Impeachment, let your Senator Know

I stand alone in all this, but I feel that I am voicing my opinion about a direction that needs to be stopped for future presidents to take. I want it clear, there are checks and balances in our branches of government that are there to block a president from reaching goals of personal gain in any way. I do not want him to go on his own to wage assaults on nation without informing congress unless we are in immediate threat. Folks, we are in a place where small nations have nuclear weapons and War with this type engagement could be something that may not be stopped easily until all is gone. All it would take is a guy like trump with his way of not viewed as loosing or looking weak to get us into something like this. I have seen his threats to other nations. It sounds great to Trump Supporters. "Go get em Trump, we are behind you, anything you want or need let us know".

If not Trump, the future can produce someone that gets into office that may even be worse and has other big ideas. Without a Check and Balance power of our congress, may not be able to stop him once the foothold has been reached. I think this is the test we are under.

I suppose the actual impeachable offence is not the problem. The problem is the impeachable offence was questioned. Now because of questing the offence you must be impeached.

You got to be a fool if you don't think all presidents offer quid pro quos, meaning if you do something for us I'll do something for you. The question is what did he offer and what did he expect to get in return? The Democrats want to turn he asked to investigate Hunter and his father into getting it for political gain. I don't think they proved that.

In the end what we think here does not matter - it will not change one thing in the political world one little bit

Fact is this thread will only serve to divide the people here and to take away from our common bond of Slingshot ownership and interest.

As such I will not be posting in this thread again

I had him on in the Play Room while I was working on the Mods on Sling II. Sounded to me that it was the same story line they have repeating all along. I did manage to get the sway bar and the strut bar completed and torqued down and the front clip bolted back and torqued down.

Also it seems you do not fully understand the process - for all practical purposes the House was holding a trial - Trump has been been impeached - it will always be on his record that the House impeached Him - Now what the Senate is doing is less like a trial and more like sentencing - they dont get to decide if he is impeached or not - they can not undo what the House did - they only get to decide if it rises to the level of him being removed from office - - - just like Clinton even if the Senate decides it is not enough to sentence him to removal from office Trump will still have been impeached

as a side note do you know that of all of the presidents that have been impeached - none have ever been removed from office? - - - if President Trump were to be removed he would be the first in all of our history.

personally I think that would be a very profound step to take for what they are accusing Mr. Trump of doing - - do you think what Trump is accused of rises to the point of making him the first president in the history to ever be removed from office by the Senate??

The House Impeached trump, but they did not convict him. The Impeachment process requires the House to investigate and bring a charge if they determine Impeachment charges are warranted. The Senate then holds an Impeachment Trial under whatever rules they deem appropriate to determine in the President should be convicted on the Impeachment charges and removed from office. Once removed from office, the President may still face a conventional legal trial following established Law, but that is not constitutionally mandated.

I agree. While I don't care much for Trump, I also don't care much for political theater which both sides will be using to try and get their points across. I prefer to search multiple news sources to develop my own picture of what is going on and just ignore the political posturing.

In the same vein, I don't believe in contributing to candidates until after they have been confirmed as their parties candidates for the actual election. Firmly committing to a specific candidate during the primaries risks disappointment if that candidate doesn't get the nomination and I find it wiser to wait to ignore the theatrics of the debates to see who the nominees are, evaluate their policy positions and then decide who I will support with my vote, which to date has always resulted in votes for candidates from different parties.

It appears to me Sam that you want to not follow protocol and jump strait to witnesses.
If the Senate doesn’t find good cause during briefs then they can vote at that time since no witnesses are needed since there is no crime.
If they vote in Trumps favor finding no good cause then he is no longer impeached.

I admit I do not like Trump both as a person and because of his policies. That said, I also do not believe he will be convicted on the Impeachment charges simply because achieving a 2/3 majority (currently 67 votes) is close to impossible since it would require 20 Republicans to vote with the Democrats to remove him from office. I also believe that the Democrat leadership knows this and can only hope/assume that they felt doing their constitutional duty was necessary.

My biggest fear was formally impeaching Trump would mainly serve to motivate his base. I also would have preferred the Impeachment vote had not taken place until after the courts had decided upon the legality of Trump telling anyone who has ever worked for him to not cooperate with the House's investigation. If the Senate should call additional witnesses, I do not believe Trump should be allowed to forbid their testimony since allowing such an act effectively strips the Senate of its ability to fairly determine guilt or innocence, and that Trump should be allowed to limit the areas of questioning to the charges or any new issues raised during the Impeachment trial.

You are so correct. Trump supporters are a phenomenon that has thrown out all norms with media coverage and polls. Example - I have been wearing Trump hats since 2015 ( FunCycle could be the only other one 😂) and I cannot go into a store or restaurant without at the very least 2 or three folks showing support. I have had opportunity to chit chat with many and there is one constant theme. They all say they and many of their friends support Trump silently for fear of being either verbally or physically assaulted by the liberal left. I been all over the US and have had a few looks in NYC but not a word to my face. I know Trump has energized the liberals and are pulling out all the stops to defeat him in November predicting a landslide victory for them over impeachment and subsequent Republican coverup. Could it be that the sleeping giant of middle America is silently enraged by the Democrats socialist agenda waiting patiently to crush them in the voting booth. After the 2016 election where polls indicated there was “no path” for Trump to win the Presidency - I take em all with a grain of salt !! We’ll see what happens as Trump says 😂

I counted the ball caps yesterday and I have 10 different ones so I wear a different one each day.. I had a friend just give me a red "MAKE THEM CRY AGAIN 2020" I order 4 each to give away, I am up to around 80 ball caps now. I have never had a negative comment in over two years.

Sam I say this with all due respect but you squeezed the toothpaste out of the tube here. I cannot believe that you would be so
naive as to not know this always has two sides and to say no matter what we support Trump is very unfair. We are talking about this impeachment process and your views should have been during the house findings, not at the Senate. You now want to take your ball and go home, that is not how adults handle differences.

Do you believe that executive privilege - even though approved by the Supreme Court - that that power of this President and all future Presidents should be rescinded YES or NO

If yes how do you see that having a positive or negative affect on US security??
