Right before Covid struck we had an amazing trip planned through Moab Canyon lands and Monument Valley. Somehow every year something comes up and we’re not able to do it. Doesn’t look like it’s going to happen this year as well as Edward already said it’s getting too darn hot in the desert…. Maybe next year🧐. Jealous!
Utah and AZ are some of my most favorite places to ride... I have done Monument Valley a few times and even took my Can-Am on the dirt road out to get closer to the monuments... It always amazes me that water formed most of that land with wind coming in second... This time (probably my 4th) going past Forrest Gump Point... I didn't stop because Forrest wasn't there....
Next year... get out there early... From where you live I bet the problems I have getting over and or around the mountains with the snow and cold never really comes up. I left Flagstaff at about 7am and it was a comfortable 70 degrees...by time I got to where the east entrance to the Grand Canyon was it was almost 90... The rest of the day was 95 to 104... even on this trip when I left it was only 37 for a good portion of the mountain ride.
I love the desert... I always kind of dream as I drive through it what it must have been like back in the day on a horse going from Cortez Colorado to Flagstaff or even Mexican Hat, or any of the little towns out there...and knowing where the water holes were and just surviving out there.. cool stuff.
