I did that, with no regard for breaking anything, gripped the steering wheel at 3 and nine then pulled back and side to side yelling , "get the fuck off you piece of shit!!!". If you work up enough anger it WILL come off. Oh and loud angry cursing is the key. ;)
Leave the nut on there as @BKL said, the wheel can come off with equal anger towards you if it isn't contained. :D

I did it the easy way and bought shorter bolts for the puller (saved a lot a cussin). Worked like a charm then even though it was real tight. And when I put it back on I tightened the nut till it just touched the steering wheel. Steers like a dream now. If you tighten it to much I think it pinches a c clip or something and makes it hard to steer. Unfortunately replacement of the clock spring did not fix that other problem so I will have to take it apart again to see why the right blinker keeps shutting off before I even make the turn. If I turn the right blinker on and turn the wheel just a little to the left it shuts off the blinker.

Loosen the center nut holding the steering wheel on, but leave it with several threads still holding the nut on and use your hand or a rubber hammer to work the steering wheel loose. The nut keeps the wheel from flying off and hitting you/.

    tried that... no workey.

I got a pretty good deal on my 2017 SLR but it was a better deal then I expected, found out from the dealer I have one year of warrant and extended warranty till 2022. Many thanks to the previous owner for that free gift. I think I'm going to need it... had the dealer replace the clock spring today and now it steers hard as hell. Hurts my left hand to drive it. Tried to pull the steering wheel off with my steering wheel puller and it bent the bolts, need to get shorter bolts and try again. When I was at the dealership I thought I heard a jack hammer being used on something... I think I know what they were using it on. :(

    Hind sight is always 20/20.

What a true statement! To begin with I had no intention of buying any wheels. Then someone posted up a "relatively" cheap tire that would fit the rear of the my sling. Realizing the fact that I am only at 3k and have already ordered a much needed new rear tire I reflected on the fact that during my shopping I learned not every tire place keeps a 305 30R20 laying around. With that fact in mind I went ahead and ordered that "relatively" cheap tire to keep on hand should I ruin one and have an immediate need for a "spare". After ordering the "relatively" cheap tire I decided that maybe it would be a good idea to take a look at buying a wheel to mount it on. My thoughts here were that if something serious enough happened to ruin a tire it might also ruin the wheel and if I had the "spare" already mounted it would be a quick change and be back in service. I looked on the web and quickly found a decent looking wheel that the tire would fit nicely on at a "relatively" cheap price and ordered it. Now I do a little more thinking,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,something I should have done more of way earlier in this story,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Since having a "relatively" cheap "spare" for the rear is such a good idea it might also be a good idea to have at least one laying around for the front. It might also be a good idea to get the same style "spare" wheel for the front as I did for the rear. You guessed it,,,,,,,,,,,,they don't make that style wheel in the size that I need for the front!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now if I get my spares to match I will have to buy two more new wheels in a different style. Can anyone see where this "relatively" cheap project is going? From now on if you find something "relatively" cheap for your sling,,,,,,,,,,,just keep it to yourself!!! :00000028::00008862: I can't afford any more bargains. :00007510:

I think that was me who got you started on all this.... I'm so proud of myself! :D

That would not be an easy task to achieve. The rear lenses are glued to the housing. They aren't just sealed like headlights.

That's good info... I have the tint bookmarked but have not read any instructions other than wet sanding before you paint. Still on the fence on if I'm going to do it or not.
