Post your milage data!

    I've had discussions about milage, and how to track it, is the mpg on the on board computer accurate, etc. Oddly, questions about milage are one of the most frequent things I hear from people when they come up to ask about Ruby.


    I've been tracking for a few hundred miles now, Ruby is well broken in (8K miles), has good tires, proper pressure, regular oil changes, and I just serviced the angle drive.


    The last loop of 102 miles, 45 were across town, stop lights, 45 mph avg. The rest were country driving, winding 2-lane roads where I kept my speed between 55-65.




    As you can see here, the on board computer shows me at 31.4 mpg while Fuelly.com & my calculator show 30.9 mpg. It should be noted that my new rear tire is a 305/35 R20, slightly bigger (+1.6%) than the stock Kenda at 305/30 R20. Among other things, my speedometer is now 1.6% low, when it says 60, I'm doing 62 (or if you prefer, when Ruby says 66, I'm doing 69!) I think this also means I'm traveling farther by 1.6% than the computer thinks I am. That means Fuelly.com is probably 1.6% low, its adjusted milage would be 32.7 mpg.

    In any case, the on board computer is pretty much vindicated in my book!

    Last 9 fill ups on "Trypod" 2017 SL 193?? Miles on it. I dont drive easy or hard, just how it should be driven, the fun way. On the flip side my Jetta diesel regularly gives us 50 mpg, and it carries five people and luggage in air conditioned comfort.

    I always said that it was like pulling a parachute. Anyway needless to say fuel mileage sucks, and I have f250 diesel

    I can pretty much control my mileage from 22 - 29 mpg with my right foot.


    22-23 mpg in town stomping on it like a juvenile delinquent between stops.


    23-25 on country roads with 'spirited driving'.


    27-29 on interstates depending on speed and use of cruise control.


    I have checked the computer regularly and it's usually from .5 to 1 mpg high. It was right once and low once.


    I've never hit 30 mpg but haven't tried to. That kind of driving is for the Prius crowd. I prefer the 22-23.


    Prius driver: I get 47 mpg, what do you get?

    Before forced retirement I drove the same turnpike every day. Same speed, same road, same time. I noticed that temperature played a big factor on mpg. The hotter it was the better mpg I got. This is anywhere from 40 degree to 115 degree. This being calculated at 85 - 90 mph. Maybe some short burst of speed to get out of traffic.

    I have noticed I get better mpg in a lower gear at 2.5 to 3 grand than I do on the highway at 2.5 to 3 grand in 5th gear. Things that make you say hmmmm. I do check my mpg but really do not give a rats ass as long as I get to drive my SS every day. Love this machine, it is the best thing for depression, anxiety, bordem. It will get you our from in front of the TV just to ride. One of the few things that will get me out in the heat and I hate summer. It is hard to leave the deep freeze as my wife calls the house.

    By the time I save up for mods, I have to buy another rear tire :cursing:

Still trying to figure out what 5th is for. Maybe the boosted crowd can use it. I do hit 5th just to lower the engine noise when cruising above 65. Below 65 and the engine lugs down too much.

    Yep I concur on the sling being really good, as far as caring about MPG, the way I see it is a good way to keep an eye on how your engine is running, if all of a sudden you see a change on your MPG you can bet that something is off and you can possible take care of it before it turns into something big.
