The wife and I are heading to the Waynesville area early this coming Sunday morning. We will be in the area till the end of the month, part of the time staying with friends who also have an SS. We were at the Maggie Valley SS show this past summer and as a results, now both have new toys.

They live a mile from Ferguson Supply where the Rattler intersects highway 209. We went up to Hot Springs in a pickup when we were there this past summer. Looking forward to taking the SS up. We also expect to ride the Diamondback loop, the Snake, the Blue Ridge and of course the Dragon.

If anyone will be in the area from the 16th on and would like to get together, post me.

Attached are some images of the utility trailer I beat intosubmission to haul the SS. It has been completer since I took these photos. Before you whine about how it looks, remember I’m all about functional, not somuch about pretty.

The camera went out a week or so back - blue screen of death, as it were. I should get around to checking the tail lights tomorrow.

I've been making a mod on a utility trailer that should make loading easy. No issues with tire width as the wheels are to the rear of the trailer wheels. The SS will be riding backwards on the trailer and is also less likely to be hit by road debris. The rear tire of the SS will be about 4 or 5 feet back from the front of the trailer. I did consider the weight but the engine is mid ship, as you know and the rear axle will be about at the front of the engine. Dual axels have much less of a desire to sway when loaded too heavy to the rear. Nearly all of the weight will be forward of the rear axle so I don't see it could ever be an issue. I will post images when it's done. One thing to remember when you see something I've built - "functional, not pretty".

I was in the driveway with no noticeable wind with the engine running when the smoke appeared right behind the passenger’s head just past the middle of the rear deck. I did not see exactly where it was coming from but did not notice any in the cockpit as I was more interested in getting my granddaughter out. I think it came out at or near the top of the deck.

I ask the previous owner about “heated seats” and he had no knowledge of them? It does have wires attached towards the rear of each seat running in wire loom but I see nothing in the manual and no switch is apparent, that I can see, to turn them on. Did the 2016 have heated seats or were they an option?

Yes Shatneyman, exactly what I envisioned.

Macaws, I have a setup on my truck with a power pole mounted in the grill that matches one on the end of heavy jumper cables. I’ve been able to keep up with this set for years because no one can use them without the truck.

Bigdog, It definitely smelled like the plastic coating on wires. The smoke appeared behind the passenger seat more or less.

    The saga continues
I removed the center tail light assembly for a look see inside the rear housing. I see no burnt wires and the camera wires appear to be intact. I removed the radio and see nothing amiss there but did discover two layers of insulation that apparently was added by the previous owner to protect the radio. I removed the battery cover and the three fuses there check good. I hope I never need a jump start, especially if I’m stopped in a wet location. You need to stand on your head and use a snorkle. I think I would figure out how to run a heave hot wire to some location more accessible for jump starting, assuming there is no place under the hood you can do that. I checked the fuses in the panel up front and found a 20-amp fuse blown. The cover indicates it is for the horn so that doesn’t explain the smoke coming from the rear of the SS unless of course the horn is in the rear. I put everything back together and turned the key to the on position and waited a minute or so. Again no smoke so I started it up and let it idle for several minutes and it didn’t burst into flames – a good thing. I guess whatever went away yesterday is no longer an issue. I’ll let the dealer deal with it next time I’m in unless something else goes sideways.

BTW: Someone wanted to know if ther was an extra jack on the rear where external audio could be injected. Nothing on this one - 2016.

Is there a wiring diagram that can be downloaded? I can check for a short if I know which wire feeds the camera then disconnect it so I won’t need to haul it to the dealer.

I’m not sure if this is a major malfunction or not, but I started the SS this afternoon to take my granddaughter for a ride. Shortly after lighting the fire, smoke appeared behind and above the passenger side seat indicative of plastic wiring giving up the ghost. My question is, how big an issue is it getting into the rear of an SS? I suspect it may have to do with the backup camera as it quit a few days back. You would think the fuse would have averted that but who knows. It is under warranty but I may need to haul it about 100 miles to the dealer if I can’t find the culprit and at least unhook it.

A trucker pointed at the rear of my SS this morning indicating a door was open. I pulled off to check and found the right saddlebag door open. Nothing fell out but my friend had the same thing a while back and I noticed when I first unlocked them that the driver side is near impossible to close. It appears someone added some washers under the inner part of the latch but the striker bolt hits the lower edge of the latch assembly when you close it. I have to lift up hard on the door to make it latch. Seems they should fit much better for the price. Anyone else having this issue? I can make a mod to fix it but that should not be necessary. I'll have the dealer look at it when I take it in for a replacement part one of their guys shorted out when installing under dash lighting. I also just had the backup camera go out – screen goes blank with a green color? Surely there is nothing in the menu gone awry?

I'm not ungrateful, just been locked out of the forum. Tried to get in with my cell and thinkthat's what caused the major malfunction. Thanks to Robert, all is well.

I’m apparently the new kid on this block so a bit of info about how I arrived here might be fitting. I got interested in the SS while were visiting a friend in Fines Creek just north Waynesville NC. We dropped into the Maggie Valley SS show one day to check them out and the XYLs followed later in the day. I’m sure I met some of you either there or in Hot Springs the day before. There was a group of about 8 or so just off main street that has stopped in for lunch. My wife made the statement “that’s something we can do together”. I can’t say I’ve ever heard her make a statement anything remotely resembling that remark so it understandably got my attention. In the interim, my friend located one loaded with bling and such and it followed him home. That was the final shot, so to speak. A couple of weeks ago, I was heading to Agent Orange for some building materials for a remodel we’re doing at our place in Okeechobee when I saw one setting out front of the Golden Trough. I know the manager there so we haggled a bit and made the deal– a 2016 with less than 2900 miles. The funny part about it was, his wife fell in love with a cabin in the North Georgia mountains, just north of Blairsville, that she just had to have, hence the sale for the down payment. I told him he was an idiot as he was buying a place right next door to the Dragon and miles of roads ideally suited for the SS. He admitted he may be forced to get a new one. Our friends will be heading back to FL in October and pulls his pickup behind his Monaco so I ask how he expected to get the SS back. He said he would ship it so I suggested I would load ours onto the gooseneck and we would come up and ride the Dragon and the Diamondback, which begins just a couple of miles from his ranch in Fines Creek NC. We’ll load them both on the trailer for the return trip to Fl.

First off I would like to thank everybody as I’m completely overwhelmed by the response. I’ve been a member of several forums for years and at best, get one or two responses, if any, to any question I may ask. I always thought It was because I had forgotten to brush my teeth! I will answer as best I can, questions from several of you. I am running the stock exhaust and don’t mind the side exit. The XYL hasn’t expressed any displeasure pertaining to excessive heat as it does have the heat shields, both inside and out. I would like to have a deeper sound so I’ll try the cat delete as Zen Master said. Who has the extension tube for the switch or do I need to have one built? I’m not so much into eye wash as functionality so piping the exhaust out the back it no biggie for me. I noted the “wind deflector” at the top of the windshield in one of the images posted by Mytoy. It is plenty warm here in Sebring Fl in the afternoon and I noticed I can hold my hand at an angle just below the front left corner of the roof and direct air down into the cabin. I have some Lexan on the CNC table at the moment so I will cut a piece about 3x6 or so and put it on a swivel mount for one of the extra mirrors I have. If I like it, I’ll post some images.
    Thanks again guys and Gals.

I see a few post about exhaust fumes in the cabin with aftermarket systems, especially the WP. Last post I found was from April. We have the heat shield but I want to lose the cat and change the tone. I have the V-Back Slingshot Canvas Roof Top and saddle bags if that is an issue. Any updates guys and gals?
    Thanks,
