Lots of different variations of cutting the hood open... May be a lot of different pics in the gallery.

Depends. If you want to leave the hood on the frame, you can use the frame as a guide for your cuts. Others have completely removed the hood and just left the frame. If you've got it, a router works good to cut the hood while still on the frame..

I was reading the Installation instructions for the DDM Works Hood Vents and was initially expecting to see a template for the cuts, but discovered they just recommended using a regular 1/4" drill bit and drilling a starting hole at one of the corners of the sub-frame openings and then following the perimeter of the sub-frame opening while using the center section of the drill bit to cut out the opening. I bought this set of side-cutting drill bit at Harbor Freight - https://www.harborfreight.com/…l-bit-set-3-pc-61554.html. After purchasing the special drill bits, I realized they may remove too much material when cutting areas where the perimeter of the sub-frame openings may not have as rigid a perimeter as the openings marked by the Blue arrows in the attached picture. Using these specialized side-cutting drill bits when cutting areas where the sub-frame openings don't have a rigid perimeter (marked by the Red arrows in the picture) may remove too much material and better results might be obtained using a Dremel, vibrating trim saw or a regular drill bit which will not remove material as quickly as the specialized drill bits referenced above.

Hate to say it Robbym but it takes lots of filing, sanding, and a good painter. Also, you have to control yourself and only cut small amounts until you get the amount out you want to remove. I used a vibrating saw to cut mine. It doesn’t usually melt the plastic.

So there is a bunch of filling?

.....i remember back in the 90s a friend was in my garage with his kawasaki motorcycle and wanted to remove some decals from his bike & picked up my heat gun, now i told him to put it down but he insisted he could do it and preceded to heat the decal up and began a conversation with someone who was also there and took his eyes off of his fairing & melted the fairing so bad he needed another decal to cover the big bubble hole he created, needless to say every time he visits me, he never asks to touch my tools again........i might do alot of work but this cutting of the hood, though nice scares me........

I used a vibrating saw. Drill 1/2" holes in all corners. Rough cut first staying away from the edges, then clean final cuts. A little filing of the edges and everything was good. Im actually thinking of countersinking them too.

Pics. Scarier to cut the hood than a DIY Vasectomy.
