@Bill Martin. Sorry for the verbal puke I'm about to do, but I'm a bit like @BONES and tired of it all...

I think there is a balance to everything. I am VERY much for capitalism and hate big government. Don't like regulations. It's kind of like seat belt laws... I ware my seat belt as I believe the data behind waring one makes it a smart thing to do. But I also don't like to be told you must ware one. If people want to not ware one... so be it. I call that natural selection and maybe increase the average IQ a little in this country. The issue is that when the stupid people get sick and expect that they are entitled to free health care because they didn't want to pay for anything but cheeper insurance with very little benefits, then sucks to be you. There is a reason and place for mandatory health care as I don't have to pay for some dumb ass who didn't want to pay for insurance. There is a balance, that is all I'm saying. But why should my family pay $25K for health insurance UNDER ACCA when others get it for free? And just so I'm clear, I believe in medical across the board and a flat tax. This doesn't make me a Liberal, it just levels out the playing field as I'm tired of paying $25K for health insurance per year with no discounts because I don't qualify for shit as I've worked my ass off and been successful. Supreme court... well, that's a shit storm as I don't feel as though I should HAVE TO live by the same values of the last 200 years as I just want to be left alone to live how I want to. I'd be more than happy to hear what those values are and pick the ones I want for myself. All I have to do though is look at the people who go to church and know that they aren't living their lives as the good book suggests and see the hypocrisy. My brother was "born again" and watches porn all the time saying "God knows I'm week and will forgive me"... he's a hypocrite. Period. I don't want anyone telling me how to live. I believe in Pro Choice not because I believe in abortion... on the contrary, I most certainly do not and I choose life. But I shore in crap don't want anyone telling me I'm wrong nor will I say you are wrong for your views. Leave me the hell alone and I'll leave you alone. We are too regulated in this country for everything and why... we must have more stupid people than the rest of the world... must be. I like my guns too and eating fatty foods, but I know both can kill me in excess and I don't need 40 + guns or 3 square meals of lard and I choose not to have or do either.

Sounds like your kinduva libertarian to me and that is not a bad thing. I am a life long Republican cause I got no place else to go with a viable candidate for me. I like what you say about Obamacare - it really sucks if you have been successful!! I, like you, believe in personal responsibility for the choices you make. The liberal Dems wanna make decisions for us that will take more and more out of our pockets and give it to the slackers. The Rep talk a good game but don’t seem smart enough to get out of their own way. Now we are 8 years moving left now looks like at least of 4 years undoing all of that. Where does that leave us??? Trillions of dollars further in debt and we the taxpayer don’t seem to be any better off. Until We the People wise up and vote out every elected official and keep doing so until things change for the better - it won’t!!

@SaltyClownNY I cannot agree with your previous post more. However, the main point I have stressed since way before the election it was and is not the major issue. Presidents go and come. Congress is and was broken for many years now. You probably won’t agree with this as you appear to lean a little left but the main thing Trump will do and has began already is stopping the Supreme Court from having a liberal majority. The Supreme Court has way more power over your day to day life than the President and Congress. With a liberal court you could very easily see all the values of the last 200 years disappear. If you are anti capitalism, for big government, and for the social and environmental police dictating your every move - then I could see where Hellary was your man ;(

So your saying we would have been better off with Hillary at the wheel ??? ?(

its cyclical. Between school, poverty, family constructs, and other social and economic drivers, its a cycle that hasn't been broken yet.
For instance, man gets arrested for a crime committed for whatever reason. Woman is left to care for kids. Kids are in a school that performs below national standards. Mom has to work 3 jobs just to keep a roof, kid doesnt know if there is going to be food. Kid drops out to find work to help pay for siblings, gets involved in illegal activities, gets arrested, and the cycle repeats. Even if they don't drop out studies have acknowledged that school perfoemance is affected by outside stressors like... Oh, lack of food and parental involvement. Kid can't get into a good school, gets a job making minimum wage in the same district, cycle repeats. Happens in poor white communities too, although those have a tendency to be in rural vice urban areas.

I agree with you my semi liberal sister :P and also with @Orangeman. The public assistance program needs to be reconstructed. I think that we all could agree that a woman that becomes pregnant and the father skips out deserves to be helped. On the other hand if that same woman continues to have more and more children requiring more and more support at the taxpayer’s expense is a problem. Welfare should not have incentives that make you want to stay in it forever...and generations

Maybe Politically involved threads might best be kept to the proper forums instead of a Slingshot forum.

I realize you are a “newbie” to this forum. I started this thread as a charter member when the forum was created. This thread has been a place to discuss opinions and debate issues and is one of the largest longest running threads on this forum to the entertainment of many. Should you find it inappropriate you might try finding the “Ignore” button. Thank you for your input

I'm not going to disagree with your statement at all. What I will say is that many of the neighborhoods that you dare not drive through are fallout from the Jim Crow laws. African Americans were limited to where they could get housing. Literally they could not get a mortgage if it wasn't for a particular neighborhood. Do white neighborhoods have a similar reason?
I'm not trying to be argumentative, I am just trying to say that there is a reason behind the protests. Now, how 'bout North Korea.

Sis - you are correct - I just believe that Kaepernick is not the right messenger and the NFL playing field is not the right forum.

Talk about humor - saw Larry Flynt the huge supporter of women’s rights thru porn production and Hustler Magazine has offered $10 million dollars for info leading to the impeachment of Trump. I like a good porno or naked hot women just as much as the next guy but for this guy to get up on a soapbox is just another instance of how hypocritical the left really is !!
Not like it is his first time though

And a guy that displays his respect for our legal system certainly should be leading the charge

Trump signs executive order allowing health insurance companies across state lines. Whether you are in Trump’s corner or not you gotta give him props for that. Been talk of it for years but never happened. Promoting the free market has to help reduce medical insurance quagmire and best of all it cost us the stroke of a pen !!! Obama - take YOUR pen and shove it up your ..... !!! :D

Just saw this morning that the Boy Scouts will now start to accept girls due to falling memberships in recent years. I guess I am officially reached “curmudgeon” status. It seems that all the values, beliefs and views are all outdated and day by day I see them summarily discarded. It appears I erroneously blamed Obama for the country’s ever flowing tide to the left. Thought it would be curbed somewhat with the election of Trump - which it has on some major issues. It is the small issues that you see daily below the radar of the national news is what is disturbing. Seems like life was so much simpler in my youth. Patriotism was taught in school as we all stood by our desks pledging allegiance to the flag. We ate what the school served without the input from the food police. There was no question about what bathroom we were supposed to go to. Girl Scouts held their own meetings and sold great cookies. The boys had their own learning how to camp. Gun safety was taught by our grandfathers and they were not vilified for doing so. Men and women could work together and you did not have to worry about a sexual harassment case just because your off color joke was overheard (that is NOT sexual harassment). Police have difficult jobs (some bad apples as in any profession) and were appreciated - respected. When you heard news reports from Walter Cronkite, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley you didn’t have to fact check it or worry about left or right bias. People were proud of their country and its rich heritage and not wanting to rewrite anything they did not like or agree with. I could go on and on but it looks like our country has set sail far away from the course of yesteryear. I am sure the “enlightened” younger generation would say it is long overdue. I don’t think so !! A final thought - how many of you had a grandparent or parent tell you “We’re going to hell in a handcart”. Could you imagine if those that are gone could be brought back what they would say?? I’d imagine many would say “What the hell have y’all done”!! At least I could tell my Dad “I’m as grumpy as you were about it”
