Bad enough when your car with windows closed is the target of a bombing run,
but the slingshot brings a whole lot more hatred for them. 
I wonder how much trouble I'd get into if I used my shotgun for a little target practice.
I never was fond of seagulls on bombing missions

Got to admit whenever I see a large bird, be it seagull, raven, hawk - heck even a pigeon and I know its flight path is going to take it over me just in front when driving the sling I cringe hoping it wont pick that moment to take a dump - - - been lucky so far, but I still cringe
As to the shotgun as Ej says I doubt they are protected, but depending on where you are located at the time discharging the shotgun might come with legal issues

unfortunately for my slingshot. I moved to a condo in a rebuilt old mill on the penobscot river next to a large dam and with the water so high for spring melt off covering the rocks and small islands, they are flying in large formations over the parking area making their displeasure known.

If there is no covered parking then I guess a car cover would be your next best bet.
When I was young I grew up in Arcadia California right behind the Los Angeles Arboretum - The city of Arcadia is known for its peacocks dang things walk the streets and at night fly up and sit in the trees and thing disturbs them and they go off like a damd alarm sounds like they are yelling "HELP!!! HELP!!!" - - - dang things are huge and they a dump big or bigger than you would get from a small to medium dog - hell on cars - - - - - unfortunately they are protected - - many a time I would have loved to get my shotgun out

One time while I was driving my 1983 Z I was showered by seagull crap. Headed straight for the car wash. Fortunately I never been hit along Commercial Street in Portland
