I guess I asked for that!
Anybody have any idea if the 2020 Angle Drive will fit older models

My Angle Drive noise kept getting worse and got to the point that I was afraid of breaking down and then not being able to get a replacment in a timely manner, so I ordered one from Ronnie's Mail Order (http://www.ronniesmailorder.com). They had it listed at $1372.79 with FREE shipping, so I figured I give it a try before mine broke. They definitely had the BEST price I could find and FREE shipping was an added bonus! I ordered it March 14 and it was delivered March 25. Overall, I feel Ronnie's Mail Order did a great job packing the new Angle Drive with plenty of bags of foam foamed inside the box that allowed zero movement of the Angle Drive. Unfortunately, UPS seems to have the box on its side long enough that some of the lube leaked out of the top vent, getting a lot of oil on the casing and drive pulley. See attached pics -
Now I just need to figure out when I want to try and get the transplant done. I plan on trying to do it myself, but if anyone in the Houston area is interesting in providing assistance, please PM me! If I luck out and one of the local Slingshot techs wants to contact me about helping/doing it for me on the side, definitely PM me!

so did you actually get confirmation that this unit will fit and work with the drive belt and other spec differences?

I checked several different Parts sources and they all list the Angle Drive pn 1333909 as fitting all Slingshots from 2015 - 2019.
Here's a list of the parts sellers I checked before ordering -
Polaris Slingshot™ OEM Parts, CyclePartsNation Polaris Parts Nation

I hope it fits. But I was thinking about the different ratios for tranny and drive belt.

The 2020 and later Angle Drive looks like ti should also fit, based on posts from Dave@DDMWorks, but he has pointed out that the 2020 Angle Drive is geared differently. See Post #7 on this thread's first page.

With that being said, using the newer 2020 angle drive should be a plus. Having more webbing should increase the strength of the case, and the higher ratio gearing (lower numerically) should help cut down on tire spin. It would be neat to see a side by side testing of 2 2015 ish models with the same mods (turbo or s/c) and only difference being the angle drives. it could be enough to justify swapping them out while the original ones still work so you have a spare. Just wonder if the gear noise is reduced in the new design

The main drawback to using the 2nd gen Angle Drive in the 1st gen Slingshots would be the speedometer/odometer inaccuracy. It would have been nice if the stronger 2nd gen casing could accept the 1st gen gears so we could enjoy the benefits of the stronger casting w/o screwing up our speedo/odo readings. Unfortunately, the part counts for the 2 different designs are not the same, so transplanting the necessary parts would be difficult if not impossible. Certainly beyond my meager mechanical skills.

Speedometer? What is that SPEEDOMETER to which you speak?

It's part of the display that helps me know when I need to buy more gas (or relieve myself)!

I can't see mine most of the time because of the Sun. I have my cell phone mounted on the dash with a speedometer app running. Big 2" numbers I cam see.

I have 2 old cell phones that are no longer registered on any network that I've been keeping around to use to take pics & movies and I want to test them to see if they can run apps such as speedo or time to speed acceleration or GPS w/o being on any network. It's my understanding that some apps use signals from ground-based cell towers to make them more accurate, so there may be a chance that those apps will not reliably work if not connected to a network

That's a good idea I do have a IPhone 7 laying around. With out a provider I am not sure how to get the app to it.

As long as you can connect an Android phone to a WiFi network, it can access the Google Play Store. I'd hope Apple allows the same.
-
Thanks I will look into that.

Apple has no use for connecting to the Google Play Store...
JK, know what you meant. You’re correct, wifi is all you need. -

I'm not one to complain over the years about loud whine coming from the back end(not my backend). But the whine this year is almost unbearable. I have 80,000 on my 2015. I've tried all kinds of gear oil. So that isn't the problem. Belt is aligned correctly. I just tried belt dressing but no difference. Also tried washing with no difference. It's a very loud whine. Maybe the belt needs replacement? I don't really expect a fix. I'm just whining?

Sling II was squealing real bad under load the tech tighten it up a little, according to him. no noise now. This was last week. I had never had the problem with Sling I, before or after the swing arm replacement
