try!

I'm in East central Indiana, and would like advice on a good Polaris dealer. The two nearest me are Ontarget, in Sunmen, Indiana, or Flat out motor sports in Indianapolis. Any advice or opinions?
