Rear wheel

  • I have a 19 SL, I was wondering if anyone makes, or if it would fit, a 16 or 17” wheel for the rear ? I’ve been looking, and if you could get a high profile tire on the rear, I was hoping it would make for a more comfortable ride. From what I can figure though, the only way to get a wider sidewall, is to get a smaller wheel. Thanks

  • The base models had smaller wheels, I think the front were 18 in and some of the guys have used the same size all the way around. The 18 should work for you. A lot of the dealers have 'used' (take off) wheels that can be bought at a fair price. Those wheels weren't as 'nice' as on the upper models. You could also check with Mitch at RevDynamics --- all kinds of new and take off wheels and tires...

You'd get a better ride by tossing away the stock shocks and go with an adjustable set from DDM. You can adjust the ride based on your driving needs from a full lazy boy soft to a teeth rattling extra firm. If you are able to make it to Maggie Valley next month, there will be a LOT of Slingshots that have replaced their shocks that would be willing to show you the difference

    Nobody gets outta here ALIVE

  • Yeah, I have 17" all the way around. Running 315/35 r17 on all 4 wheels on my quad.

If you have a big brake kit, you may want to double check clearance. I have just a few mm of clearance with the DDM front big brake kit, but it works.

Here are info on my wheels/tires before I put the quad on. I kept the same setup and just added a 4th : Wheels & Tires

You need better shocks the stock shocks are not that good.

  • Going with a taller sidewall brings two benefits. A smoother ride and the taller tire effectively reduces the final gear ratio for better mileage and hopefully, less slipping of the Slingshot's rear tire. If you can find a used S model stock rear wheel, that should be the cheapest route to go. If you want to go with a wider wheel/tire combo and aren't too concerned about shifting your rear tire a little off-center to the left, many Mustang wheels will fit your lug pattern, but most Mustang rear wheels have offsets in the mid-high 20 mms up to the mid 30s. I have used an American Muscle (http://www.americanmuscle.com) 17" x 10.5" (28 mm Offset) 10th Anniversary Cobra style wheel to run a 315/35ZR17 tire on the rear of my 2015 Base Slingshot. I have also used a Circuit Performance (http://www.circuitperformance.com) CP32 18" x 10.5" 35 mm Offset wheel to mount a 305/30ZR18 tire.

The Discount Tire Tire Size Calculator (https://www.discounttire.com/learn/tire-size-calculator) will provide you an accurate assessment of the impact of the tire change on your speedometer/odometer readings. http://www.willtheyfit.com will show you a visualization of how different tire/wheel/offset combinations will fit compared to your stock tire/wheel/offset configuration, but WillTheyFit's speedo numbers are not accurate, so I recommend DT's Calculator for the speedo impact estimates.
