Transmission suddenly has gotten really hard to shift

Waow that doesn't sound good. I have 71000 on my Sling and it still shifts smooth as butter. Of course I changed the transmission fluid myself a 50k.

Is it only in one gear or all of them?

If one gear, which gear?

Have you checked the fluid in your clutch reservoir?

Have you checked the fluid in your transmission?

Check your clutch fluid. If the clutch isn't fully disengaging, shifting will be hard. If it isn't that, things get more expensive. If the clutch needs to be replaced, replace the hydraulic clutch activator at the same time since the engine & trans must be removed for either procedure and no point having to do it twice.

Just add fresh fluid and pump like you are churning butter

97,000 miles trans oil has been change 3 times with no problems. I also say to make sure that the clutch fluid is full.

is that an indication of the clutch switch going bad? It’s magnetic like the brake switch.

Have others change the clutch switch to a manual one like the brake switch?

I will go out on a limb here and say that you may or may not have an issue with your clutch switch but that has absolutely nothing to do with the way the transmission shifts. When you depress the clutch pedal and everything is working correctly the clutch will be disengaged and allow you to shift regardless if there is even a clutch switch on it at all. The clutch switch is there to give the ECM a signal that the clutch pedal is depressed or not and the ECM will allow or disallow certain things based on that information but even the ECM has no effect on whether the transmission shifts or not. jes my .o2

Clutch switch will also shut down the cruise control if it is still active.

is there a mechanical clutch switch replacement? Like the one for the brakes...

When I was a kid, I had the same trouble with my 1974 Ford Pinto. Turned out to be a simple linkage problem if I remember right. Had the linkage adjusted and it was fine.
