I am flying into Intercontinental Airport in North Houston next Wednesday at about 1:30 pm. I'll be picking up a car and hitting the road north by about 3 pm if everything goes according to plan. I'll be heading towards Denver so I'll head up the 45 to Dallas/Fort Worth then up the 35 towards Amarillo. So it looks like I'll be going through Fort Worth at crush hour (rush hour is a misnomer). Any suggestions for alternate routing? I'm thinking Wichita Falls would be my stopping point for the first night. I'll appreciate any advice you good ol' boys and gals can throw my way!

Either Wichita or Amarillo for a stopping point. Sadly, there is not a better route, the others take longer.
Seems like you will be hitting DFW around 6pm and the inbound leg towards downtown shouldn't be bad. You may hit some left over traffic from the rush home people, just watch traffic via a GPS app and you should be fine. Waze works well in that area to miss traffic, Google Maps being a 2nd.
I'm not planning on being in that area on Wed, but if it changes, I'll let you know and we can grab dinner.

I don't know about y'all but I hate that part of my drive when going to Clayton, NM to hunt. If the interstate gets shut down you can be stuck for hours. I have taken 287 at the Waxahachie exit of 45 but it still brings you through Fort Worth.

Sayler's Old Country Kitchen in Portland, OR has been doing the 72 oz steak challenge since 1948. Even when I was a young man and could slam copious amounts of food, I never considered trying this. On a 2,200 mile road trip? Nope! But I love the history.

Oh I do remember you, but the winner of most of the Coney Island Hot Dog eating contests held every 4th of July is a 132 pound guy by the name of Kobayashi. He eats like 70 hot dogs in 10 minutes. There's hope for all you thin guys.
