On a stock engine and ECU, I understand redline is 6200 rpm but can someone tell me when the rev limiter cuts in?

What are the risks vs benefits of running the engine up to the rev limiter on hard acceleration? Or is going beyond the redline something you should only do in error? (Does the ECU record it and is it something Polaris might use to void the warranty on your engine?)

My engine is well broken-in now (10,000 miles) so I'm done with babying it. I drive a twisty road in 3rd gear with revs sustained in the 4000-6000 range, which I assume is not doing it any harm. But I do worry about hitting or exceeding redline.

    Thanks for any feedback.

Just bought the Slingshot 3 months ago and it just seems the improvements I could install are endless!! It's pretty sad for the price of a stock unit. For the same money I could have bought a Goldwing!! Don't get me wrong.... the wife and I love our Slingshot... but it seems we didn't get much bang for our buck from the factory

I'm running a stock SL and I'm not swapping out any stock parts until they wear out or break. I'm getting plenty of fun and performance just the way it is.

We have a country road here that is 30 miles long, twisty, hilly, sometimes bumpy, and usually quite vacant. I can't even begin to express how much fun I've had going back and forth on that road without any mods at all.

You don't need to mod this thing to have a blast!

I looked into a toy hauler at one time. Unless you are willing to put out big money for a lifting ramp it is not possible. The ramp entry point and apex are to steep. If someone has different info, I would interested

I did a bit of research into Toy Haulers too, and I agree the ramp is an issue. I wonder if the ramp angles could work if your Slingshot had an air-ride kit installed and was set to max height for loading/unloading?

Let me know if the changes I made are better. It wont change anything that has been uploaded BEFORE I made the change ,,, just images uploaded after the change.

I use Chrome on Windows at 1080 HD (1920x1080). I get the impression that, when uploaded, the largest images get downsized to just 1024x768 max (based on testing since your change). That saved resolution is just too low to get more detail from it even if I zoom in on it. IMHO, I'd suggest at least doubling it (to HD or close to it).

And sorry for sidetracking the thread.

Is it just my eyesight or does this forum resize images too small for people of a certain age? Even in the magnified view they never get large enough to see details (like text, or mod details).

Let me start with a word of caution... don't try this until you read the rest of my post. You might break something.

Out of curiosity only (no immediate need), I wanted to see if it was possible to push-start / bump-start / roll-start my Slingshot. So while rolling at low speed I started to let the clutch out, only to discover that the rear tire was starting to drag and the engine was not even hinting that it might start to turn over. And I don't think the rear tire was skidding just due to the low weight in the rear or poor friction with the road.

I've done push-starts before in other manual cars and this felt very different. It felt as if the engine was completely locked up. I tried this a couple more times, releasing the clutch even more gently, and I'm convinced the engine is not going to turn over. I think fully releasing the clutch at anything more than a crawl could lead to broken parts.

To answer the basics... ignition was in the On position, start button was glowing red, battery condition was good, gearbox was in 1st gear. If it makes any difference, this is a Canadian 2016.5 SL. And it starts just fine using the button.

Is there some kind of ignition interlock that prevents the engine from turning over? Is this a Canadian thing? ?(

I suspect there are more of us Canadians on the forums but that not everyone has added a pin to the map yet. So here's one way to do it:

Great side-discussion guys, but can you humour me and play along with my original request too? Thanks.

Thanks for the original post. Bumping this thread for 2017.

I was looking at the site and it is obviously aimed at motorcycles. Has anyone done one of these rides with a Slingshot, and how were you received?

It looks like you are pretty independent (eg. you pick your own start point) so I'm thinking you could just do the ride anyway even if they won't accept you as an entry?

Victoria, BC (in the Vancouver Island area)

I'm especially looking for fellow Slingshot owners or enthusiasts anywhere on Vancouver Island. I believe there are at least 5 or 6 more Slingshots around and I'm trying to make contact.

My friend and I (both in Victoria) recently bought Slingshots. Mine is Red and his is Blue. I'm also aware of a Red one in Sooke and a White one in Tahsis (hey @wobbly ). I think there have been a few others sold on the island that I haven't nailed down yet. If you're on these forums, speak up, I'd be interested to hear your experiences and get ideas for places to ride.

I was looking for Slingshot owners in my area and I noticed the Forum Map for Canada is pretty sparse.

I suspect there are more of us Canadians on the forums but that not everyone has added a pin to the map yet. So here's one way to do it:

    - FOLLOW THIS LINK to add your own location (you must be logged into the forum first).
    - Below the map is a Location search bar. Type in your Postal Code, give it a moment, and pick the result that appears.
    - If you don't want to be more specific about your address then just hit the Submit button now.
    - If you want to be more accurate about your address then you can Zoom the map and drag the pin, or type in a more specific address, then hit the Submit button.

And to help even further, add a reply to this thread with your general location in Canada and a bit of info about yourself.

    Thanks!

p.s. There's also a new non-forum map that you can update. More info HERE.
