Once in a while when I go to pull out from a complete stop I hear this clanking sound coming from the engine. It sounds like those hand clappers (Castanets) used in Flamenco bands. Now mind you I haven't changed the oil within the 5000 mile range. I'm not sure what the mileage is off hand but this would be my 3rd required oil change but I know it's past due. Could this be the problem and if it is why doesn't a regular car do the same since my car is also past due but I don't get that sound from it. TIA

Could be and sounds like engine detonation, Spark knock...are you using a lower octane gas, Or maybe you got a load of poor gas...Try putting Sea foam in the tank and fill up with a known quality gas, 91 or 93 octane.....

I have been using regular gas since i've had it. How do I go from regular gas to anything higher. Can they be mixed?
-
Yes, but if it were me, I'd mix in some cleaner or boost. Your manual says to run 91 or higher octane in your SS.

Regular gas with ethanol is probably your biggest problem. More than likely you are hearing spark knock. I know that there are people on here that believe in running the cheapest shit that they can buy and do not have a clue of how much better their car /truck/motorcycle will run with high octane gas and get better gas mileage. You did not read the owners manual did you.

That right there is your problem, use premium and never buy gas from Mom &pops gas stations that don't sell a lot, old premium gas and regular gas are equally bad.
If you can get ethanol free gas but at the very least get 91 Oct premium from good stations like BP,Shell, Kwip trip, Chevron or whatever your local equivalents are.

Guilty of not reading manuals

Many people don't, but your dealer should have given you a heads up if you bought it new.

Where can I purchase something good and or do you recommend something

Try running High test 91 or 93 in everything you have for a while, it just might surprise you. Oh! and check the gas mileage after a couple of tanks

put a can of seafoam fill the tank with GOOD gas, go to your favorite back roads and give it several good pulls(high revs) to clean any junk and call it a day, that should solve your problem unless you have an underlying condition that is being magnified by the bad gas.
-
frehleycomet I have also been using the Lucas gas treatment for years just to keep the injectors clean and have never had a problem. I have also herd a lot about the Sea Foam but have never used it.

So how low on the gas in the tank should I go before adding the Seafoam and mixing different gas
-
I'd do it right way if it was me, then top off the tank with good gas. If it's mostly a full tank, grab a 2nd can of the sea foam and do it on the next tank too.

I was debating about bringing this up so here it is....

and I never run anything less than name brand 93 octane in any of my vehicles...
Pre ignition....
And we do have a knock sensor...
One more thing....I never run any gas tank below 1/4. Usually 1/2 especially in the winter...I know I’m not having any issues with what’s already in the tank so I like to mix the fresh gas with the old....that way if the fresh stuff turns out to be a problem at least I diluted it with known good stuff.

I would trust anything said in that forum as much as i would trust something said on Jerry Springer or SNL...actually JS or SNL have higher credibility in my book.
BobTheOilGuy is just a jackass that used to go around every forum and start an oil thread to "prove" amsoil was the best and get people to buy from him directly at ridiculous prices after shipping and HANDLING (big upcharge).
BTOG is the only vendor to ever get banned from the kawininja forums which says a lot since that place was(is?) worse than TDS when it comes to censorship of negative vendor comments/feedback from users. -
I just typed in ecotek le9 issues and this is what came up.....but it does appear there have been motor issues in the past....is there still an issue?

Fill the tank with high test and add the gas treatment for at least 2 tanks. From then on every time you change the oil add a bottle of gas treatment to a full tank of gas
